Rick Jeanneret, Voice Of The Buffalo Sabres, Dies At 81

Buffalo sports fans are mourning the loss of a legend - Rick Jeanneret was the voice of the Buffalo Sabres for an incredible 51 years. He got his start as a DJ at CJRN in Niagara Falls, before calling the local Flyers games. 

He called his last match for his longtime NHL team in April 2022, and, together with Ted Darling, was in the broadcast booth since the 1971-72 season.  

He had just turned 81 last month.

My all-time favourite. Back in the 90s, I bought a bunch of nicely packaged hockey fight VHS tapes from a music store in London. They were clearly made in Buffalo, as 70% of the fights were Sabres. Jeanneret brought so much excitement to his call of the game.
