The veteran Buds broadcaster went on Twitter/X to blame fans at the game for not giving enough "energy" to the team at Scotiabank Arena.

Many fans shot back that the team is too corporate and the tickets too expensive for an average noisemaking fan to attend.

"Very disappointing": Leafs announcer Joe Bowen calls out Toronto crowd

I do so enjoy the perpetual twilight of this magical thinking.

Remember too that CFRB's programming is composed of a significant number of moonlighting PR professionals, who don't often disclose their ethical conflicts the way they should.

"Police believe it was a targeted shooting."  No guff.  Somebody pulled a gun, aimed, and fired.  What shooting isn't 'targeted'?  Can't stand 'cop-speak'.

I gently disagree on this one. Calling it a targeted shooting makes it different from the person being an innocent bystander or the victim of mistaken identity.

It was still targeted. Just that the target was mistaken. Sometimes police jargon seems awkward, but in some cases it's actually quite precise. I don't think it's unreasonable even for police communications personnel to stick to the police version. The journalist's skill is in translating the somewhat obscure into plain language while maintaining accuracy. Same with science-speak, or legal-speak, or technician-speak, etc...

Who could forget "known to police"? That's another meaning-free duckspeak trope that needs to die.

The big one that bugs me is the irrational need for Canadian news to obsessively search for the 'local' angle in every story.

"Coming up, Canadian star Ryan Gosling wows them on this week's Saturday Night Live, but first here's Lana with weather..."

I know that science communicators are having an increasingly difficult time in communicating science as humanity continues its regression to medievalism and beyond, but can they stop prefacing every response to questions with "That's a great question..."?

No. Every question is not great. Many are terrible. Gracing slow schoolchildren with such praise for their attempts at learning is fine, but not for grown adults.

It would be much more appropriate to respond with "Interesting question, Rob..."

The Simpson trial wasn't good for law, journalism, or humanity in general. It was good for commercial media execs though, and greatly assisted them in paying off their yachts and gaudy McMansions.

The only suitable tribute is this Norm MacDonald montage. Enjoy.

I recall metal band SUNN O)))'s recent release 'Life Metal' prominently featured an 'AAA' designation (on the record only).

Edit - on a related note, record enthusiasts may be aware of a company called Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, which is known for releasing high-quality (and expensive) editions of noteworthy albums. It turns out their record releases aren't quite as analogue as their audiophile nerd consumers were led to believe.

While defending Trudeau and his hated carbon tax increase this morning, John Moore said "No one can deny that the carbon tax works".  It does?  How so?  What evidence is there that taking more money out of Canadians' pockets does anything to fight 'pollution'?  He also parroted the official party line that people get more back in rebates than they pay out, which is utter bunk when everything is taken into account.  Is he auditioning for a job with the Grits when he moves on from hosting a sinking radio show?

No, Moore's on the right track. There are some in the news crying like little bitches about this. They shouldn't be entertained.

Not sure I follow you. He was finished, but only after the news publicly broke. It would strain credulity to suggest that his management at the org were blindsided. He was tolerated until it was no longer 'profitable' to do so, and the CBC has less of a profit motive than other media orgs.

On a slightly different tack, how would you deal with a known abuser as an employer or a co-worker? The Corpse permitted an embarrassing amount of latitude with Ghomeshi, but I suspect it's less of an outlier than it should have been for media overall.

Also helps that their flagship newsman has good relations with some of the unsavoury types currently in charge.
