CFRB Loses Another News Anchor

But this one will presumably be back. Morning news anchor Ashley Legassic made her final appearance on the station Friday, leaving for a one-year maternity leave with her baby due shortly. She's expected to be back in 2023.

John Moore spent much of her final show wishing her well and sending her off in style, with a nice on-air staff get together to bid her good luck.

It comes at a time when cutbacks have left the once legendary newsroom almost empty. There's no word yet on who will replace her on the morning show, and Legassic did not reveal the name, only that "she" would start on Tuesday, after shadowing her for the past few weeks. (Victoria Matiash subs on Monday. Did you know the latter is also a writer for ESPN?) Legassic insists her replacement will leave the place "in good hands."

Return of Tiffany Hendsbee, perhaps?

Re: CFRB Loses Another News Anchor

Victoria is doing the newcasts on CFRB this morning. Haven't heard any mention of her being the interim person to do the newscast until Ashley returns from maternity leave or just for the short term.

Re: CFRB Loses Another News Anchor

They said last week there would be a new voice starting Tuesday. No idea what happened, but perhaps whoever it was wasn't quite ready.

Re: CFRB Loses Another News Anchor

Looks like the replacement morning anchor is Jaskiran Kooner (LinkedIn, Twitter). Based on that LinkedIn profile she most recently anchored 680 News for Rogers starting in November 2020.

Re: CFRB Loses Another News Anchor

Another interesting point - it appears what's left of the CFRB newsroom isn't even in the CFRB newsroom.

Most, if not all, of their top of the hour casts are being done out of the CFTO studios. I recently heard one of their radio-only morning anchors talk about what the weather was like "here in Agincourt," and of course, the CTV Toronto newsreaders take up the slack most of the day and they're based out of there, as well.

Ex-RB veteran Dave Agar didn't really have to ask that his name be removed from the newsroom after he was outraged by the huge culling in Feb. 2021. It seems there was no longer a newsroom left to name.

For the record, Jerry Agar confirmed on Friday that she had a boy, named Joseph. Congrats to the family, and enjoy the mat leave. It will go by fast!

Re: CFRB Loses Another News Anchor

They mentioned a couple times this morning on 1010 that news anchor Ashley Legassic returns from her maternity leave this coming Monday, February 27th and that Jaskiran Kooner - who had been doing morning news duties for the last year - will be winding down her participation on the Moore in the Morning show as of today, but will be doing some fill-in work in afternoon newscast reading on the station starting next week.
