Is Global Experimenting With Simsub On Sundays?

It was interesting that this past Sunday, Global again ran 60 Minutes at 7pm rather than putting in some filler to match up with CBS who ran overtime with NCAA basketball.  So no simsub for 60 Minutes which started later on CBS.  Did they drop the simsub for The Equalizer and CSI Vegas as well?  I don't watch these shows but it looked like Global stayed with their regular schedule on Sunday.

Is Global comparing the impact of Sunday programming not simulcast and sticking with their schedule?  Could be that 60 Minutes does better for them when it runs as scheduled at 7pm rather than whenever the sports event finishes on CBS.

Re: Is Global Experimenting With Simsub On Sundays?

I can't 100% answer that question but there are two things to remember here:

-Sunday night is one of the highest HUTs (Homes Using Television) nights of the week, so delaying programming is a tune out.

-Who is going to watch the 37th rerun of "Border Security" filler when there are so many other choices? (And worse yet, they often cut it off in the middle of a show to get to the CBS stuff, so in case you were enjoying it, well, too bad.)

I was taping a show off CBS on Sunday night, and their primetime dramas after 60 Minutes started at 8:42 PM. That means 60 Minutes was on the Eye Network 42 minutes late and all the shows that followed were equally delayed. How would you keep Canadian viewers tuned that long? Simsub can't possibly be worth the risk of losing all those eyeballs.  And besides Global gets first exposure for the hit shows, so why not take advantage of it?

And almost none of the viewers understand what has happened. They just think that something is wrong on Global and go elsewhere.
Most of my friends would just DVR the Pacific Time channel and watch it the next day.

THIS.
Which is a problem because now those same viewers will also fast forward through all the ads.

Guilty as charged. You can also add Chicago Wednesday and L&O Thursday.

Re: Is Global Experimenting With Simsub On Sundays?

Looks like on last Sunday because of the sports over run on CBS, Global opted for no simsub for any programming in the evening.  And last night City TV only had one half hour of simsub at 11:30 with Jimmy Kimmel and one hour with Family Feud at 7pm.  They had an all original programming night from 8-11pm with Canada's Got Talent and two episodes of Hudson and Rex.

Tonight is a different story on City however with simsub from 7 to 11pm, and back with Kimmel at 11:30.
.
It should be noted as well that City TV has been running Law & Order at 7pm on Thursday which cancels simulcasting with NBC at 8pm.  Instead Law & Order Toronto Criminal Intent runs at 8pm.  No word how the homegrown show has been doing other than the debut with over 1.1 million live viewers.

It would be interesting to know how the original Law & Order has been doing with the earlier time on City.

Re: Is Global Experimenting With Simsub On Sundays?

Less and less simsub everywhere.  Tonight Global will only be simulcasting 60 Minutes at 7pm and nothing else.  No OTA in Canada has picked up the CMT Music Awards on CBS at 8pm.

CTV and  CTV1 have no simsub this evening.  CBC naturally has nothing.  City TV will simsub American Idol 8-10.

CHCH which normally doesn't have much does have America's Funniest Videos at 7 and FOX's Animimation Domination from 8-10pm.

Nothing from NBC's prime time plays on any OTA network in Canada this evening.

They went with their own Big Brother Canada instead of American sim sub content. Good for them!!
