For those not familiar with the Heavy Metal culture.  Ronnie James Dio brought the Sicilian hand gesture for the Devil into the genre, long before it became a symbol of gangbangers. Watch most any concert footage from his time fronting his band Dio, or with Black Sabbath.

I've received a threat warning from my AVG anti virus program when I tried to access any of the channels on 123tvnow.com or click on the "Show more" button. I was also asked to complete a 15-20 question survey before getting access to the page where you can choose the channels you want watch. Has this been an issue for anyone else, or am I one of the chosen few for this treatment?

SOWNY » John Moore "major announcement coming Wed. morning"/New "Rush" Hosts » April 8, 2022 8:54 am

John Moore mention he had hosted the afternoon drive show for a few years. Then John Tory hosted the show when John Moore moved to do the morning show, until John Tory left to run for mayor in 2014. Seems there are no hosts from the Rush worthy of mention after John Tory  hosted the show. Personal choice by John Moore, or a directive from the top brass at Bell Media?

SOWNY » TV End Credits: Why Bother If This Is What They Do? » March 30, 2022 5:40 pm

Thanks for another option for tv channels RA.I'll give a look today. One of the "things that make me go hmmm.I've noticed over the years reading credits,I'll see the same last name over the decades in a certain field, but the first names change. My thinking is the children and grandchildren or other family members get into the same field as their elders. It seems like the name Sonntag (not sure if I have the spelling just right) somewhere in the listings for sound editing/ production. For decades I thought that half the people who did the makeup for countless tv and movie productions was Westmore. The name that stands out is Micheal Westmore in Star Trek NG.

SOWNY » TV End Credits: Why Bother If This Is What They Do? » March 30, 2022 11:18 am

I've noticed this is becoming common on many channels in the last few years. Many of the U.S channels I've viewed through ustvgo.tv do this on a regular basis. Any of the channels under the Discovery Channel group, it's routine business to squeeze the credits into a corner of the screen in the last minute or two of a program, then go straight into the next program.Often, a good portion of the ads will be promoting other shows in the Discovery group of channels. It seems as if they have about a dozen channels. I've always enjoy reading the credits at the end of movies or tv shows. Likely due to fact when  my parents took me to see a movie when I was a child, they usually stayed through the credits after seeing a movie at the theater. Mom like to look for the names of the bit players, and who wrote/supervised the music. Dad was happy to stick around after the movie, as he wouldn't have to deal with the crowd exiting the theater or traffic driving home. I've always found it interesting to see the names of all involved in the show. Sometimes they're unusual or quite unique.Often I'll recognize someone who has a small part in a show years before they become famous and can't put the face to a name.                          NASCAR will split the screen during the race to run an ad or two when the race is going on. This is on top of the time allotted for regularly scheduled commercial breaks. In the last week or so I've been unable to access any of the channels on ustvgo.tv. I don't have a VPN, so I'm guessing they've red flagged my IP address as too frequent a user, and not jumping on any of there special offers to buy one of their packages.

SOWNY » One Time CFTR Announcer Back On Air - In Owen Sound » March 29, 2022 2:58 pm

Came across Doug Avery's new show while searching for some weekend programs that aren't  paid programs. I found it pleasant surprise. Music a bit more on the heavy side. (What ever became of the band Oliver Heavyside? A question for another time, or thread) Music from performers I know and like, plus songs from those performers I'm not familiar with, and find I'm enjoying as well. Tunes I don't recognize from bands I'm not so fond of ( like Green Day) but it was a decent song. Music from local bands that I've enjoyed listening to. And those familiar bits from the era when a few laughs were part of the show, such as The Swami, and more.I hope he gets noticed by other stations and gets the picked up by some of them.

I have watched very few Awards shows of any sort over the years. The ones I may have viewed all, or portions of, were when visiting someones home where they had the program on. So much sizzle, yet so little steak. I'll wait till the winners are listed in the mainstream media in the days following the event. Would the producers of these show be able to pass on those over the top swag bags. Hand those scheduled to receive one a glitzy designer bag. A slip of paper that says "This gift that is valued at ( however many 10 s of thousands ) has been donated to, a food bank, childrens hospital, or another legitimate charity.

John Moore mentioned he will be taking some time off before they aren't allowed to once the spring ratings are under way. Mr.Agar will be doing the morning show. I didn't hear exactly how long John will be off,or who will be doing the 9 to noon slot. Will Jerry be doing a double shift, or will it be someone that is in line with Jerry's take on the world? We'll see who it will (or won't) be tomorrow.

Ted's replacement for the morning show didn't get the numbers/enthusiasm that the brass at the station had hoped. I went looking for another station for a morning show once Bill Caroll took over on CFRB. Once John Moore sat in the chair as morning  show host, I returned to CFRB  for the morning show and have continued  to listen in. He does an excellent job, and I hope he stays for many more years.

And to tune in to The Rush this afternoon for the full story on what is to come for Jay. He also gave Glen Crouter's ski report on the weekend mornings a plug.. No mention of what time the ski reports will air, or any reference to a weekend morning show.

SOWNY » CP24 Newtalk 1010 Weekend Mornings » January 23, 2022 12:06 pm

I'll agree with you JB866. I enjoyed listening to the weekend morning show when Dave Trafford was doing it  on CFRB, Most mornings I would leave my radio on 1010 am for a few hours after the morning show was over. On Saturday, stay to hear the home improvement show, the vet that hosts the Animal House program. On Sunday, often listen to the trivia show, (if the trivia topics were in any way down my alley), I would eventually change over to music by the noon hour. With no interest in hearing rerolls of The best of John Moore's shows from the previous week, (most of which I've already heard) or the CP24 audio only, I've forgotten to tune in when the other shows I enjoyed listening to are on. Now, I'm putting on a music station, or one of the great oldies station online, many which I've been made aware of from the members here.I expect I'm just one of many who spent a dozen or so hours tuned in one the weekend that won't be back until Monday. Maybe they will be back, maybe not. Moore in the Morning is about the only time I'm listening to CFRB, unless I hear a promo for something that sounds interesting on one of the other weekday shows, which isn't very often. Provided I remember to tune in for what sounded like it might worth giving a bit of my time to.

This is the result of budget cuts I'm thinking. How cheaply can things be produced, who will take the job at minimum wage.If they can do the job 'adequately', rather exceptionally well. Are they relying on third party/sub-contractors for the maintenance of their equipment ? 680 seems  to have more technical glitches than most other radio stations,to my ears at least. Usually 680 News is where I go for what's happening  in the here and now for news and weather.  The less reliable they become, the fewer people will tune in. I'll be one of those people.CityNews twitter posting at 7:20 am says their signal hs been restored. After an hour or so of being off the, most folks have likely gone elsewhere for the latest updates for news and weather.Another case  of who is watching the store at Instant Ontario Weather. One post says weather warning has ended. A minute before  that post, it says weather warning has been issued.

I enjoyed hearing your do your thing over the decades on the radio John D.. Whether it was on a music station or all the years on the weekend morning show on CFRB. Friends wondered why I didn't sleep in on the weekends. I didn't want to miss any of the interesting tidbits on your weekend morning show on CFRB. I did have the pleasure of meeting you briefly on one occasion. If I remember correctly, you were the M.C. for a retrospective show with Gregory Peck at Roy Thompson Hall in the mid 90 s (?). My Mom was very much wanting to attend the event. Dad wasn't so big on going, so I escorted Mom to the show. Once the show was over, we found out that the lady sitting beside Mom, they were chatting off and on throughout the show, the lady was quite knowledgeable about Gregory Peck, turned out to be his wife. I told Mom during the show, my guess was she was the president of his fan club. Too young to be his wife.I had a 4 egg omelet  on my face once we found out she was his wife. Mom was thrilled to be able to spend a few minutes to chat with Gregory Peck, one of her favourite movie stars from the golden era of movies. And I at least got to say hello to one of my favourite radio personalities. That's my story, now, over to you John D.

This afternoon at 2 pm on Zoomer 740am, Vintage Favourites will have a special on Domenic Troiano. His son Frank, and the co-authour of the book about him and Robbie Lane are guests on the show. Couldn't find much in the way of details on the Zoomer website, but they have run promos for the last week or so plugging the show..He was a big player in the Toronto Sound of the 60 s. Many aspiring guitarists admired and respected him, along with Mike McKenna and Robbie Robertson, wanting to be able to play guitar at the level they did. Does anyone here have any stories they would care share with us on SOWNY? I'll take a guess that John D. may have sat down with Domenic a time or two to share a pint or .....a few stories with him. A friend  who lived in Downsview, not far from the music store Domenic  worked in at one point (can't remember the name of the shop), went there on a regular basis for his own guitar needs told me how helpful  and kind Domenic was to that teenager who wanted to be as good as Domenic was.I'll put a link to his website for those not familiar with him. https://www.troianomusic.com/

Classical 96.3 FM was my go to station  during the Christmas music season. Christmas themed classical music is much easier to listen to. I greatly prefer that type of Christmas music, rather than much of the drek that record companies insisted the performers put out every year that made it onto the pop charts over the years.
