SOWNY » A December To Remember For Canadian Newsrooms » Today 10:07 am |
I seem to recall some years ago a U.S. politician floating the idea that the then federal gov't should offer every Canadian over 18 one million dollars each to sell our sovereignty to them and become part of the U.S. It was laughed off then as a lark.
SOWNY » White Christmas {Not The Song} » Yesterday 7:55 am |
Anyone wanting to see snow for Christmas simply has to travel north from the GTA . I'm sure the residents of Barrie through Parry Sound and over to Huntsville back to Orillia would be happy to share. Just bring a shovel.

I have been stocking my PVR with movies to get me through. CBC just aired ' A Christmas Story " last night , that will be my first watch Christmas Day, a kinda sorta tradition for me. I can never see little Ralphie almost shoot his eye out enough times.

I thought Organized was ok, the Stabler character is always interesting in any of the L&O's he appears in. I look forward to that series returning on CITY if paterson1 and Brioux are indeed correct.

SOWNY » What Was The Best Year For Music On The Radio? » December 16, 2024 7:38 am |
The 2000 era of new country was extremely popular at that time. Garth Brooks, Shania et all dominated radio in that genre. Sirius still had a 2YK channel last time I was able to receive their service a couple of years ago.

Up here in the north, the Sudbury Wolves hockey team commercials for upcoming games has a guy that I think is trying to do a Steve Austin [ the wrestler ] impersonation as he always starts the spot with Helllllllll Yeahhhhhhhhhh. This guys voice is , to me, so irritating to listen to , I immediately hit the preset button. He could be a nice person, I just find those ad's difficult to hear.

I did the news on Saturdays at CKMP in Midland, sure enough as God is my witness, (to borrow a phrase), a news story that came across the wire...had the name "Mike Hunt" from Texas, thankfully Mike Monty taught us well at Seneca and I quickly made the edit to "Michael Hunt".
The last thing you want are a flurry of phone calls from upset listeners in Huronia (County).
It got better from that day on!
Muffaraw, I did mornings on CKMP for a year in 1981-82. When were you there ? Perhaps we crossed paths back then.

Hey mic'em! Fellow S'sider here. Many a night was spent listening to CJRW waiting to tape my favourite songs! I had no idea there were such shenanigans going on in that little studio!
My time there was 1974-75. You likely remember the name Ray Arsonault , if you were around at that time. He replaced me when I moved to Ontario. I also was morning man on Chtn Charlottetown for a year after returning to the Island in 1977-78.

I hear Under the Influence Thursday mornings at 11.30 am on CBC Radio 1 in Sudbury. Terry continues to produce an interesting half hour broadcast that obviously has alot of research done to create the show. I really enjoyed the segment on the Davey and Goliath show that was part of this weeks episode.

Cannadore College in North Bay closed their radio and tv courses some years ago now, the studio still exists, the college rents it out to a FM station, CFXN aka Jet Fm. Or at least they did last time I was in the area.

Similar story for me. I was volunteering at a small, and I mean small 250 watt station in Summerside PEI , CJRW. The evening announcer was a fellow high school kid , we were both 17 . . I ran the board for him while he sat in the main studio adjacent to the control room, and after a few weeks, he got to the point where he was bringing his buddies in to party and I pretty much just played records with no breaks. One night, the station owner came in to find the place full of smoke, and beer bottles littering the studio. Needless to say, the kid was fired on the spot, the boss said to me can you take over, I said I've been in the chair for weeks already, and voila, I became the night announcer. My first words on air were, I think," this is Mike at night, your listening to 1230 CJRW Summerside". My last radio gig in Brampton, in the mid 80's, I used the moniker Michael Nyte in tribute.

I'm surprised to read that NCIS Origins is not doing great. It is really well done from the acting to the storylines in my opinion. The fact that Mark Harmon narrates and has been seen briefly in some episodes just makes it that much more enticing for fans of the original series. Maybe all of the spin off series have damaged the credibility of the brand, but I'm finding Origins to be my favorite new show in sometime.

As Dale said, Stephanie, you should seen it what it was like a few years back. But, for the most part, we are all adults here, opinions are going to vary and be written in the spur of the moment. It's a message board on radio, it is what it is.

I will admit, the only one I have watched is NCIS Origins, which is really well done. What are the rest of you watching now that most networks have broadcast the fall finales, which in itself is a new phenomenon in the last few years. I can't recall the networks using this term until recently.

I know Rogers as a company deserves the flack they receive, but , I would like to point out that Edward and Suzanne Rogers this week donated three million dollars to the community of Elliot Lake to finish the arena there and to help the local hospital. Suzanne was born in Elliot Lake, her father died there in a mining incident when she was very young. I heard her interviewed on the Sudbury CBC morning show this week, she still goes yearly to visit her fathers gravesite. I almost bought a home there this year, but my wife was concerned of the lack of cardiac Dr's in that area, so we bought in Chelmsford instead.
