Our moderator brings up politics more than everyone else combined on this board. I ask if radio hosts have an obligation to neutrality when interviewing politicians, and cite an example from one of the largest broadcasting companies in the country and the topic is closed?

I look forward to our moderator posting the next anti-CBC National Post editorial any day now. But he hates to get political.

I think this is a rare instance where this is worthy of discussion. If Justin Trudeau said “Let’s bring it home.” to a CBC host someone would have brought it up here.

Isn't it depressing when we're surprised and impressed when two of the richest companies in the country combine to offer something slightly better than the cheapest, lowest quality content for its radio audience?

I don’t know if anyone here listens to Know You Know With Rob Snow. It’s an Ottawa based talk show produced at the studios of City News 101.1/1310 News even though the station no longer exists. It airs on Rogers’ news stations in Halifax, Kitchener, Calgary, and Vancouver. It offers interviews with newsmakers, and regularly features right leaning pundits, professors and conservative only panels. Pierre Poilievre, who gives very few one on one interviews, has been a guest three times in the last several weeks.  At the end of a favourable interview last week Rob Snow thanked him for his time and Poilievre responded with, “Great to Be With you Rob.  Let's bring it home.” My question is, is that fair or foul?  Should a host be expected to be neutral on a program that airs on stations that brand themselves as news stations or is it okay for a host to bring an election win home?

You can hear it here from the 27 second mark until 12 mintues and 30 seconds

SOWNY » The Best Produced Radio Station In The GTA » April 12, 2024 11:37 am

Well, I agree with you that they do sound very good, those top of the hour intros are easier to put together than it sounds. You produce the intro and extro, but then the hooks are often provided by a service or you can create them yourself, but then they are simply scheduled the same way you would schedule a song and the automation system puts it all together. There isn’t a person producing 24 of those for every day.

SOWNY » iHeart's Newest Format: Radio For Pets » April 11, 2024 9:05 pm

It’s not a radio station at all, it’s a playlist like the playlists on Spotify. IHeart has hundreds or thousands of them for every occasion and mood.
If it stopped, it was probably your device or internet connection.

I turned on WGR and was stunned that they weren't talking about this. Instead, they were going on about some injury to a player. You'd think this was a no-brainer for a topic.

WBEN-AM was going with it non-stop, which makes sense, taking calls from listeners and reliving his legendary football career - and what came after.

But for the local all sports station in Buffalo to be absent on this story seems incredible to me. Then again, it wasn't on the Fan 590, either, which is also surprising. They were talking about the Raptors instead. All this while the two main talk stations - CFRB and AM640 were going wall-to-wall with Simpson's death and his history.

So the talk stations were on it and the sports stations weren't. I find that odd.

He retired 45 years ago. To everyone in the demo of sports radio stations he isn’t remembered as a football player.

There are rumours of tension between Muir and George Stephanopoulos over who is the top anchor when news breaks, especially in the early afternoon.

I also find ABC’s newscast a little too dark to be visually appealing.

It’s usually 8 or 9 plus weather or traffic. You usually get 39 or 40 minutes of show per hour, not counting the news.

“Bell Media in Kitchener gave out hundreds of free solar eclipse glasses outside of their new offices and studios earlier today.”

“CTV London also had 500 pair of eclipse glasses to giveaway and ran out after about 30 minutes but the lineups continued for hours.”

So there’s your answer. No, it’s not being overplayed. There’s tremendous interest in it, it’s one of there’s rare events that will be witnessed by millions that we know about beforehand and it’s a feel good story.

I'm not dragging any names into this, but I do know for an absolute fact that a while back, someone turned down mornings on Zee 103five because "They don't pay very good..."

So, long story short, this is a company that wants to brag about the importance of people, but not have to pay them what they might actually be worth.
"One voice, one choice"

Just because one person didn’t like a salary offer doesn’t mean they don’t pay people what they’re worth. Maybe that person demanded something that all of us would think is unreasonable. Negotiations don’t work out sometimes. That happens in every industry every day.
I have no idea what they’re like to work for but I need a bigger sample size than one person.

John Tesh on country stations. I don’t think I have seen that before.
Apparently he’s a ratings winner because more than one programmer has told me so but Here’s why you shouldn’t use social media, Here’s why your travel mug is dangerous, Here’s why you shouldn’t eat lunch out, Here’s why you shouldn’t bring a lunch to work, Here’s why email is bad, Here’s why your kids shouldn’t have a phone, Here’s what you shouldn’t say in a job interview, Here’s why sunscreen is killing you, gets really tedious.

It's no surprise that New York and Los Angeles are still kings of the radio castle down south, remaining the #s 1 & 2 markets in North America. Chicago, as always, is runner-up at #3.

Buffalo, which once occupied a much higher perch, is still in 59th place. For those in Windsor, Detroit ranks at a respectable #14.

But did you ever wonder which place below the border is the lowest of the low in terms of ratings market? It's Grand Forks, North Dakota, which ranks 572 out of 572. Imagine competing for that audience.

The list isn't for everyone and only involves the U.S., but I found it fascinating nonetheless. If you feel the same way, take a peek at it here.

The Grand Forks market will be familiar to Winnipeg audiences. That’s where people go if they want to shop in the US and that’s where their US TV affiliates come from on cable.

It’s also much cheaper to run than ESPN Radio, which TSN uses.
Rumours persist that one of both will eventually close or only run a couple of shows per day and live games rather than a 24 hour format.

I haven’t seen any such rumours about Fox Sports Radio.

I don’t buy it. It’s simply damage control from a company that is slowly waking up to the fact that customer perception is important too, not just shareholder satisfaction.

Having everyone hate your company isn’t a great business strategy even in an oligopoly.

So people seem to think they can use their Facebook pages as long as they aren’t connected to iHeart websites.

Remember the carbon tax was originally a conservative idea to avoid doing more tangible things. Because conservatives don’t really have ideals anymore other than opposing anything a liberal likes, it’s now the worst idea in human history.

This study says it works.

The Junos need to stop giving away the major awards before the TV broadcast.
Rock Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, Breakthrough Group of the Year and Songwriter of the Year were presented at an industry function on an earlier night.
At the Grammys those winners would have been Paramore, Miley Cyrus, SZA and Phoebe Bridgers, and Billie Eilish.
Those are big names that wouldn’t have been on TV.

You’re hearing is more than likely heavy compression. When there’s no announcer talking the area noise fills the space. Nothing is being added. Some channels have it and some don’t.
It may also be your TV.
I think it’s extremely unlikely the NHL or its  rights holders are adding fake crowd noise.
