The Star claimed 1000, and it was called a "rally", not a parade. Mayor John Tory skipped it in favour of a council meeting.

Geez, when I was a kid we used to go down to CNE stadium and the place was packed. And that was for a losing team.  AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOS!!

Sad story. And curling? I live 500m from a curling rink. Don't see a lot of cars in the parking lot these days.

But Rachel Homan still has beautiful eyes, so there's that.

Struth!

They nailed it yesterday, as they almost always do. I can't imagine why anyone would rely on TV weather forecasts over what's available every day from many reliable sources.

But then again, lots of people pay premium prices for vinyl records.

That's very true. Here's a link I find handy for finding out the conditions in real time:

Who needs teevee weather forecasts? One minute spent on Environment Canada's weather site (or app if you're a youngun that lives on the phone) tells you what's going to happen. 30 seconds to view the forecast for your location, 30 seconds to check the radar.

I thought, visually at least, the Grey Cup broadcast experience was really well done. The Green Day performance captured my interest such that I stuck around to watch the game.

It was good football, and the camera & replay work was superb. Light years ahead of the last time I watched a football game. And much better than the run...run...incomplete...punt of the boring NFL product.

Can't say anything about the commentary, the sound was OFF.

I would hope any legitimate artist would do the same. The Stupor Bowl has a long history of lip synch performances.

I'm not a Green Day fan, and I thought going in they were going to be embarrassing, but they did a good set and gained my respect. The telecast was very well done.

I went there at halftime after the Raptors blowout of Detroit, mainly to see if Green Day were going to lip sync a la Super Bowl. They didn't, and were surprisingly good. So I stuck around for the second half and saw a damn good football game. Hadn't watched a football game in decades.

Oh, in this particular case I quite agree. Where it gets expensive is if you have a large property up north with lots of weeds. Compared to what a litre of concentrate used to cost, premix is outrageously expensive.

True, but it is ridiculously overpriced, and it's premixed. A jug doesn't go very far. It is possible to buy the concentrate (the kind that used to be available here) from some web sites in the USA. I decided to gamble and ordered some (generic glyphosate concentrate) from an equine oriented site. I was somewhat surprised when it arrived at my front door via UPS, no questions asked.

I'm 68 years old. I can't remember when there was no Dardanella. It's a part of the place. It will be a sad day when the Dard goes.

I remember when the bikers brought a hay bale into the town square, dropped it, and set it alight. Ha ha, those were the days.

The arcade, lost to a devastating fire.

Childhood memories, gone.

I expect the news was probably about the town's opposition to unauthorized auto rallies. I know they intended to moblize the Gest... sorry, the OPP.

I was there two weeks ago, but I always clear out ahead of holiday weekends.

Once school starts, the place becomes much more comfortable. But I miss the days when water came from a hand pump outside the back door, and my mom cooked on a Coleman stove powered by gasoline.

We won't talk about the outhouse, but there were three of them in a cluster. Neighbours, ya know. Everyone was fully visible on every visit, and no one cared at all. It was part of life in those days.

Not to mention the ice truck that came by with blocks of ice in sawdust. They had a barrel of water, and would dip your block in it to wash off the sawdust so you could take it inside and put it in the icebox.

I have a pair of the tongs they used to use.

Do I qualify as a local?

It was on the bay side. But I think djwildbill in post #3 nailed it. There's no right or wrong here.

I'm just telling you how we pronounced it in our little corner of the place. That was the accepted pronunciation. I can't say it your way, it feels unnatural.

It feels strange to even be debating it. I mean the conflict has existed long before any of us were born. The Hurons probably argued about it with the Redcoats.
