Unable to receive CITS at all here on the Bluffs. However, CHCH is very strong as before. Maybe CITS is not yet at full power?

Maybe a better higher quality radio would also help. The sound is very poor when listening via TuneIn in my Tesla.

FLOW is going to lose a lot of listeners as 98.7 is a poor signal in many areas that 93.5 covered especially in the east end of Toronto. Does anyone know if they’ve been approved to test HD?

Country would definitely make the most sense. CKIS 92.5  has also made some recent changes. Playing a lot of throwbacks now in addition to new music.

I am on the top of the Scarbrough Bluffs right by the lake and I haven’t been able to get WBLK at all for the last month or so. Maybe they’ve changed their signal pattern or reduced their power. WKSE comes in quite well and is often strong enough that I can listen in HD. The reception of CKIS here has also been poor for the last several weeks. Often times I can’t even lock into HD. I think there’s another signal on 92.5 that is interfering and I am not that far from downtown. Maybe they need to apply again for that power increase that was denied a couple times by the CRTC

CIDC 103.5 was broadcasting in HD but ceased a few weeks ago. Spoke to the station engineer at the time and he said they were doing some antenna work and then the HD would be on again. It was for a few days and now nothing. Still poor sound quality here in the east end of Toronto. With HD, the sound was much improved. Doesn't make much business sense to spend $100K or more on upgrades for HD and then not use it.

Bell Media did start broadcasting again in HD briefly on both CHUM HD-1, 2 and CKFM HD-1, 2 back in 2018. However, apparently some listeners of CHUM complained of poor sound quality when listening to the non HD signal so they ceased broadcasting in HD on both stations. Then in Sept 2018, CKFM resumed with HD-1, 2, 3, 4 and Bell shelved plans for CHUM HD.

Here in the east of Toronto, Z103.5 HD1 sounds much better than before. Was very staticy. It would definitely make sense to put Proud FM on HD2 as the signal can barely be heard much beyond the downtown area (and not at all out here).

The HD signal sound quality of 99.9, 92.5 and 95.3 are all way superior to CHUM-FM. If only they would turn back on their HD also.

I was at Danforth and Victoria Park yesterday and was only receiving WYRK. They’ve been doing a lot of advertising recently and with the atmospheric conditions, their potential audience was only a fraction of what it should be. Not a good situation for a new radio station.

Maybe 106.5 was not the best frequency for this new station or they need an increase in power. The last couple of days reception has been intermittent with WYRK Buffalo drowning out their signal as close to downtiwn as Yonge and 401. And appears they’ve turned off their HD. Doesn’t seem to be helping much.

Have had a Tesla for 6 months now. Would never go back to a gasoline car especially as I now spend approx. $30/mo for electricity versus $250/mo in gas. Most of the major AM radio stations in the GTA are now broadcast on the FM HD2 or HD3 carriers in crystal clear quality. And we also have Tunein included.

Effective today, Bell Media once again has CKFM 99.9 broadcasting in HD with CFRB Newstalk 1010 on HD2 and TSN 1050 on HD3. Apparently they had turned off the IBOC several months ago as some listeners with older radios were complaining about the sound quality on CHUM FM. No word from Bell as to when CHUM FM will again go HD.

Perhaps the retrofitting they did at the CN Tower last year for HD on these two stations did not go as well as planned or maybe these listeners are having problems listening to other HD stations such as CKIS...

I think you are all missing the point of HD radio. It's not a new medium as FM was originally. It's simply a significant enhancement to existing FM and AM radio. As most new cars are now equipped with HD radios, and indeed my new Tesla does not even have an AM radio as electrical vehicles and AM do not play nice together, HD provides incredible sound quality on HD1 and the ability to listen to AM stations on the sub carriers. With no HD there would be no 680 News or AM 640 in my vehicle. No one is expecting anyone to go out and buy a new radio for your home. However if your car already has an HD radio, shouldn't all stations in Canada be upgrading to HD as they have in the US? It's only a matter of time until the CN Tower's FM combiner is upgraded as other combiners in the US have (eg New York City). You'll begin to see more and more Canadian radio stations moving to HD in the future. HD is certainly not going away anytime soon...

HD radio has been available in the US market for almost 15 years. In fact most US FM stations now broadcast in HD. It’s only the Canadian market that has been far behind. It’s not new technology and Bell Media and Corus and others are slowly rolling out HD in the major markets. Make sure your next car has HD and you’ll definitely appreciate the benefits.

Many newer cars have HD radios. I have had several BMW’s going back 10 years all with HD. Once you get used to listening to HD stations, you try avoid the terrible sounding analogue ones. And 680 News is so much clearer in HD.
