Time is up....pull the plug and get rid of the CRTC. In todays time " what is playing on radio " is the least important thing in the lives of listeners.
SOWNY » CFTO's Weatherperson Jessica Smith Should Take "Steps" To Stop This » January 2, 2025 11:39 am |
Have lived in Woodstock for almost 20 years and have never heard Julie mention the city in a weather forecast. As a matter of fact have complained that their maps do not even include Woodstock despite the fact that Woodstock is the second or third largest city in the immediate area of London. It also happens at Kitchener CTV. Not a big deal to have someone in graphics create a new map......if anyone still works there! London (CFPL-TV) was one of the best news organizations but has continued all the way to the bottom......but thats another story for another day.

Found this notice in my last Bell Bill....A laCarte Tv item is going up by $3.50 per month January 1st. What are we getting extra....nothing I think! Though the price was increased this year or last.
SOWNY » What Happened In Cdn. Radio When "War Of The Worlds" Aired In U.S.? » October 30, 2024 3:50 pm |
For those individuals who attended the RTA course at Ryerson during the late 50s and early 60s can remember Wally Ford. I rember one conversation with Mr. Ford when the War of the Worlds came up.....he said he had something to do with the original broadcast. Wally is remembered primarly for his invovement with FDR's campaign for President. A photo exits somewhere showing FDR speaking from a platform at the rear of a train and Wally is in it also. A little bit of history that maybe a few of us "realy oldtimers" can share with others. As one ages the memory cells have to be awakined to keep up.

Brings back a lot of memories...as a teen-ager in the fifties my first hobby was building transister radios. They all worked well considering how far away actual radio stations were from my home north of Kingston. A part of my life that I had completely forgotten or it just old age!
SOWNY » Was This The Worst Part Of Being On Air At A Small Town Radio Station? » July 21, 2024 11:10 am |
This brings back a few memories from my early days in radio at CJET Smiths Falls. Read the notices in the late fifties and early sixties, when available each day. In my mind it was just another part of the job. When I look at other postings, it reminds me that I may be one of the older posters. Left broadcasting in 1971 after times at CJET, CFCO and CHOW....memories that still remain in old age.
SOWNY » The future of local over the air TV » April 14, 2024 11:06 am |
As long as Canadians produce shows (as now seen) OTA will disappear. The land where towers now stand may turn out to be better suited for housing!!
SOWNY » What TV Shows Did You Like as a Kid? » April 14, 2024 11:00 am |
Used to enjoy watching the test pattern for CBC Ottawa when visiting my grandmother in the capital city. Could hardly wait until real programs started in both French and English on the same channel. Eventually our home north of Kingston could receive Watertown, New York and then CKWS TV . Time frame was in the middle 1950's. Boy am I old!!
SOWNY » More Nonsense with Sports Channels!! » March 9, 2024 4:56 pm |
Watching the Curling and switching back in forth with the Blue Jays Game. The sound levels between the channels is ridiculous...one too high (Sportsnet) and one to low (TSN) Have mentioned this before but nothing has changed.....using Bell Satellite. Incidentally all equipment is working fine. My new complaint is...who is minding the store...brief pause in the ball game and half a dozen commercials are shown...back to the ballgame two runs have scored...happened again with the ending of the inning. The American commentators are not that good...not sure if they know where Toronto is. Life goes on but it is irritating and getting worse.

Its about time. The bloated bureaucracy of the CBC should be cut considerably. The discussion continues regarding Radio on this forum. It is time that many should realize that it is dead. Sorry for the few left working and the many soon to be without jobs.
SOWNY » Would Having No Format Make For A Successful Radio Station? » December 3, 2023 12:07 pm |
Back in the old days (1960 etc) most radio stations had no format. We had 2 hours a day for hit parade.....hour or so for country...mixture of everything for the AM show.....BBC discs in the evening and mellow sounds around midnight. As the old saying goes..."everything old is new again."
SOWNY » Back In The Day When Colour TV Was Still New » September 29, 2023 2:15 pm |
Think I posted this info many years ago. We were married in 1963 and bought a brand new television during the first six months (black and white) Found out that Channel 7 in Watertown was going to start with colour programs that fall. Headed out and bought a 26" round screen RCA colour tv. It was installed and a new antenna put up at our rental apartment. Invited a number of people from the radio station to watch the first colour show on CBS at 8 o'clock. It came on but in gorgeous black and white. I had forgotten to turn up the colour button. We were lucky to see one colour show each day. Incidently it was the second colour television sold in Smiths Falls..the first went to the owner of the coke bottler. At the time I was working at CJET Radio. A long time ago and the attraction of all the bells and whistles on a television remains to this day. The colour tv in a metal cabinet cost.$619.

Have to go back a long time for our first colour television...purchased in 1963. It was a round screen RCA with a metal cabinet costing $600. Lasted many years and replaced by a 24 RCA cabinet Tv in 1971. First VCR was a Sony Betamax costing $1600 around 1973. All followed by VHS player, 60 inch television, disc players and just about every new piece of equipment you can imagine. Today several computers, Amazon Echo units, 65 inch Sharp television, and drawers of various wires, adapters, etc.. Enough money spent on electronics that would provide a decent pension!!

Sorry but getting sick of the so called "woke" generation. A few people want to run (ruin) the world and are given more chances than any other organization without a lot of merit. Just change the channel.

SOWNY » Don Daynard 1934 - 2023 » April 24, 2023 11:27 am |
Sorry to hear about Don. Most of the remembrances mentioned are in Toronto. In my case Don and I worked together at CJET radio in Smiths Falls in the early sixties. If memory serves me it was his second broadcasting job in Ontario after his return from California. Many fond memories were made during that period and we continued on our separate ways....Don stayed in broadcasting and I moved on to another career and our paths crossed a few times. For those of us in my age range, the 80s, almost every week another name is added to the list of those who have departed. So long old friend and thanks for the memories.
