Just stop with the partisan political debate here. The original topic of this post was the National Post's decrease in subscribers, and you people turned it into yet another off-topic, right versus left, liberal versus conservative, Republican versus Democrat argument. If you don't like that people don't align with your political beliefs/values/opinions, that's your fault - nobody else's.

If RA does not crack down on such off-topic political fights, I will close my account and never again use or visit the SOWNY board.

Do you recall why the person mentioned in the initial comments cancelled their subscription? I think it’s important to point out how the Canadian newspapers have taken a hard right turn, granted it’s not radio or TV.

The reality is, Canada is at or near the top of any metric you’d use to measure a country’s success compared to others.

In 2014 Canada had the richest Middle Class in the world. Then we got boy wonder. Today Ontario has the same per cap GDP as Alabama and the eastern Provinces are at the level of the State of Mississippi, which is the very bottom of America productivity. (You can thank Alberta for fiscally floating Canada) All this is easy to verify.
The word 'disinformation' is a controlling term employed to maintain power over a narrative. If you disagree with the National Post written account then present a coherent rebuttal.

Please provide a legitimate source. Also, many Canadians get confused about Provincial versus Federal responsibilities.

I don’t think reporting on the most corrupt premiere in Ontario history and his many scandals is petty or negative. Especially when you have one of the main columnists at the Toronto Sun sharing a bed with Ford’s press person.

Talk radio for guys?
What?
You alienate 50 per cent of the audience.

It's actually the way talk radio is trending today - away from news and politics. It was basically a dressed up version of Hot Talk or FM Talk. AM radio is pretty much a guy domain to begin with, so alienating women listeners wasn't a huge problem. I think leaning hard into the "For Guys" thing got them decent publicity.

Here's an example of an FM station doing guy talk, getting great ratings in a very competitive market (Tampa.) They also get a decent share of women. Carry the Tampa Bay Lightning Games too. Station website is geoblocked, but can listen here:

We sometimes had a caller 92, and I would always do every caller. I’d answer “you’re caller number 58, try again etc” until we hit 92. I think there’s a small thrill for the listener that you are actually taking the calls, and them finding out how close they were.
Major pet peeve is people who would call knowing a contest was coming soon, and would just hang up every time you answered. The flawed logic that if your phone is ringing to the station when a contest is announced, you’ll have an edge. Soon as the contest happens, all lines dumped.

My all-time favourite. Back in the 90s, I bought a bunch of nicely packaged hockey fight VHS tapes from a music store in London. They were clearly made in Buffalo, as 70% of the fights were Sabres. Jeanneret brought so much excitement to his call of the game.
A nice tribute from the Sabres:

There’s a relatively new show called “Reboot” about rebooting a classic show. It’s on Disney+ here (I think). Really sharply written, 8 episodes. Critically lauded, but not renewed. Highly recommend.

Stars Paul Reiser and Keegan Michael Key and a solid ensemble.

Despite P1 trying to goad me into this, I promised in the opening post not to express my opinion in this thread and I will honour that pledge. He is, of course, free to assume whatever he wants, although I do think it's important to point out that this story did not originate with Post Media. The article actually cites La Presse as the source. It's a French language Montreal newspaper, that is owned by an independent non-profit trust.

Yes, but filtered through Postmedia’s right wing lens. And if you dig into the actual facts, it’s about being able to express things like “racism is bad.”

Hard disagree. CBC is a talk station on FM and leads the market. The future of talk radio is FM. It wasn’t the fact that it was on FM that killed Roundhouse. A subpar signal was part of it.
