Global Toronto has been airing a repeat broadcast of Global National at 11:35 PM for a few months now. I don't remember exactly when it started.  "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" now starts at 12:05 AM the next day.

Back in June 2014, Sportsnet aired "What If? The Unlikely Story of Toronto's Baseball Giants"  It does have an entry on IMDB. It was produced by Bob McCown's Fadoo Productions. There are trailers online, but I don't think the full show is available online.

The CBCNN clock has always had issues. Several years ago, I noticed that in the evenings, their time for Newfoundland was wrong, as they cycled through PT, MT, CT, ET, AT, and NT.  It was, for example, 10:57pm ET, 11:57pm AT, but then it showed 12:27pm NT.  It should have been "am" in Nfld as it was after midnight. It went on for a few months.  I sent them feedback, but never got any acknowledgement.

Not sure if they ever fixed it as I cut cable shortly after.

I don't want to jinx it, but I probably will... I haven't heard any Spence commercials on NT1010 or GNR640 for a few days now.  Maybe they are cooking up a bunch of more awful ones.

The host mentioned on Monday night that it was the first night the show was being aired in Canada.  There even was a story about a raccoon in Toronto.

However, for whatever reason, they had two Global logos at the lower right corner for two nights in a row so far.  [Captured screenshots]

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I guess the live weekend morning radio experiment is over after months of having guest hosts (mostly Ben Mulroney).

640 is now airing "Toronto Today Weekend" with Grey Brady, and according to its web site, they will rerun John Oakley between 9 & 10 AM.  It will be reruns of Kelly Cutrara between 8 & 10 AM on Sunday.

Back in 2016, I noticed the clock on CBCNN was wrong for Newfoundland Time.  They had it as:

9:57 pm CT
10:57 pm ET
11:57 pm AT
12:27 pm NT

It should have been 12:27 am NT.

I notified them but they didn't acknowledge it.  I think they kept it going without fixing for a long time.  I lost track since as I have cut cable and no longer have access to CBCNN.

The only cable is the one that connects to the cable modem provided by the company you use. My mother switched to Rogers Ignite a few years ago.  Her set top boxes are basically IPTV boxes that uses either Ethernet or Wi-Fi.  All recordings made are in the cloud.

With the Rogers Ignite TV app, there are certain channels you cannot watch if you are not at home.  There is a list of "TV Go" channels that you can watch.  I am not sure if any of the sports channels are TV Go channels.  My guess is, they probably aren't.  However, you can still set up recordings for these non TV Go channels remotely, and then watch them at a later time.  No idea if you can start watching minutes after the recording starts, or if you have to wait until the recording is done before you can watch it though.

Not in radio, but just an office worker.  I was in the office, on the 9th floor of a downtown Toronto building.  Didn't even grab my laptop thinking it was a temporary thing and left the office.  I did, however, bring a cassette/radio walkman-type device I had in my drawer, grabbed two AAA batteries from reception and walked to the ground floor.  Waited around the base of the building like a regular fire drill, didn't get any updates as most radio stations weren't working.  Was then eventually told to go home.

Since there was no subway service, I started to walk... some radio stations did eventually come back, and found out it was a power outage.  Still didn't know the extend of the outage. I think I listened to 680 News at the time.  In the end, I walked from York & Wellington all the way up to Yonge & Shepherd.  It took about four hours or so.  Asked someone to pick me up and eventually went home around 9 PM.

I was working at a data centre at the time and someone that night went out and took a picture of the building and the data centre was the only floor of the entire building that had lights.  The company eventually turned that into a marketing campaign.  We had a few diesel generators on the roof of the building and I think they filled those suckers three times during the outage.  None of our customers suffered any downtime.

This is why I listen to Kelly Cutrara on CHML on 95.3 HD3 so I don't have to mute my radio for a minute when the Spence commercials come on.  Can't escape the ones from Coast Appliances though.

Will probably need to find a way to time-shift radio as more annoying commercials seem to be a trend.  Unlike NT1010, 640 doesn't make full shows available as podcasts.  I can create my own "podcasts" and record the radio with Audacity, but I can only listen to what I record after the entire recording is done, not while the show is still being recorded.

I thought it was my Plex Server that crapped out while recording Global News at 5:30.  I time-shift watching the news to avoid watching ads and Plex only recorded 58 minutes on Friday.  Glad to know it wasn't a problem with my Plex Server.

Hope they will fix their pixelation problem as OTA has been having issues since last September, which is still ongoing.

The problem is that not many people know HD radio exists. With data getting relatively cheaper (although it's still one of the most expensive places in the world for Canada as a whole), stations will just keep pushing their apps rather than HD Radio.  I don't have CarPlay or Android Auto in my old (2011) car, but I do have HD Radio.  I always listen to 640 & 1010 on HD even though the HD2 signal on 95.3 is sometimes spotty.

I like HD so much that I even bought a Sangean radio with HD that I listen to it at home rather than streaming various stations through my smart speakers.  I guess I'm one of the weird people out there.  If HD radio is gone, I will definitely miss it.

CSI Vegas (2021) doesn't bring back everybody at the same time and so far it's not bad.  At least I don't feel like I am hate-watching it.

As if one Spence Diamonds commercial isn't annoying enough.  There were TWO Spence spots within the same break on NT1010.  Come on... It's a recession and nobody has enough money to buy groceries.  Who can actually afford to buy diamonds?  It doesn't matter how many ads you run, nobody is going to buy your product.  So tone deaf.

I can't remember the last time I knew anyone who owned a battery operated (non-car) radio. In terms of availability during a power outage, it's been cell over radio every time for me.

I had a Walkman-type device with radio during the great blackout of August 14, 2003. I was working in downtown Toronto at the time and the radio came in handy as nobody knew what was going on as the building was being evacuated.  It kept me company while I made my trek from York & Wellington to Yonge & Sheppard where someone picked me up.

I do have one that I still use everyday.  It's a Sangean HDR-14.  I use it to listen to HD Radio for NT1010 & 640 Toronto.  There's too much interference where I live with AM radio...  It also came in handy with the Rogers outage back in July this year.

The picture quality also hasn't returned to normal.  Most shows I watch using an OTA continue to have scenes with pixelated pictures, especially if there are scenes that have fast-moving objects.  I think it has been like this since early September.

Also, whoever is pressing the buttons during "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" is also doing a terrible job... always go to commercials before the show fades out.  It's not too crucial, but it's just annoying.

According to my podcast catcher...
This week's show is hosted by Mike Kakuk and features panelists Ryan Price, news director and afternoon drive host on CFAX 1070 in Victoria, B.C, and Karen Restoule, CEO of Shared Value Solutions, BOLD Realities and Whose Land.

Just heard minutes ago an ad on 640 Toronto that Dani Stover, former producer of Kelly Cutrara's show is getting the 7 to 10 PM time slot.  I didn't pay too much attention, but the ad itself sounds like the "I'm Canadian Rant" beer ad from years ago.  Will try to pay more attention next time it airs.

Ads during a show are starting to get annoying.  First noticed it on Global TV.  They are showing ads for other shows that shrinks the show that is currently airing and have lower third and right third of the screen with the ad promoting other shows.  Then, on CityTV, they have these sort of preview ads where the lower-third is completely blocked with the show airing full screen (show airing is not resized), and then seconds later, the actual ad is shown.  Happened last night during "Quantum Leap".  I remember the show from years ago, but I haven't watched the reboot.  I just came across this in the guide and recorded it using my Plex Server to check it out.  There were two ads.  One for a PlayStation game, and the other was a MasterCard ad.  I know they have done this with live sports broadcasts for decades, but I think doing it during non-live programming is crossing a line.

Yes, broadcast TV is dying a slow death and they have to find new ways of generating revenue, but when you are selling ads like this, I think it will just drive more people to streaming.

Doesn't 640 Toronto always air their so-called "live" pressers tape delayed at least for a few minutes?  I noticed that during the daily Ford press briefings during 2021.  It was annoying as Ford was always late and the station makes the briefings even later... I think they do that on purpose just so they know when the press questions are and they have the option to cut to commercials.

Really?

I have my radio play through my PC and I have a script that mutes it for 58 seconds as soon as the commercial comes on.  As soon as I hear "Callum", I click over to the terminal window and start that script.

Luckily, since Kelly Cutrara has moved time slot, I now listen to her on CHML on 95.3 HD3.  I listen to this station instead of 640 Toronto when she comes on in the afternoon so I have a few hours I can avoid the stupid commercial completely.

If you buy one of the Chromecast with Google TV "sticks", and install it on your bedroom TV, you can use the IgniteTV app on your phone to watch shows on the TV using the casting option.  The cheap (non-4K) one is about $40, which his a lot cheaper than renting an extra TV box from Rogers.

In Markham, Ontario, about 100 metres south of Highway 7 between Leslie & Bayview.

I use an indoor OTA that faces south.  I checked my tuner and when tuned to 41.1, all of signal strength, signal quality, and symbol quality are at 100%.  It has been almost a month, and I am still seeing these artifacts.

Used to be their listener.  I remember they had a trial run when they went sports in the evenings, and then eventually switched to full-time sports in September, 1992.  I think I heard them switched to The Fan at 3 PM when Bob McCown went live from the then SkyDome.  I think Dan Shulman was also there.  The semi-regular segment later named "Lady and the Tramps" (the two previously mentioned gentlemen along with Barb DiGiulio) was great even though it didn't have a lot to do with sports... Had listened to The Fan for many years, even streaming them from work when they were streaming from their web site using RealAudio.  Haven't listened to them once since they fired Bob McCown though.  Wasn't a huge fan of McCown, but I just didn't like how Rogers handled things.

I hope she gets a good package.  When Bell (not Bell Media) was finalizing the deal to buy the company I used to work at (they already owned 66%, just getting the rest at the time), they were firing middle managers left, right, and centre, and didn't care how long and hard these people worked.  I guess Bell Media is the same.  I have actually witnessed that a person was having a meeting, asked to go to the main boardroom and then got papers handed to her.  Just terrible.

Those who are in charge don't really care about HD Radio.  The rest of them don't know anything about them.  All they care about is streaming and smart speakers these days.  I once submitted a comment to NT1010 about the loss of their HD Radio signal back in May 2000, and surprisingly Mike Bendixen (Program Director at NT1010 before he left/was fired) personally responded.  At GNR640, nobody cares.  Their HD Radio signal is weaker than NT1010's and I have tried to get their attention multiple times when their broadcast goes silent even though my radio shows good signal, and nobody has acknowledged any of my messages.
