You're probably right.  Maybe try the CBSC with a cc to the Commission.

CFOS as we know is hoping to move to the FM dial.  All of the radio stations in Grey/Bruce and Huron counties seem to be surviving.  The area has about 20 stations for a population of 235,000.  The CFOS format is kind of eclectic, a little similar to Zoomer and will sound interesting and unique on FM. CFOS likely still does fairly well in the mornings.

If approved by the CRTC, they’ll have to examine their ratio of 50s/60s/70s hits versus any hits 1981 and older. Why? The FM 49% non-hit rule versus 51% hit still applies. If it’s a hit on any of their approved charts before 1981 then it’s a “CRTC hit” but any top 40 hits from 1981 to current are considered “CRTC non-hits”. As long as the station meets the criteria then they’re good.

They might be able to axe that rule if they choose to simulcast AM on the new FM frequency. Zoomer Radio 740 and CKDO are doing this already in their markets.

the non-hit rule was eliminated years ago.

my very first station job was creating new carts and fixing old ones.  i was 12 and the station's engineer took pity on me as a kid hanging around the station.  he gave me a machine that would feed out 30, 60, 90, and 120 second tape from a reel onto a cart spool, that i would splice with a razor blade and tape to insert into a cart.  I think i charged 50 cents per unit.  aah good times.

So this is an FM rule only? Why in the world would the CRTC mandate that difference? That's insane. Both are broadcasting stations and should be under the same regs. It may also mean your theory about taking talk to a Corus FM is off the table for the two-year hiatus.

The difference is the CRTC acknowledges that AM is in its final days and allows for a “Whatever works” approach.

It theoretically would take an FM move off the table, but it didn’t stop them in Calgary, and that was even before the CRTC shutdown.

Theoretically, stations can do whatever they want now without any regulatory oversight.  The Commission isn't accepting or acting on complaints, nor is it monitoring stations or conducting basic renewal examinations.  Unscrupulous operators are going to have a field day skirting or simply ignoring the rules.

it's amazing the number of variety/panel shows that are huge hits in the UK but bomb in the US.  Would I lie to you is one, and the other i can think of is Taskmaster.  TM is huge in the UK, and has offshoots in something like 5 other countries, including Kabek.  The CW network booked six episodes and ran exactly one before bailing.

I'm thinking it's not about the format....
BTW it's pretty noticeable that The Wheel US has been dumbed down for the audience, just like The Chase US does.

Looking forward to seeing the teens/early 20's crowd reaching their late 40's and complaining about the current trends in popular music. Trust me. It will happen.

Actually, I found myself complaining about the current state of music around the time I was 23, as the likes of Vanilla Ice and 2 Live Crew were dominating the charts at the time. Then a few years later, grunge took hold, and that pretty much soured me on a lot of new music. I gave it try, thinking "Okay, music changes and evolves, you gotta evolve with it." By 1994, I wasn't feeling it. I actually found myself listening to a lot of new country around that time

@PaulJefferies i relate completely. i was a hair metal guy to the extreme.... except when rock collapsed i got into blues in a big way.  there were a lot of texas blues artists that captured a rock feel, like david gogo, johnny lang, kenny wayne sheppard etc.  also some cancon stepped up like the first releases by our lady peace and i mother earth, later the headstones.

Whither Canada could allude to the "Its Man" in the opening sequence, coming across the water.  There's never been an adequate answer to that.

re: Python's Contractual Obligation Album...

from Wiki:

Two tracks on the album caused controversy when first released. The lead track, "Sit on My Face" was sung to the tune of "Sing as We Go", a song made famous by Gracie Fields, and reportedly its inclusion led to legal threats against the Python team for copyright infringement over the melody.[4] Nonetheless, the song was retained on the album and had already been lip-synched by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones as the opening of the second half of Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl, shortly before the album's release (the song opens the heavily edited 1982 film version). The concert film also features Terry Jones twice miming to "Never Be Rude to an Arab". In 2014, "Sit on My Face" was featured in the 2014 Monty Python performance reunion concert series, Monty Python Live (Mostly), expanded into a production number.
