Make a contribution and you'll get a better seat"

Pretty sure Jesus walked around telling people to give him drachmas in order to avoid hell.

Religions are just a cult with better PR.

SOWNY » CTV News Broadcasting Live From TIFF Tomorrow/New Anchor » Today 12:12 pm

I would expect a news outlet to cover TIFF and its goings-on, but I'm surprised Bell would actually broadcast from there given they ended TIFF and Lightbox sponsorship back in 2023.

I saw a clip yesterday of PM Mark Carney talking about John Candy in his SCTV era.  Carney talked about Johnny LaRue, Melonville mayor Tommy Shanks and a few others.  Hoping he would have mentioned William B. Williams and maybe even attempt the classic William B. laugh.

The William B. laugh is iconic for me.

And 640 has listeners to gain with this move? Weekend tuning is almost gone.

The Bell syndication angle makes sense but I don't get why Corus would add the show to their lineup or how they can afford it, given their cash flow issue.

Yeah...does this mean someone is out? If so, I'll wager Brady and Mulroney are safe and would put my money elsewhere.

No issue with CP24 being on in the studio...we all know the layout and it's running that format all day long. Global flips to lifestyle programming at 9am.

Epstein survivors just announced they will release their own list of names. “We know who abused us. We saw who came and went. This list will be survivor-led — for survivors.” The government failed. So the victims are stepping up.

This might be the best idea yet...but any anonymous accusers may have to out themselves. There is still the concept of innocent until proven guilty but having those names out in the public would be interesting.

She's both!

Lying is usually done to cover incompetence so yes, both.

SOWNY » TSN Cutting Overdrive to 2 Hours » September 3, 2025 1:44 pm

From the article:

The trio will be on live from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., sticking to the regular start time, with the 6-7 hour shifting to what the network is calling OverDrive replay.

A replay from a show that just aired is an interesting approach to programming.

Saw them in Oshawa about six weeks ago. Decent show.

Nelvana's website is still active:

In the event this news is true (likely); thank you Nelvana for "The Devil and Daniel Mouse", "Rock & Rule", and introducing the world to Boba Fett in the animated sequence "The Faithful Wookie", which was a part of the execrable "Star Wars Holiday Special" that George Lucas once swore to eradicate from existence.

The currently cash-strapped Corus Entertainment acquired Nelvana in 2000.

Thanks for this, the picture in the G&M article appears to be using the real banner hanging outside the Labour Department:

Which means the one I asked about earlier is indeed fake:

SOWNY » 680 Newsradio: An Overly Long Pause For Thought » August 31, 2025 11:25 am

There can be quite a chasm between hearing someone live vs. tape. I recall listening to 680 the day Amy Winehouse died. It was a Saturday. They had called in their Mon-Fri entertainment reporter to cover the breaking news and he was full of "umms", "ahhs", and weird silences as he collected his thoughts in the moment.

Before that day, every report of his I'd heard was slick and smooth - which is when it dawned on me that every single report I'd heard prior to that day was on tape. My takeaway was that 680 had done this reporter a bit of a disservice by never letting him flex his "live on-air" muscles. Everything sounded good thanks to the editing suite.

I'm glad they specified the location, it's been awfully difficult to keep track since all those other Vaticans cropped up.

One other thing - I've heard one of the anchors who does this, Ben Howes, doing the :15 and :45 sports update. The read is smooth with no pauses at all between items. Again, it would appear that perhaps they're being asked to do this, although I can't for the life of me imagine the reason. But boy does it make their newscasts sound stilted and awkward.

Sports is likely on tape overnight.

Was anybody else surprised by the pronunciation of "SOWNY" by both Messrs. Boon and Berkovits?

I've always pronounced it as "SONY", same as the Japanese tech company, treating the "W" as silent. I heard both Mike and Jack emphasize the "W", making it sound like "SOW (female pig) - Knee".

^That's what I'm talking about. I'm not interested in mock ups, they're too easy and just add to the noise. I want to know if the actual slogan on that banner is what TomTV posted. I suspect it is real and I can't believe they're using it. Wait, maybe I can.

SOWNY » Why Doesn't The CBC Use Both French & English Subtitles? » August 29, 2025 9:09 am

The added cost to subtitle a show has to be cheaper than filming a show in both English and French simultaneously, as they did with the 1980s-era "He Shoots, He Scores" / "Lance et Compte".

The fact they can't subtitle in-house for free is wrong and needs to be remedied as soon as possible.

I've never understood the concept of pranking and have always thought April Fool's Day is kinda dumb.

That aside, listing Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" program as a prank feels disingenuous.

And that picture of Nixon is not Nixon, I'm guessing it's Frank Langella in full make up from the "Frost/Nixon" film.

As annoying and tired as "Escape" can be, I do enjoy the story in the lyrics: Married man sees personal ad looking for a lover, responds to learn the ad was posted by his wife. O'Malley's must've been interesting that night. Still not sure who the villain is either.

There is a "Yacht Rock" channel on SiriusXM. I recommend metered doses even if it does cure road rage.

SOWNY » MSNBC Getting New Name » August 25, 2025 3:33 pm

Can't seem to find any channel-swapping 'Flex' option for my Bell Fibe. Fox News and MSNBC can be added for a mere $4/month each. That's too high a price for full on disciple-ism on one side and full on TDS on the other.

Neither Fox nor MSNBC do well in Canada. CNN outperforms them tenfold if not more, especially during major U.S. news events.

CNN is included in my one-level-up-from-the-bottom-tier Fibe cable package, Fox News and MSNBC are not. That likely contributes to better numbers for CNN.

On your ten flex channels you could drop one or two and pick up MSNBC and FOX News and at no extra charge.  I gave both these services about three months but didn't really like them.  I like the flex channel aspect since you can check out other channels and drop them anytime if you aren't watching or don't find them that interesting.

Huh. Not sure if I have this 'Flex' option of which you speak, will have to investigate. Thanks, P1!
