i heard about this yesterday and looked into it. at that time, it had all the makings of a hoax. if it's true, then the folks at  bell are smiling. note: eastlink cable also serves a few ontario locations.

a lot of advertisers realize frequency sells. what they don't realize is... frequency has a tipping point.

SOWNY » Ed the Sock On 94.9 The Rock Doing Midnights Starting Tonight » May 18, 2023 4:57 pm

as far as people not knowing who "ed the sock" is.... yes, many younger adults might not know, but then again, does this demo listen to all night radio (or any other day part)? if anything, i'm guessing durham radio will use this as another way to market themselves, albeit indirectly, as a "toronto" station. it's nothing new for them. as a result, and in my opinion, it's just as much a promotional move as it is a programing decision.
i would think, as the novelty wears off, it'll be tough to stay in character when those late nights grind on (you're getting sleepy....sleeeeeeepy).
ahhh... going back in time when the  am frequency ruled interactive overnights.

as an aside, is dave marsden's show still on "the rock"?.... yes, i'm living under a rock.

SOWNY » is he gone? » April 28, 2022 1:35 pm

i'm going to try to reach out to him on the show, if need be. it might take an old cross-over hit, after all he reacted to the statler brothers....mmm.. maybe johnny horton or perhaps johnny cash and the tennessee 2? silly geo.

SOWNY » is he gone? » April 27, 2022 8:47 am

good news! geo lives! geo sent me a message, by way of the internet radio station that airs my oldies show. he informed me he's not dead (lol), he's in argentina!

SOWNY » is he gone? » April 26, 2022 7:09 pm

i've been a member of this board for an amount of years i don't want to admit. some of the more high profile, and very active members, are long gone. that said, there's one guy that has been through those years with me (i remember seeing him slipping a chum chart in craig's casket). he listens to my weekly oldies show and commented as recently as last week. i go to message him tonight, before i record tomorrow's show, and i get a notice that he is no longer a member of this forum. i'm talking about "geo". anybody know the story behind the story?

We finished converting to metric in this country in 1985.  If you haven't bothered to familiarize yourself with it after 36 years isn't that your fault?

for the record, this country has 2 forms of measurement. imperial is often used... perhaps we're not "finished" converting ...perhaps. hey, i'm not talking kph. inches/feet are a common form of measurement. why not include them when providing storm alerts?

Funny, I use celcius everywhere except my home thermostat which I've set to display in F.

Well, it gives you more choices to decide what the heat/coolness will be.  20, 21C = 68, 69, 70F.  Two choices versus three.

Wow.  Talk about reviving an old thread.  I saw this and didn't even remember replying.  Then I realized it was from 2015.

In 2019, we moved to a house whose thermostat was set up in Celsius.  Being old enough to be conversant in that scale as well as Fahrenheit, I just left it alone.  Then I found I missed the granularity of Fahrenheit.  I switched it over and it just seemed easier to tweak as the temps in Celsius seemed too spaced apart.  Probably totally in my head, but it just felt better.

And whenever I go to the hospital for my clinic appointments, they weigh me.  The weight is taken in Kilos and then they always switch to pounds so "the old fat guy on the scale" can understand the weight.  It always surprises them when I give them the number in pounds (kilos x 2.2) before they push the button to switch over.  At least I know the old noodle still works -- for the most part.

me too. i didn't remember replyi.... wait a minute... i started this thread... never mind. i gotta go. i've got a (metric) ton of pennies to count.... whatever a metric ton is.

Any heavy song cranked up deserves heavy fines for driving and not being able to hear an ambulance coming down the road.
Long story short, people who drive with loud music are stupid.  Drive with a respectable level, but not loud music.

(I'm sorry, but I just had to)

What about those who crank up the music because of a profound hearing loss?

i operated my leaf blower, the other day, and noticed it wasn't as noisy as it once was (i didn't have to wear ear protection). i then realized the obvious... the leaf blower didn't get quieter in its old age.

It is quite lawful to drive while deaf.  Isn't that why emergency vehicles have all those flashing lights?  Would you believe it's even not illegal (how's that for an awkward phrase) to wear headphones or earphones while driving?

The key is anything that can rob your attentiveness while driving is problematic.  That could be anything from distracting music or radio to that gorgeous pair of legs in the seat next to you.

a few nights ago, we watched him (a 22 year old Paul ) on old re-runs of password (alan ludden et al). paul was a good player and the teeny boppers in the audience sounded like they wanted to "play" with him as well. this was years after his first hit, so maybe the girls screamed on cue.

geo, i hung out with bobby bare (for an hour or so), before mc'ing for him. i introduced him to my uncle (they both shared a mutual friend... albeit not close) by the name of hank snow (hank dropped by my uncle's home in montreal). all american boy will be played. i'll also throw in one by "the hawk" as well... since i had the pleasure of chatting with him, for a couple of hours, leroy by the pride of windsor will also be played. 3 requests... not bad, geo. wed noon, on www.blasttheradio.com. a few sowny members are no strangers to the show.
damn, all this name dropping is hurting my back!
