Who Gets Your Vote On Monday Night? What To Expect On TV & Radio
Every major station will be doing wall-to-wall election coverage on Monday night, including City TV And CHCH.
Regardless of the results, who gets your vote for coverage?
Global's "Decision Canada" starts at 7 PM and runs until at least midnight. Global National's Dawna Friesen anchors the coverage, along with David Akin and Eric Sorenson. Political reporter Mercedes Stephenson will chime in, along with former Liberal MP Seamus O'Regan (an ex-CTV staffer - interesting he did not go to them for the night), one time Tory MP Lisa Raitt, former NDP MP Nathan Cullen and ex-BQ leader Gilles Duceppe on the panel.
There will also be some radio on TV, with Ben Mulroney joining in, while Ben O'Hara-Byrne handles things on Corus radio across the country.
CTV boasts an impressive line up of its own. Omar Sachedina and Vassy Kapelos anchor that network's coverage, which will feature the same panel she has on her Sunday Question Period show, with Kory Teneycke, Scott Reid and Kathleen Monk on the guest list. CTV's political analyst and former NDP leader Thomas Mulcair will chime in, too.
But the reason they may get my attention, beyond Vassy, is the radio half of the TV broadcast. CFRB morning man John Moore and CFRA's Bill Carroll will be chiming in with commentary.
CBC's coverage has an all star panel of hosts: Rosemary Barton, Adrienne Arsenault, Ian Hanomansing, Catherine Cullen and David Cochrane, with other guests mixed in - if they can get a word in edgewise with so many hosts!
Over on the radio is a night-long special hosted by Matt Galloway.
One aspect of CBC's plans is intriguing: its YouTube and TikTok channels will be hosting separate shows answering viewer questions about the results.
City TV has Cynthia Mulligan anchoring, with special guests trying to spin the results.
680's crew will consist of Alex Bloomfield as lead anchor, with their reporters assigned to the HQ of all three main party leaders.
Which one will grab your attention? If you're like me, you'll be tuning all over the place to see what everyone else is doing. The only thing for sure is that it's going to be a long night!

You needn't watch any of them if you are interested in the result.
John Moore informed us this morning (approx 6:40) that the outcome is in the bag for Mr. Carney and that this will be apparent before the votes are even counted in the West.

I will mostly stick with CTV because I like Vassy Kapelos and while I have never been a fan of the NDP's policies, I do like Thomas Mulcair. He is a very good debater and his political analysis and commentary is excellent.

This is my choice as well and for the exact same reasons. Having Moore and Carroll from the radio side on TV won't hurt, either.

I am likely going with CTV but Global is a close 2nd.
In the past Global has done there show from Toronto, I'm wondering if this year will be the same or will they do it in Vancouver.
One thing that always surprises me is no one does there show from Ottawa, not even CBC.
This is a national election and Ottawa is our Capital. I know the location does not matter, but its the symbolism of it.

I will be looking at all of them at some point but likely watch CTV the most. Always tune in CBC for a while, but oddly never watch Global that much. CBC had by far the best set last federal election but went a bit overboard with the animated graphics. In the recent provincial election CHCH in Hamilton did a great job with lots of live reports/good graphics, so it will be interesting to see how they handle federal returns. CP24 will differ from CTV and I will check them out.

I'll be watching CBC News Network and the CBC News Youtube channel.
I'm encouraged by the CBC making better use of Youtube than they used to...

I'll also be checking out the Elections Canada site to see if Greg Brady is coming back to 640 or whether Kevin Frankish will be there for the next four years. I'm sure the latter will be paying close attention to the Ajax riding race outcome!

Latest polls of Simcoe-Grey indicate a likelihood of 51% for the Conservative incumbent and 2% for Mammoliti.

For Global viewers out west (Alberta and BC), each province will be getting extended regional coverage after the national show wraps up, which right now is scheduled at 12 AM ET.

I will do a check in around 9 before going to bed, likely CTV Northern Ontario. Nothing will change overnight, when I am up at 5.30 Tuesday morning, I will check online for national and local results.

I will be streaming CHCH's coverage on . Parrot is another FAST service I use since cutting the cord. On another thread which I cannot find at the moment, a user recommended , if you guys remember who it was, thank them for the tip!

At about 6:30pm the CBC youtube channel has 45K screens watching. It will be interesting to see the full ratings for tonight.

Very impressed with how CTV went from a local newscast to a National show in the same studio. ( at least I think its the same space.) With no real space between shows.

Interesting to note that CFRB is taking CTV television audio, while AM640 and Corus are doing dedicated audio-only coverage from Ben O'Hara-Byrne, different from Global.
While CTV has a powerhouse line-up of guests, there is one big advantage to what 640 is doing - the Bell network has the vote totals on the screen indicating who's leading and elected. Which doesn't help much if you happen to be listening on the radio.

I'll be honest RA. I've been watching CTV's coverage over YouTube, often with my back to the screen. Only every so often do I hear the analysts say that they're pointing to something on a screen. Even then, the analysts explain clearly what they intend to describe, so I'm not at a deficit.
Most will know they are listening to CTV's coverage over the radio. Even on the weekend, when CP24 audio is carried, most of the time it sounds fine, and is easy to follow. I know it's sad, compared to when I was working at CTN back in 2014, when Newstalk 1010 was carrying the mayoral election, and I was waiting to see if further 1010 traffic reports were going to be needed. CFRB was really sounding like they were at the pulse of things, but listenership was waning even then on AM radio. The election coverage was probably WAY TOO expensive to devote time to on AM radio. Now radio sounds like a placeholder.

Sad but true Jody. I will say, though, that there's one other thing that really does not work on TV-over-radio. Whenever they do a graphics update with the changing vote numbers in a particular riding, there's a little "whoosh" sound effect that comes on with a visual wipe effect that's perfect on the boob tube (or in your case, Youtube!)
But on radio, it's never explained and it just sounds weird. And if there's a lot of updates at once, it can be downright awful because listeners have no idea what it is.

I noticed that Stefanie Masotti was anchoring from CTV London tonight for the Windsor news. My guess is that it is for local coverage of the Southwestern Ontario federal election. I know CTV London and CTV Windsor has done this many times during local elections in the past.

Nope CTV's declaration came first because when it was made cameras were showing the crowd at Liberal Headquarters. There was no reaction to the announcement. One of the CTV panelists commented that the crowd doesn't know yet because they are watching election coverage from an alternate source. I chuckled at that.
