The problem with any of these devices is that they have a broad-band amplifier. If you live in TO, it will be hit with all that RF energy from the CN Tower and FCP - yes First Canadian Place. All those FM transmitters add to the total RF the device has to cope with. So will it pick up Buffalo? Sure, if the CNT and FCP + others were off air

There has been some discussion on World of Radio as to what shape the shortwave transmitters will be in if they were not shutdown properly in the first place. If they were just turned off, they may be toast. Also I wonder what they will be like after they have been off for so long. The discussion was concerning the Greenville NC site but it could pertain to others.
The shortwave transmitters are still off air.

There is a story on the Toronto Star site that says The Agenda on TVO will be coming to an end on June 27th after 19 seasons.
In the fall a new show will be introduced called The Rundown.

The article is pay-walled.

CFCO Chatham-Kent received approval to move to FM today:

91.3 at 1.25kW's. When the move takes place, they will close the nested repeater that is at 92.9.

With this decision, this leaves Southwestern Ontario with only 4 AM stations:
CKWW and CKLW Windsor
CFPL London and
CHOK Sarnia

They could be throwing in the towel with ATSC 3.0.......
Via World of Radio io group:
Line of Sight  04/25

ATSC 1.0 SHUT-OFF...OR NOT? There has been some discussion about a “drop dead” 2028 date for ATSC1.0
which would allow ATSC 3.0 to replace it. The general opinion is that a mandatory shutdown will not happen.
Doug Smith tells us more…

 A couple of notes.....
 I find it very hard to believe the 2028 end date for ATSC 1.0 will hold.
 On the stations' end:
 Converting existing stations to ATSC 3.0 will require extensive new encoding equipment - probably
around $50,000 worth (or more) for each station.
 In many cases, existing transmitters cannot operate at full power in ATSC 3.0.
 (the peak-to-average power ratio is higher -- meaning higher voltages appear in power
amplifiers, power combiners, and filters for the same average power output)
 In some cases this will apply to the transmission line & antenna as well.
 (all that said, with more robust "physical layer pipe"s reliable reception may be had at lower
powers with 3.0)
 Many transmitters cannot be converted to ATSC 3.0, or at least cannot be converted without replacing
the "exciter", at a cost of at least $20,000.
 Often, the links between the studios and the transmitters will also require replacement.
 As more people "cut the cord", retransmission payments from cable systems drop, reducing broadcasters'
revenue.   This of course makes it harder to justify large expenditures.

 On the setmakers' end:
 Patent concerns that caused LG to stop making ATSC 3.0 receivers have not been resolved.
 The current FCC is unlikely to be interested in expanding the all-channel rule to require ATSC 3.0 in
receivers, and Congress is unlikely to be interested in mandating that the Commission do so.  For that
matter, I don't think the old FCC or Congress, from before last November's election, would have been
interested either.

 On the viewers' end:
 People b

According to Glenn Hauser’s World of Radio group, many language broadcasts are just airing music now.
Voice of America channels fall silent as Trump administration guts agency and cancels contracts.

…………………………….

The Voice of America may not live up to its ambitious name for much longer.

Michael Abramowitz, the director of VOA, said in a Facebook post on Saturday that he was placed on leave, along with “virtually the entire staff” of 1,300. The announcement comes one day after President Trump signed an executive order to gut VOA’s parent agency.
Some of VOA’s local-language radio stations have stopped broadcasting news reports and switched over to music to fill the airtime, according to listeners.

Even top editors at VOA have been ordered to stop working, so employees expect the broadcaster’s worldwide news coverage to grind to a halt, according to half a dozen sources who spoke with CNN on the condition of anonymity.

“The Voice of America has been silenced, at least for now,” a veteran correspondent said.

Voice of America is part of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which also runs networks like Radio Free Europe, Radio Free Asia, and Middle East Broadcasting Networks. Those networks are also on Trump’s chopping block, as networks’ contracts with the operators have been terminated.

While Trump allies argue that the broadcasters are bloated and outdated, advocates say that by dismantling the networks, the United States is ceding the airwaves to China and other world powers, thereby harming American interests abroad.

The United States has been funding international news and current affairs coverage intended for global audiences for decades. Both Republican and Democratic leaders have supported the attempts to promote accurate news — and democratic values — in places that are saturated by foreign propaganda.

The agency’s mission statement, codified in law, is to “inform, engage, and connect people around
