Not sure what is causing this...it could be that baseball pales in comparison to the effects of the pandemic, or that Tampa is not a big draw as far as viewers go. I mean heck, they have a hard time getting 15,000 fans out to their home games. There were more cardboard cut out fans than they actually have real fans this season!

Or it could that it is election season in the U.S. (although personally, I am bored of that narrative)...

But according to the Calgary Sun, the ratings have been pretty dismal.

Here is what the article said, RATINGS WORST-EVER FOR 2020 WORLD SERIES

"
The Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Dodgers are bringin’ it.But they’re not bringin’ eyeballs to the ballpark.Ratings from the first two games of the 2020 World Series between the two finalists on Fox brought in the lowest ratings in Fall Classic history. And it could get even worse if the trend of Games 1 and 2 continue through the weekend.Game 3 went Friday night.Games 4 and 5 follow Saturday and Sunday evenings. It’s hoped those heart-of-the-series contests don’t return the ugly ratings of Tuesday and Wednesday, when the battles between the Dodgers and the Rays brought in only 9.195 and 8.950 million viewers, respectively. (Share-wise, that’s a 5.1 and 5.0 rating). They are the two worst scores for any World Series ratings — since at least 1968, when Nielsen first started tracking them."

What is your take big yella?

Have you watched the World Series? Tonight could be the last game of this season too!

If you've watched have you enjoyed it?

Covid-19 took a lot of people away from playoff sports in-general. NBA took a major hit. These sports also got political. That is a no-no.

Baseball has been trying to cater to adults by playing primetime

Allow the station the freedom to change. The more restrictions levied on a station the less likely they will succeed. Success is the goal. Yes, some of you want the station to adhere to the CRTC rules and regulations. Isn't it right to hope a station is strong? You can say the station can succeed with the current rules. Well, you can succeed at a diet but that won't stop you from having your favourite meal that's not good for you.

Rogers and Bell should not be the only companies allowed to push through format changes to their major market stations. Let Bayshore have their change and hope for the very best.

It's called media bias. It is real and it is everywhere. Sports, News, Weather. Controlling the narrative. That is how Bryant Gumbel stays employed. This coverage, or lack thereof, should have been expected.

It's not about the amount of goals. It's about the lack of humility displayed by some of the US players approaching 13 goals. This is not about gender; how many times did we watch Canada World Juniors barely react to goals scored once a game was out of reach? How about the humility shown by the Canadian Women's hockey teams? The celebrations beyond the double digit goal mark was the problem, and some members of the US Women's Soccer team lack insight.

Agreed. Is it also necessary to over-call every homerun or average defensive play early in meaningless games? Both he and his partner have treated us to October excitement. They should analyze the great Tom Cheek's play by play from his heyday and take a cue from a Hall of Fame broadcaster. The overexcitement and overdramatics makes me wonder what they have left for meaningful baseball.

Such as using a Football game to push a personal political agenda? To divert the attention of fans to something you hold near and dear? Is that what was taken away? Considering NBC would stand with Costas' leanings I'm sure they had to pull it back due to negative feedback from fans.

And the concussions....well, I guess Costas won't be helping with hockey broadcasts in the near future. Better yet, how about use your skills to talk about alternative careers a young athlete can have over football. Afterall, these student-athletes are enjoying a free education (most likely) over 4 years at a very prominent American institution. They have the ability to enjoy an excellent career outside of Football rather than live with catastrophic injuries. My guess is Costas would not do that.

Maybe he can push for no Wild Card team and ban the Designated Hitter on the MLB Network while he lives the good life in New York City.

BTW, while all newspapers are suffering from declining circulation, the Toronto Star's circulation remains the highest in Canada and greater than the Sun and Post's circulation combined.

...Ah yes, the double standard argument. Reserved for those unable or unwilling to do the right thing. Funny, that double standard seems to be overlooked in Virginia. Spare me your whaling about criticism. Spend a week telling friends and strangers that you are a Conservative and Pro-Trump. Well, to make matters even worse, many journalists have Unifor as their union. That entity has already publicly stated they intend to defeat Andrew Scheer and the Conservatives at all costs in the next election and union leadership suggests their members support the Liberals.

So even if you believe they'll bend over backwards to provide fair coverage, how can you trust said reporters to look unbiased when the labour organization they pay dues to is openly backing one side?

I'm not shilling for the Tories or the Liberals. I just want coverge I can trust. If these handouts start, I'm not sure where I'll find it. Even in the most evenhanded reporting, there will always be that suspicion.

I know a lot of places are struggling, but selling even the perception of their journalistic independence is too high a price.

Bingo. This should be front and centre of every media outlet, and every media entity should be giving a firm NO to a payout. This issue has barely made a dent in news media. That is by design, as they are on the take and will push a Trudeau government down the throats of those who paid for it.

Congratulations on Prime Minister Trudeau being re-elected in 2019.

The payout should be called a payoff. The press will treat the man and the party that feeds them very well. This should make you nervous RadioActive. This feels wrong and this looks unethical. It's also an embarrassment for any media corporation to take a single penny from taxpayers. Not only money not well spent but this is total corruption at the highest level. Why? Because this entire situation could be used as proof that fake news is real, and members of the media will attempt to defend themselves while taking a handout.

Milton was 100% right.

However, some of you won't see the bias in the upcoming 2019 election. You'll cling to your John Moore'esque schoolboy ignorance and believe the men and women left in the media industry can play the entire election campaign down the middle. Very hard to bite the hand that feeds you.

Nobody cares about anyone on that show except for John Goodman who does not need the show to boost his career.

Ever since I checked in here, we had Samantha Bee keep her job for calling someone a word that all females seem to despise - oh, except if it's the daughter of the President who happens to be a Republican in this particular decade.

Someone called Trump an orange orangutan...I guess that's perfectly fine. What Roseanne said? Oh no, we can't have that.

My point would stand regardless of gender. If the victim genuinely fear for their life, there are police and/or legal options available. Self-defense is a different beast in Canada vs the States.

...and that choice of yours is how women have been murdered by their stalkers. Congrats. Tom's statement wasn't controversial when a woman is defending themselves against men, or women, who want to abuse their power and control over another person.

You have a valid point Peter. My thoughts are, In the early stages of the incident it was so similar to previous terrorist attacks it merited some TV coverage.  Fortunately it wasn't terror related and we've yet to learn the motivation.  CBC and CTV could have broken into regular programming and referred viewers to their News Channel.  Global would have to stay longer with no alternative to offer. Hypothetically, if it was terror related and other attacks were a possibility they would not have served the public at all.

One man in a van terrorized innocent people on a sidewalk by driving into them. Just because you do not define the man a terrorist does not mean terror did not take place.
