Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

Here are my thoughts by region. ATLANTIC CANADA: Liberal Sweep. QUEBEC; Almost 50/50 split between Liberals and the BQ. Conservatives may get a crumb or two. 416/905; Liberals 95%. Conservatives 5%. BALANCE OF ONTARIO; 80% Conservative Liberal/NDP 20% MANITOBA/SASKATCHEWAN; 90% Conservative. 5% Liberal/NDP. ALBERTA; 100% Conservative. B.C. Three way split between all three parties. Now that Justin is gone, the hatred for the Liberal Party has pretty much disappeared. The average voter is willing to give Mark Carney a chance. They are willing to rent the Liberal automobile [Minority Government] but are not ready to purchase it. [Majority Government] I am guessing roughly 145-150 seats will be Liberal Red. My other prediction. The NDP will not win enough seats to maintain official party status. This is strictly a Red vs Blue Election. One last request. Please vote. I am sure all SOWNY  members have or will cast a ballot for the party that you believe is the right choice for the future of our country.

I haven't decided yet......

....if I'm going to listen to the election results on 1280-CJTM or 1350-CIRF.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

Mace I will agree with most of your seat projections with the exception of Alberta.  I believe the Liberals can pick up some urban seats.  5 plus or minus.  Also think it will be large Liberal minority or perhaps a small Liberal majority.  If the NDP does as poorly as you suggest then I believe the Liberals will form a majority government.  Also predict that there will be at least 2 parties with new leaders in a years time, the Conservatives and the NDP with a chance that the Green Party finds a new leader as well.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

What I miss on election night is when the networks gave some time each half hour to the local stations. The local stations only had enough time to read numbers from each riding but it was still better then what they do today.

As someone who likes election night. I will have one screen on CTV and another on the Elections Canada website. This way I am able to follow my local riding but still be able to follow the national coverage.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

I believe the same pollsters that Conservatives touted a few short weeks ago, when they were far in the lead.

Those same pollsters now show a strong likelihood of a Liberal majority.

I believed pollsters then. I believe them now. The real question is will Conservatives accept the results? I predict rumblings of wrong-doing similar to the "Stop the steal" nonsense from Fat Nixon since the 2020 election. Hopefully, Conservative supporters prove me wrong and, post-April 28th, they save their vitriol for the real enemy, Donald J. tRump.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

I think the election could be a bit closer than some think.  Looks like there is about 4.5% between the Liberals and Tories right now.  I say the Libs will win with a small majority, very outside chance of a Conservative minority.

Atlantic Canada- Liberal with the Conservatives picking up 2 or 3 seats
Quebec- Mostly Liberal, Tories up to 10-13 seats, BQ way down to about 20-23 seats, NDP likely losing their only riding in Quebec.
Ontario- In Toronto mostly Liberal with the NDP picking up some ridings, 905/519/705 mostly Conservative, but Liberals strong,  Northern Ontario some NDPactivity along with some Liberal and Conservative
Manitoba- Mostly Conservative with the NDP and Liberals a couple ridings each
Saskatchewan- Mostly Conservative
Alberta- Mostly Conservative with the Liberals maybe picking up 3 or 4 seats in Edmonton and Calgary.
BC- Mostly Liberal with the Conservatives second and NDP distant third
North- Couple of Liberals and one NDP

The Green Party may lose their seats.  In Kitchener Centre the Greens could lose their seat to either the Liberals or Conservative.  Sounds like it is a fairly tight three way race.

BQ will not do well in Quebec and lose about 10 seats and maybe more,  the NDP could be reduced nationally to 23-20 seats or less, and Jagmeet may lose his riding in BC.

Still a few days so things could change somewhat.  Be sure to vote!!

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

In my "old age", I'm not very political but here are my two cents.

If the CPC is running an ad with 2 old white golfers and another with former PM Harper then they are in trouble. That's marketing to your base and not going after swing voters.

I will say a very substantial Liberal majority though my heart is with the NDP.

I'll be flipping around the channels and looking at results on the Elections Canada website.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

Actually the ad with the two older guys has been a last minute decision.  The Conservatives are not polling well in the 55+ demo, especially with men.  This is a shock, and supposedly they have had soft numbers 55+ for some time now.  With Carney entering the race the situation has got worse.

I found the 'golf coots' ad quite amusing.

"Hey old white non-union golfers who certainly aren't a parasitic drain on the economy! Please vote for us!"

Have you noticed how distinctly identifiable the voice of a plump lady usually is?

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

To get back to radio for a moment, I was stunned to hear a spot running repeatedly on AM640 Wednesday, featuring the voice of Ezra Levant of Rebel News.

He talks about Mark Carney and questions his qualifications for Prime Minister, indicating he wasn't even living in Canada until recently. The group identified as the sponsor is an organization called "For Canada," a Rebel offshoot.

Given his reputation and what happened at last week's debate, I have to say I was surprised the ad was on the air. But if I'm not mistaken, the station may not have had the ability to refuse them airtime. There are rules during election time that allocate certain commercial time to various groups and I could be wrong, but Corus may not have had any choice but to allow it on their airwaves.

Does anyone know what the rules are in this area?

The Tyee waded into the details of Levant's recent shit-molesting, providing some background other media outlets have been oddly avoiding.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

Thank you for that link, Chrisphen. Levant does what he always does. Creates a scene, videos the scene, posts the scene and then fundraises on the back of the scene.

Same old tired BS by a child who thinks he's a genius.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

I worked in the advance polls in Etobicoke North. This is Doug Ford's riding provincially. Based on what I overheard, the Liberals will win this seat easily.

Forgive my failing on this, but every time I hear the name Ezra Levant I immediately picture Duddy Kravitz. 🤨

About 190 Liberal, 125 Conservative. The NDP might be in single digits.

IIRC Levant once sued Frank Magazine for referring to him as a 'Boy from Brazil'. His assertion was he was not from Brazil. I can't remember if he won the suit.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

I'm just glad my beloved CBC Radio is safe now that I don't think Peter and the Conservatives will get a majority government and close it down.. However, this writing of the Toronto centre has been the dirtiest election between the local candidates of Evan Solomon, Liberal, and Samantha Green, NDP.

Whatever the outcome, the mainstream media's and polling services' credibility will certainly be on display after all the votes are counted.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

I live in London's, working class, east end. I'm working on the campaign for our incumbent NDP member, Lyndsay Mathyssen. We expect to hold the seat. Between Lyndsay and before that, her mother Irene, the NDP has owned this riding for years and years.

I, for one, will be happy to see Tuesday come and put all this behind us, whoever wins.

And apropos of nothing, remember that the anagram of "vote" is "veto." For whatever that's worth...

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

Highest voter turnout in a Canadian Federal Election. #1. 79.4%-March 31, 1958. #2. 79.2%-April 8. 1963. #3. 79.0%-June 18, 1962. Lowest voter turnout 58.8%-October 14,2008. According to Elections Canada, the very first Canadian Federal Election occured between August 7 and September 20, 1867. Perhaps it took days to travel to the polling stations back then. However, there were eight elections between 1841 and 1863 when we were called the Province of Canada.

Congrats to SOWNY member Toronto Mike, who seems to have become a semi-fixture on CNN talking about the Canadian election.

You can see his latest appearance on Monday here.

Well done. A good summation of the Canadian POV.  BTW Audie Cornish was on NPR for many years. The results tonight will tell if the tide has turned.

Re: Election Fun Time: Who Will Win? Minority or Majority?

If one had a talk format, and one needed a fill in host in the summer, you would think one might ask Mike if he would be interested?  He's a good communicator.   He is interested in stuff and makes it interesting.  He is also clearly a little more left - which makes him unique in that space.
