I have to admit I got fed up with the endless repetition on so many TV channels, so I cut out early, knowing there would be no result until the wee hours of the morning. But I did take the dog for a late walk and you know what? Despite predictions of disaster, the coverage on CFRB with Jim Richards and Deb Hutton wasn't as awful as some here thought it might be.
It wasn't the hosts that saved the broadcast, though. It was their guests, which included people like Evan Soloman, Scott Reid, John Baird and many others with actual political experience. 640's coverage, by comparison, was subpar. So congrats to 1010. They were better than I thought they'd be on a very important night in the world.

Had to laugh at the bumper music CFRB used after their 7 AM news, referring to Trump's re-election: "The Bitch Is Back" by Elton John. Not sure how many got it, but it was perfect.
Other bumper songs that radio can use today:
-It's the End Of The World As We Know It by R.E.M.
-The Worst That Could Happen by Brooklyn Bridge
-Goodbye Cruel World by James Darren
They would all be appropriate.

It proved to me that I know NOTHING about Americans or their politics.

I caught that just now and it made me laugh, a bright spot in a dark newscast.

They just played another Elton John song that fits - Madman Across The Water.
Someone at 1010 has a good sense of humour. Well done.

To answer your question RA I stayed up till past 3 a.m. & viewed Trumps speech live.
I gave the old tv clicker one hell of a workout as I visited some channels I hadn't paid attention to in years.
Of everything I saw I will admit that I liked the coverage provided by NBC. They included Lester Holt & Kristen Welker at their main table. Ms. Welker who hosts the storied program Meet The Press looked like she'd seen a ghost as the numbers began to roll in.
NBC was entertaining and really quick with the numbers
From channels 15 (NBC) to 17 (Fox) to 21(CBS) & of course channel 33 which is CNN in my neighbourhood. Then up to 26 (CBC) to see Rosie Barton squirming & looking more and more uncomfortable as the hours passed. Several quick visits to channel 28 (ABC) & then on to channel 61 (CTV News channel).
Around the horn - click - click - click all night long
Well worth the effort
NBC for the win followed by CNN in my books

It got to a point where I went with the very sedate coverage of PBS because they had the highest called scores for both candidates! I always get a charge out of how each coverage can have differences in the called numbers. It's a little like watching a hockey game on 4 channels, with each having a different score.

I agree with Spinning Wheel, much of the information and hectic pace of the TV networks were an overload. I preferred CBC and CTV's coverage. While not as glitzy, they did have some great interviews and conversations with Republican and Democrat pundits, and I appreciated the less frantic atmosphere. David Frum showed up a few times on CBC's broadcast. PBS also fell into this slower and less techie camp, although I didn't watch them as much.
Like I mentioned in another post CP24's results were ahead of everyone else. CTV's usually were as well but they never matched the numbers that CP24 was putting out. CP24 had shades of the old City TV election coverage with reports from a bar downtown filled with Americans who now live in Toronto. Some good comments, at times funny.
CBC did something similar with David Cochran in a Republican watch party bar in Washington interviewing the patrons. They also had "talking to American" segments in and out of commercials with US citizens saying what they were hoping for from the election and for their country in the future. Nice touch.

If you recall the first Trump go-round, you'll recall the fractious (and I'm being kind) relationship with the media and the press. So what happens now? Here's one prediction, which I hope isn't true, but fear might be. We have the next near half decade to find out.

good choices all RA, a few Rage Against the Machine tunes come to mind which aren't suitable as bumper tunes
the song that really says it all for me that could be a bumper is an excellent rock tune by the band The Art of Dying called "Get Through This" which I'm playing cranked up to 11 throughout the day as a remedy for these post election down in the trumps feelings.

It took a long time for CNN and MSNBC to call this election for Trump.
Online!
I heard David Muir on ABC say that he and his colleagues were on the air until 5:30 AM Wednesday morning, when they finally called it for Trump. I think others made the determination earlier, but what a long day.
I remember during one election I worked in TV - I think it was the one with John Turner, because he was based on the west coast, which delayed everything by three hours - we had to wait and wait and wait for results. By the time they tabulated them all, it was well after 3 AM.
We'd been called in to work for our election show at 2 o'clock in the afternoon the previous day.
I'm not entirely sure how anyone stayed awake that long, and worse yet, we were expected to be right back in the next day by noon!

All of the left media is certainly eating crow now. I can't wait to see what Bill Maher has to say, also Colin Jost on SNL.

Jimmy Kimmel was in tears Wednesday night and the gals on The View weren't too pleased either.

There wasn't much good news out of the U.S. this week, but at least Kimmel will have 4 more years of material for his monologues. So looking on the bright side, which is admittedly tough right now, there's that.

Canadian tears will join in when the promised protectionist tariffs are envoked.

This is a footnote to the U.S. election but media-wise, it's interesting to me that the first woman ever appointed to be a President's chief of staff - Susan Wiles - is the daughter of a well known former NFL star and TV analyst. Her dad was Pat Summerall.

Good for them. Their coverage was both interesting and entertaining from what I saw. And no, CBC election hosts weren't upset or becoming unglued at the Trump win.. ...A few "journalists" were trying to portray this because they don't like CBC.
