Frankish was on AM640's Saturday show as a guest and revealed a few interesting facts about how this came to be.

When Greg Brady told management he'd be leaving to run for office, they called Frankish. He was on a beach in Mexico at the time. Imagine having to give an answer and a commitment like that when you're thousands of kilometres away. But we now know he said yes. Or "si" if you prefer Spanish.

The other revelation is how early he has to get up to be in downtown Toronto in time for all the pre-show prep. He leaves around 2:30 AM to make it in time. I believe Kevin lives in Barrie, so it makes for an extra long commute and I don't envy him that journey if the weather is terrible. (I wonder if he has any remote equipment in his house like many hosts do, in case he simply can't get there.)

He maintains he's used to the hours even though he hasn't done it in a while and it came back to him after more than two decades of early rising for BT.

Now the question is: does he get to keep the gig? If Brady wins, you have to surmise it's his for the next four years. If not, will he still be there in May? Oddly enough, Toronto voters may decide his fate as well as Brady's.

Years ago, when still with BT, Frankish talked about buying a downtown condo for his daughter when she was going to one of the University's in TO. He kept it after the daughter graduated, and I think he moved in to it when he separated from his wife at the time. In a post somewhere, he mentions that he has a new partner now, so perhaps he has moved back to the Barrie area.

Over on 1010, I'm not sure where Jerry Agar is, but he congratulated himself on bringing his remote equipment with him when he left for a Family Day outing. He's on mic at least but clearly couldn't get back to Toronto either.

Two hosts in the same timeslot on competing stations, both caught out of town by circumstances beyond their control.

That doesn't happen here often.

Jerry just admitted he's in Winnipeg. Could not get back to Toronto, either.

Not too excited about this one for some reason, and I’m a hockey fan, just hope we’re done with the booing of national anthems.

At the PWHL game in Toronto last night, the US anthem was met with complete silence. IMO, a far better way to handle it.

If the US can no longer support two national satellite TV services, I wonder how long until either Bell Satellite TV or Shaw Direct goes away.

Both, soon.

Bell and Rogers are both pushing their satellite customers to switch to fibre, hard. Only rural/remote customers who have no choice will be left, soon.

I'm not rural. Lived in downtown Mississauga for over 40 years. Yet my pocket of the city has access only to Bell Satellite. No Bell Fibe for us! So, it really only leaves us with the red option for TV.

Per Sportico, Bell has a 20 year broadcast deal. "In addition, Bell Media reached a long-term agreement with Rogers for broadcast rights for the Maple Leafs and Raptors on TSN for the next 20 years. Bell will also remain the official telecom sponsor of the Raptors, along with sponsorships of the Argonauts and Toronto FC."

True. However, the Panthers did at least make it to the 1996 Final before being swept by the Colorado Avalanche and only in their third year of existance. In other news, the Leafs are ready to start their 58th rebuilding program.

The Panthers lost to Vegas last year, too

At 29 for a guy with a wonky pitching arm, that's too big a risk.
Were the Jays just used to bid up the price?
