Have to admit that I'm more of a 60s and 70s oldies-type fan, but I really enjoyed Boom's weekend special, playing only so-called "Yacht Rock." For those not familiar with the genre, it's a certain breezy over-produced type of music from the late 70s and early 80s. You can see some examples of it here.
They were playing nothing but those tunes, which included many songs you don't often hear on the radio. (And in some cases, that's a good thing!) Anyway, it was kind of refreshing instead of the same old 'best-of' playlist nearly every station puts out.
I hope they do it again - although not too often!

Escape [The Pina Colada Song] holds the distinction of being the last Hot 100 #1 song of the 1970's.

The Youtube series that inspired the revival.

HBO had a good series a few years back called Music Box. One of the episodes delt with Yacht Rock. Pretty interesting. Some groups like Steely Dan really don't like the fact that they are considered in this genre. Donald Fagen was ticked told the interviewer to F.O. when he was asked about how many of the groups hits are now considered Yacht Rock.

That song is a station switcher for me! Didn’t like it from the get go, up there with “Seasons in the Sun”.

Agree, always disliked that song, along with Afternoon Delight.

Also reminds me a lot of EZ Rock that Telemedia created for their Adult Contemporary stations back in the 1990's. Anyone know if the EZ Rock format is still around anywhere? I thought there were still a few out west.

None left. Last remaining EZ Rock stations in BC flipped out of the format in 2021.

If memory serves, Boom did a Yacht Rock feature last year as well.

Yeah, that one sucks too paterson1, along with “Stay Awhile” by the Bells, long before Yatch Rock!
