Back in the early 70's me and my young up and coming radio cronies would sit up late to listen to Bob Dearborn on WCFL .  He had a feature called "Long Gold" whereby he would play the extended version of a  song .  (In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida .. Pappa Was a Rolling Stone..etc. ) . It was a great feature then. Would love to see (hear ) it revived !

Have used IP Vanish for a couple of years and never had an issue..at home or when using it on a Firestick while traveling the World. They do have an "automatic renewal "  every year and this year I noticed many of the others (Nord, Express) were offering much better deals...2 years plus for what I was paying for one year of IP Vanish.
I informed them I wanted to cancel..they asked why. I told them and they  offered me another year.. at less than half price. Lesson learned.  You have to call these guys out...just like the major Canadian carriers.

Friend of mine worked  here in Canada for a large U.S. based pharmaceutical company. A member of the American sales force was here in Canada...asked my buddy what he was doing for the weekend. My friend said "It's Thanksgiving weekend". The American had a puzzled look on his face  so my friend had to explain we celebrate Thanksgiving earlier here in Canada. His response......"so it's not the REAL Thanksgiving ! We laugh about this every year...how our's isn't the REAL one . Only Americans can celebrate that !!

No different than people who drive along, streaming music, who don't catch a traffic report ...and drive straight into an accident scene and a major backup. Have to admit it has happened to me on occasion. Always grab a quick hit from 680 News BEFORE I get on the highway.

Congrats to Lester Holt and NBC for grabbing the top spot...this Newscast is now the one I watch  at 6:30 after many years of watching ABC. I like David Muir as an Anchor but everything about the ABC cast has become a little too dramatic for me while Lester seems to have more of a calming presence. What really put me off was the ABC intro...it seemed to go on ..and on...and on...with David telling me what was coming up. Then to him at the desk...where he proceeded to tell me again..what was coming up .Get to the damn top story!! Finally, with CBS looking for a new Anchor at 6:30..they might want to consider Tom Llamas (who was at ABC) now filling in for Lester at NBC  or Whit Johnson who fills in for David at ABC. Both do an excellent job.

Terrible to say but another example of radio being "first". Back in the day my late Mother never missed the Death notices on radio...otherwise you had to wait for the weekly paper to come out to inform you that so- and -so had passed away. As we get older, how many of us check the Obituaries every day !? As I like to say , it is a good day when your name isn't there ! ( By the way , I rely on the Yellow board ,as well, to keep me updated on passings within the industry. )

Warren was a great broadcaster  and an even better friend.  I was ,unfortunately away on vacation when he passed away but left this tribute to him . He had asked me to speak at his funeral but once told me  I only had 5 minutes. I remember we both laughed when I said " Warren...it will take me that long to think up something nice to say about you !"

Posted Jan 23, 2024 at 12:22pm Smith Funeral Home Stoney Creek Ontario "Hope I die before I get old " - The Who (from My Generation)

When I think of this lyric...I think of my friend , Warren. He may have been in his 91st year , elderly in some people's books but not to him..or me. While he was old school in some ways he was always young in spirit , keeping abreast of current events and staying in touch with friends and family right up until the end. We were friends for more than 40 years....had lunch together the week before his passing and during that last meeting , did as we usually did...talked about sports..politics..the state of the world ..laughed ..and oh yes, discussed whether his cell phone was working
properly. !! I would usually say, " Warren..you have almost a hundred messages here" ..so if you didn't hear from him in the months previous, you know why.
Warren and I were broadcast competitors initially in Hamilton...became work colleagues at Mohawk college and friends for life. We spoke on the phone almost every day...twice a day after Paula's passing and I will miss those daily calls going forward. We took some memorable trips with Warren and Paula over the years. Warren and I walked the beaches in Normandy France...rode the subway in St. Petersburg Russia...visited the shipyards in Gdansk Poland..and drank waayyy too much red wine at a lengthy dinner in Rome.
Warren was a good guy..and a good friend who always stayed in touch. We even spoke when we were away on vacation after I managed to teach him how to use Messenger on his phone. One of the trips he always wanted to take
