Very proud to have created all of the imaging and IDs for the Roger Ashby Oldies Show from the very beginning to the very end.

Here's hoping the severance cheque R. Ashby will present to D. Thompson this Sunday will be for a generous amount

SIDE NOTE:     Walking in from the lobby, Bill Carroll's studio (locked) was on the left.     I wanted to sit in Mr. Carroll's chair and leave a note for him.      S. Kowch said that was definitely not a good idea.

Apparently, a tour of the CFRB studios is included. That's really the only part of the prize that interests me.

Approximately twenty (20) yrs ago I was invited to visit CFRB in the St. Clair Ave studios.    The invitation arrived from a gentleman by the name of Kowch,    We had exchanged personal messages on and off this forum and he had suggested that we should discuss "issues" in private . . . issues that weren't appropriate to air on SOWNY.
It was not a lengthy tour, (perhaps20 minutes) and at the end he presented me with some swag (a mug and a lettered bag to hold the "stuff" and similar things I've long forgotten)

Not a big deal for today's media professionals, but it made my day (I am easily entertained)

CP 24 is reporting that a meteor was observed flying over "wah-SAY-gah beach"   Close, but no cigar, as the esteemed founder of SOWNY (and notable author) says
The name of the rapidly-growing community on the south shore of Georgian Bay is pronounced "wah-SAH-gah-beach" (consistent with the nearby Notawasaga River)
Mayor B. Smith was not amused

"A Million To One" and "Young Love" only reached #23 and #25 respectively on Billboard, so I think that's contributed to them being largely forgotten today

YOUNG LOVE by SONNY JAMES - peaked at #1 in 1957.     Tab Hunter's cover peaked at 2, same year

A MILLION TO ONE by JIMMY CHARLES - peaked at #5 1960

Some might suggest that Osmond's 1973 covers of both were attempts to monetize (what was left of) bubble gum

Is important to move cautiously from this point, as the moderator discourages (or outright bans) posts of a political nature.        Are you politically active (or just one of the 1969 Woodstock generation variety of socialists?

Met for coffee this morning w. a few "car" people where the topic of the day was NOT cars (for a change) but rather 1050 CHUM in the summer of '69.     I couldn't participate, having left Ontario for Vancouver in the spring of 1968 (where my "CHUM" was LG73 and the drag strip was in Mission, BC

Specifically, who mouthed CHUM's "Sunday, Sunday, Sunday" drag racing promotions . . . the consensus was that it was Jack Armstrong for Niagara Raceway and (perhaps) Tom Rivers for Cayuga Raceway (and/or possibly also for Windsor/Detroit drag strips)

Input?

They could save close to a million bucks by canning that sniveller, Ron McLean.

For the past 10 years, Ron MacLean's primary employer has been Rogers Sportsnet, which produces Hockey Night in Canada, which simulcasts on CBC and uses a CBC Toronto studio. HNIC advertisers cover his salary, whatever it is these days.

He appears on CBC Sports productions occasionally on a freelance basis. Most would have noticed he had a diminished role at the Paris Olympics as an analyst and not a primary host like he had been for many Olympics in the past.

Is McLean the "sniveller" banking "close to a million bucks" or not?     Inquiring minds want answers

I grew up in the Owen Sound area, within sight of the CFOS towers. The hog reports and the funeral reports were the high point of the day for many people

Death notices, a.k.a. "another one bites the dust" are read on CFOS in a somber tone, daily just before the noon news.    "Dial a Deal" follows the news; clever timing to try to convert grandma's junk into cash to pay for her funeral.

daily reports on 560 CFOS are DEATH NOTICES, not OBITUARIES

An OBITUARY is a biography of someone who has died, with information about their lifetime achievements

A death notice advises the date of death and advises the names of spouse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins, uncles & aunts and also provides funeral service information, when applicable

Big difference
