The Canadian Press looked into multiple online social media reports that Fox News wasn't available on cable here. Of course, it discovered that's not true - but it doesn't mean it may not be, pending a future CRTC probe.
Fox News isn't banned in Canada, despite viral posts claiming otherwise – but it could be

Fox News was part of the channels available at the Inn I stayed at this past weekend in Peterborough.

I always remember when the CRTC approved FNC for carriage in Canada. They stipulated that it could not be purchased as a stand alone channel. It was to bundled with other news channels offering alternative points of view.

I subscribe to Fox News
It's available with my Bell Fibe service
To paraphrase a line from the Howard Stern movie "Private Parts", I subscribe because "I want'a hear what they're going to say next"
The thing is, I can't watch for more than a few minutes before I must tune away
It's difficult to watch such a veiled threat against democracy (but still wise to be aware of what they are saying)

Overall, I wouldn't want to see FOX News Network banned in Canada. However if they ever were I also wouldn't be whining and shouting about our freedom since the network brought it on themselves. They are proven to be liars, actually undermine democracy, and spread misinformation. And the worst part, don't really seem to care.
Many defenders of FOX tend to say that CNN, MSNBC, "the mainstream media" and others are just as guilty. No they are not. Watch FOX NN for any length of time and it shocking how blatantly one sided and biased they are. And how they only seem to be a cheerleader for Mr. Trump and anything to do with the Republican party. None of the other networks (including CBC) are anything like this. Not even close.
It is interesting from the article for the reasoning of the CRTC to ban Russia's RT news network and their French service RT France. From the article..."The CRTC removed the Russian state-controlled TV channels RT and RT France from its list of approved non-Canadian programming services after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In its decision, the CRTC said it was "concerned with programming from a foreign country that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of another country, demean Canadians of a particular ethnic background and undermine democratic institutions within Canada."
Interesting to note that FOX News Network, it could be argued, says similar things about Canada, Canadians, our style of government and initially the LGBTQ community. Many of the same things that got RT banned here. So this is why I say if they were ever dumped from our cable line up, I wouldn't really care. But as also mentioned, doubtful it would actually happen.

I agree that banning it is a bad idea. I hate censorship - and it's exactly the kind of thing Fox would probably support if it didn't involve its own brand.
The sad thing is I keep seeing the kinds of headlines at the link below in many of the major credible websites, indicating the network that has admitted to lying on many occasions is dominating the news ratings in the U.S.
That's frightening, but I suppose it illustrates that people tune in to what they want to hear. How they're going to break this Mesmer-like effect down south isn't clear, but hopefully people will wake up one day and realize that what their watching is hardly credible "news."

If you enjoy viewpoint news Global National is unmatched. Last night was perhaps the zenith in Dawna Freisen and Jackson Proskow's slanted fantasy talk on American current events. Inserting their own interpretation of other peoples words and actions is truly at John Moore levels.

Is RT still banned on cable? I know Al-Jazeera was for a while. Any others?
Personally, I'm against picking and choosing news services to censor. Somewhere in the middle of all of them lies the truth, and I watch all regularly.

Oh the irony. All that anti-immigrant venom and continuous anti-democracy lies and conspiracies were brought to America by...an immigrant. He's doing similar damage to the UK.
Murdoch's horrifically-disruptive choices made him extremely wealthy and made Western democracies weaker. The bastard.

I really don't care how popular FOX NN is in the US. They aren't popular here, and let's hope never will be. Cable networks can't be regulated? What a stupid position to put yourself in, and it was created by the US government and FCC. So a cable station can be fined big money and threatened if they show any advertising that lies or is misleading...but do the same regarding news, and "our hands are tied." How dumb is that??
It is not a God given right for FOX NN to be on in Canada. If they are ever pulled they only have themselves to blame. Sure there will be certain groups and the hacks at FOX that would howl and whine about their freedom and censorship. Sucks to be you.
It would be preferred to my thinking that FOX stays on cable here. However I won't think we are losing any of our freedoms if they were pulled. A network that is based on lies, misinformation and clearly doesn't believe or care about democracy should not be lecturing anybody, including Canadians about freedom.

RT is still banned. I have the English Al-Jazeera in my cable news package. I don't think the Arab version has ever been available here.

Didn't Fox News admit in court in its lawsuit that it is not a News channel at all, just an entertainment site, in other words not to be taken any more seriously than a sitcom?
That defence tactic should be quoted every time there is a story that in any way suggests Fox is a news outlet.

Also if Fox really believes they are not a news channel, they shouldn't refer to themselves as Fox News or Fox News Network.

Maybe they should rebrand as Fox "News" Channel.
