I just noticed that CHCH has inserted a change into its "all vintage shows during the day" line-up. In between all the "Mad About You" and "Hogan's Heroes" repeats, the station picked up the rights to CBS' "Beyond The Gates," the first mainly all Black-cast soap opera in network history.
It airs every weekday from 2-3 PM, and then it's back to TV's greatest hits.
It's interesting that CH was the one to pick this up and that no other Canadian station expressed any interest in it.

I agree. You'd half expect Global to express some interest, since they air The Young and The Restless(a day or so ahead of CBS)...or CTV, since they have The Bold & The Beautiful.

I honestly don't know. How are the ratings for the show?

According to Soap Opera Network, for the week of March 3-7, Beyond The Gates averaged 1.74M viewers, slightly below ABC's General Hospital which clocked in with 1.882M total viewers. To put those numbers into perspective, the Eye Networks other two sudsers remain daytime drama ratings champ Y&R [3.033M] and runner up B&B [2.617M] However, CBS will be pleased when comparing the numbers from one year ago. Gates is up 516,000 viewers from the now cancelled The Talk.

Am I reading ckg927's post correctly that CHCH runs The Young and The Restless ahead of CBS by a day or two? I wonder how this came to be?

The Y&R is broadscast on Global. Global carries it one day ahead of the USA times and has done this for many years.

However, until 1986, CHCH did in fact carry the Y&R a day ahead of CBS at 4:30 pm. That put Vic Cummings on the soap opera map in Canada. He started out as the Community Happenings guy, and started commenting on the characters of the Y&R. He started a show called Soap Box, and even appeared on the Y&R.
I think it was John Best (perhaps, correct me if someone knows better) that cited Global outbidding CHCH for the Y&R was the start of the decline for the station.
