RA, that's a standard tactic for trying to prevent a fragmented market.  The incumbent says that only with synergies can a second station be successful.  In many cases, they aren't wrong and it does influence the Commission.  However, in this case, Cabin is already established and has proven they can develop audience and advertiser share.

My prop bet is on Cabin to win this.... assuming a licence is awarded at all.  Don't forget, the CRTC initially said there was no room for another station, therefore they would have to roll back their previous decision should they award anyone.

If I had a choice between listening to a radio station programmed by a J. Robert Wood or a Rick Sklar or one with a CRTC drone at the helm, you know which one I'd have my dial tuned to. They don't know radio. Regulate who gets what frequency. Decide who gets awarded a licence.

But for God's sake, let the pros do what they do best and keep the government bureaucrats' noses out of programming. Period.

Why is that so hard to understand?

WTF are you talking about constantly.... the CRTC  DOES NOT regulate mainstream commercial radio programming other than 35% Cancon, which has been debunked as a threat.

BTW were you aware that one of Canadas biggest radio companies is now run by a programmer instead of an accountant???

CJQM was the first station i worked at way back in the 80s.  hugely popular for radio "way out in the country".... which is a rather toronna-centric opinion of a city with a population of 77,000!

torres would require pre-approval from the Commission before taking control of the station... even during the transfer period.  i haven't seen that yet.

For the record, it appears they'll be switching from 560 to 89.3. They've been given two years to the day to get it up and running - Oct. 31, 2026.

My question - after people get used to the move and the station establishes itself as an FM entity in the area, how long will they hang onto the oldies?

Don't know their plans, but typically in these situations the new format (or adjustment) starts the minute the FM is turned on. If people pass by 89.3 and it's playing oldies, they'll assume that's what the station is and not come back.

it also all depends on what Zoomer will flip to when their takeover is approved.

Bayshore IS a "Corporation" certainly, but has one owner who is interested in growing the brand by listening to people like Kevin.

My original post was strictly about Bayshore Broadcastion and I thought I kept it positive. In a subsequent post I referred to my political leanings, just as an explanation for my colossal ignorance about corporate and business law.

I think you're referring to "Mock the Week".  It was a topical comedy show.  "News of the World" was it's theme song, sung by The Jam.
