So John Moore weighed in on the Queens Park keffiyeh debate this morning shortly after 7 a.m.
Mr. Moore referenced remarks made yesterday at Queens Park by government house leader Paul Calandra.
Mr. Calandra was talking about facing discrimination when he was a child growing up in Markham,
He said words to the effect that as an Italian Canadian he knew all about discrimination having been spit upon and called wop in his youth.
But John Moore decided to cut the Calandra clip after the Italian origins reference thus leaving out the "being spit upon" and "wop" comments.

Shouldn't Mr. Moore have played the entire quote?

Since when did being 100 per cent accurate become an issue?

John Moore admitted he was caught on a hot mic at 5:45 a.m. this morning.
Moore appears each weekday on CP24 with the Breakfast Television crew to discuss the events of the day etc.
He then slips down the hall to start his radio program.

So as Mr. Moore started his radio show at 6:05 this morning he told his Newstalk1010  audience he'd been the victim of a hot mic when discussing not watching last nights hockey game during his CP24 appearance just minutes before. But that's not quite how he said it.

It would seem he has mentioned the incident just the once & has now put it to bed. Anyone catch Mr. Moore's CP24 "hot mic" moment? Or his mea culpa?

Vassy Kapelos is pretty well known as a fair minded, no nonsense journalist.
I think on that we can all agree.

So I was surprised yesterday during her Sunday morning CTV Question Period to see both Brian Stelter & David Frum tag team during a segment regarding the Trump hush money trial.
Mr. Stelter from Vanity Fair and Mr. Frum from the Atlantic, both leftist publications.  And predictably, their commentary was completely one side-sided. You would think Mr. Trump was being led to the gallows the way these two "guests" carried on.

Made me wonder where is the fair and balanced Vassy we have come to know? And should the network or perhaps she insisted on a guest to counter the "hatchet-job" you know was coming a thousand times out of a thousand from these two?

Vassy where are you?

Bloor was clearly pronounced "blur"

Not terribly close is it?

Perhaps a one-off?

I've noticed recently that several major hosts have a bad habit IMO.
They exhibit an obvious "forced" laugh at even the slightest attempt at humour, either by themselves or a guest.
And it's constant.

Vassy does this fairly often. Even when dealing with a life and death topic she (or a guest) can utter a quip & then guffaw at said quip that apparently tickles her funny bone.
Another well known host that does this phony laugh a lot is Jeff Marek from the hockey world. I listen to his podcast often and 5 or 6 times per show he's off in laugh-land. I think it's habitual with him & it certainly stands out. His isn't a comedy program, & there wasn't much said that was funny but it often sounds that way.

But the worst of all is Amanda Galbraith. She fills in for Vassy on Fridays. She is the original chuckle-head.
A dozen times per two hour show she's finding something amusing and emits a  "school girl giggle".
It's a constant.

It's a negative and means all 3 come across sounding less than serious.
Not good.

I have heard two big name - big market - big station anchors stumble over their own names!

One was Vassy - she was signing off on Sunday & F'ed up her name while saying goodbye to her viewers.
The other was a veteran newsman at WABC New York. His name is Bob Brown. 2 friggin' syllables!!!
From what I saw and heard they were both a bit embarrassed.

Reminded me of the time many many years ago when a veteran guy left me some copy to read on air. Me being a bit lazy didn't check nor proof read & then I came to the following... cold of course..."buffeted it".
Whether he did that on purpose or not I never did ask. But I admit it threw me.

John Moore mentioned the following last week. Said he used to write news copy for a veteran newsman and would try to put the word chrysanthemum somewhere in the text because the old guy couldn't say it. Then he and other staff would gather round & listen then laugh like hell.

Just watched a 30 second commercial on the CBC News channel

There were about-half-a-dozen actors of various genders, ages and ethnic backgrounds who, while smiling & looking "self-satisfied" make the comment "I'm playing with myself"

Turns out it's an ad for Casino Days - an online casino that claims to offer more than one thousand games of chance you can wager on.

The ad aired at about 5.58 p.m. eastern time.

Not funny to me. Kids easily viewing and listening at that hour. How f*cking low can we go?

There was a story going around years and years ago concerning his stint at CFTR.
Several people confirmed it and swore it was true.
Don apparently had a "bowel eruption" while on the air.
Talk about time to put on MacArthur Park!
Anyway I'm sure he handled it like a pro & as I said he sounded great to me

It's the third time I've been asked to take part
First time was more than 40 year ago with BBM
Answered a few questions on the phone & was told my bride & I would both be getting some paper work to fill out

Told the Numeris rep that I'm an avid radio listener. Don't know how often he hears that these days!

Looking forward to rewarding my favourite radio hosts with some love

I will be off to The Morning Rush With Bill Carroll for the next week plus.

John Tory just ain't my cup of tea

Speaking of Mr. Carroll, he was singing the praises on Tuesday morning of Montreal Liberal MP Anthony Housefather, who has expressed his clear dismay & disdain with the Trudeau governments recent action over Gaza. Couldn't haven't spoken more highly of Mr. Housefather for showing "courage & integrity" on the issue.

Then without missing a step, Carroll ended his praises by offering his congratulations to "Mr. Horsefeather"

None of the morning crew at CFRA, including Mr. Carroll apparently caught his faux pas

Well known author, broadcaster & humanitarian Mitch Albom finds himself in a hellish situation in the troubled nation of Haiti. Haiti is leaderless & currently in a state of lawlessness with armed gangs roving both the cities and countryside with little to no police or military opposition. Albom has run an orphanage in Haiti for a number of years offering support for up to 60 children. He's there currently and has absolutely no way to escape the island.

Listened to the 65 year old Albom on with the WJR morning crew early today. Albom says gunshots are a constant outside of his walled orphanage and there is no end in sight to the violence. He slammed his country and Canada for doing nothing. Albom hosts the 4 to 6 pm slot on WJR when not tending to his humanitarian work.

I wish him the very best. It is a terribly difficult potentially life threatening situation

Watching CTV News Channel today & noticed this during a clip with Thomas Mulcair

Upper right corner of the screen showing Saint-Sauveur QB - Mr, Mulcair's residence.

Or is it?

Since when did "QB" become accepted short form for the province of Quebec?

Today?

Depending on whether you are French or English or wish to correspond by international mail the only generally accepted terms are Que. for English & Qc in French. The post office goes with QC as its internationally approved code.

So can we assume that whoever wrote "QB" sounded things out & heard Kew Bec in their head and there you go.

I was working in a newsroom in May 1973 when the Leafs announced they had signed both Salming and Inge Hammarstrom. The info came across the wire & we huddled trying to figure out how to pronounce "Borje" before going on the air with it. Suffice to say we didn't come close!

Those Crave radio commercials for the Borje series are brutal

The same guy who voices the line "I'm Gerry McNamara - a scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs" is the same guy who voices Salming's line about "putting the work in to get the job done".

Can you say low budget?

I met Salming once and asked him for a quick interview. He said he didn't "feel like talking" and that ended that.   Done and dusted in about 5 seconds.

RIP Mr. Salming
