At 1500 watts, they are going to lose a lot of coverage area. They should have gone for more. 560 covers all of Georgian Bay and the Bruce peninsula.

The CRTC is not blocking multiplexing. Global is doing it in Kingston and Peterborough

Americans embrace OTA much more than Canadians. I think there are a few reasons for this:
-in most any given market, there is so much choice
-there is value add to receiving American stations with an antenna. They get all those sub channels and broadcasters have so much material to choose from.

It is not the same in Canada. OTA is treated like a necessary evil. Broadcasters have not embraced sub-channel broadcasting. Heck even with-in the same company, they do not use it to broadcast sister networks.

Broadcast facilities are getting up there in age. If one were to look at CTV, towers in Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury etc are some 60+ years old. To convert these to HD [they are still analog] would mean installing a new antenna to bring them in-band. That would mean replacing the tower. Will it happen. No. But CTV transmitters in Bobcaygeon and Severn Falls are relatively newer so they will stay for the time being.
As time moves on, more an more rural transmitters will close leaving OTA reception only in large centres.

If they wanted to save some $$ they could turn off OTA transmitters in places like Cloyne and Chatham-Kent.
I am sure not many are watching these transmitters. Why should Cloyne get a repeater but much larger centre's do not [Yes I know why]

There are many pointless ‘channels’ that have lost their way and should be shuttered. HLN, CMT, OLN and MUCH come to mind. Incidentally MTV2 closes at the end of this month.

I think they should have applied for more power. CFOS covers so much area during the day - all of Georgian bay. It comes ok here in Peterborough during the day.
1.5 kW will only cover the town, or as they say, the area they are licensed to serve.

Indeed. Since the hack, the radar map on the HD channel has been missing on the 10s. It was the most useful future especially for those of us who don't live in major centres.

I miss it too RA. I use to wait at the store on Tuesdays for the new editions to arrive.

My sister collects them. I go through them to find movies I have not seen. You would be surprised what movies were aired which are not easily found today.

Sadly TVG would not make it in today’s world. Much of my  I
Viewing is streaming based. I am close to closing my traditional tv provider.

This is a great show and I try to listen to it every day. Rita was great but now Amanda is too. So what has Rita been doing for the last two years?  I guess we will find out tomorrow.
I wish the show would go back to its two hour format which the corp cut “because of budget cuts”. How expensive is it to run a call in show for another 60 mins.?

I wonder if the new owner ultimately wants the frequencies and has contingency plans to relocate to new premises with much simpler systems. They already have a site in Windsor, though I have no idea if they own it or if it's feasible to also accommodate an AM.

If they want to move the transmitter site, I think that would have to be part of the application

Because of the surrounding dwellings I would think it will be brought down one section at a time using the gin pole, just like they did with the old CHEX tower.

Another 50 KW albeit directional AM station off the air. Since June three AM stations in Ontario. CJBK London, CKPC Brantford and 1310 Ottawa. Does not bode well for the future. I wonder how much the land where the transmitters are located is worth.

CIWWs towers are right beside the 416. The land would probably fetch quite a sum

It was an interesting program listening to all the staff who work and have worked there over the years. What a shame BBC World Service no longer broadcasts to North America using Wooferton [or any other site] Today's transmission proved that the technology still works just fine.
Listening to the loop of interval signals at the end of the show brought back some memories!
