This goes back to Ginella Massa days on Canada Tonight.  Here in Northeastern Ontario, the Eastlink guide says something about "New, HD, Canada Tonight was a Canadian television newscast which aired on stations owned by Western International Communications from 1993 to 2001. It was produced out of the studio of CHAN-TV in Burnaby, British Columbia." It goes on about two versions of the newscast, blah, blah blah.

That's quite a time change.

As a proud Canadore grad from more years ago than I care to mention, I note that the link above proves that my alma mater no longer trains students for on-air/hosting.  It is a production-only program.  I applaud that because to this day, too many colleges train students for jobs that don't exist anymore.  Canadore has not for several years.

SARCASM ALERT
I've been picking up dribs and drabs about some of my former co-workers who have been sh*t-canned, much as I was 15 years ago next month.  One glaring omission is who from the executive suite -- you know, the six- and seven-figure salary earners -- has been shown the back door.

Regardless, I am a supporter of a national public broadcaster.  The feds waste a lot more money on many more frivolous things.

I don't mind a few ads, as long as they're not as plentiful as on broadcast TV, if it keeps the cost down.
Am I foolish to hope that you'll be able to fast forward through the ads on Amazon?

From what I gather, having read some articles and watching the Tait interview on The National, the nitty gritty on exactly what jobs will be chopped and who will be laid off hasn't happened yet.
That makes me wonder why today's announcement couldn't wait until after the holidays.

On the other hand, I would not want to be programming music for an all-Christmas radio station.

The contact page on its website is dated in at least one way.
Bill Leacock is listed in the Iroquois Falls section. He died in May, 2021. He owned CJWL, which he sold to Vista Radio.  I'm not sure whether it was him or Vista who changed the call letters to CFIF, letting Evanov have CJWL for Jewel Ottawa.

On tonight's "The National", there's a report about the NDP convention in Hamilton.  One woman in a clip is wearing a mask, which in these continued days of COVID-19 isn't all that unusual.  But she has rainbow-dyed hair and her name is supered as "Lulu Larenciel".
"L'arc en ciel" is French for rainbow.

I am also shaking my head, but it is August, and finding local stories isn't easy.  The Ikea opening would, at very least, be a "talker", with the line-up of people to get in.  And it's better than having a reporter storyless.

I keep telling you guys you should move up to God's country.  My Eastlink digital cable package includes KTLA.  Wow! An earthquake and flooding simutaneously.  That must be a media adrenaline rush.
I've been sticking to CBC News Network, for its wall-to-wall coverage of Yellowknife and Kelowna.  The full two hours of Cross Country Checkup was on TV yesterday, and on Friday and last night, CBCNN stuck with it until 10pm, preempting the 9pm version of The National.
