Changes coming in Kingston?

Today on Facebook 102.7 Wow FM posted that there would be a change starting Monday.
It's a... BOY AND A GIRL! 👀 Coming to WOW FM week day mornings starting Monday! ⏰ Don't worry Big G and Matty are still in #YGK we will let know more details soon!
In the comments it mentions We think you'll really like them. If not, we recommend BIG G and Matty at their new home, or Reid and Ben! So it sounds like MBC has taken over the stations in Kingston and Brockville, or will be as of Monday. I believe Jon Pole had posted recently in a post here that he tries to take over stations near the end of the month and usually on a Monday so it would make sense if they are taking over staring Monday, which would mean that this station will shift to focusing on the American audience as per the conditions upon approval with the CRTC.
What are your guesses for the 4 Bell stations MBC takes over?

Re: Changes coming in Kingston?

Seems clear that 98.9 stays Country with Big G and Matty. I’m guessing 98.3 keeps its format and reverts to FLY-FM branding.

There’s no condition for WLYK to serve the US audience. The CRTC used the word “should”.
They’re very  intentional with the difference between the words “should” “shall” and “must”. They have no jurisdiction over it anyway.

From the decision In response, Mr. Pole and Mr. Dickson stated that the acquisition of WLYK-FM occurred before the Bell Media acquisitions and that the process of branding had already begun. They indicated that they would revert WLYK-FM’s programming back to target Cape Vincent once the Commission renders a decision on the acquisition of the two Kingston stations.

They can’t “revert” it back to serve Cape Vincent. It never did. They said the right thing, but they don’t have to change anything.

I've been to Cape Vincent and Watertown. It's really wild that a small Canadian city like Kingston is the big smoke and the neighbouring US towns across the border are the underpopulated hinterland.

Good point.... I would assume so

Re: Changes coming in Kingston?

I would assume Brockville too. I was listening to bounce on iHeart and it stopped playing at midnight. And I can’t get bounce or move to play on the app. The website also shows no song info since midnight. Kingston is fine as is currently for Move and Pure.

Re: Changes coming in Kingston?

In Kingston
98.3 is now FLY-FM with AC
98.9 is New Country 98.9

In Brockville
104.9 is now MYfm
103.7 is now Classic Rock GIANT FM

That makes sense, now that they also own Welland's Giant FM.
Are they simply playing Welland's playlist? Or is the music different?

https://www.giantfm.com/  still takes you to 91.7.  I can't find a link to the new Brockville station.

The former brands were all bland... no doubt about it... but I'm not sure you can say "New Country 98.9" is very cutting edge either

It doesn't need to be. (talking more about the visual representation than the brand itself)

This one actually communicates the frequency....how novel...still the most important aspect of any radio logo.

What, where, how - are all there. Before - arguably none of those.

Re: Changes coming in Kingston?

If my math is correct, was MY not near the end of the approvals?  They appear to be the first to get going?

How is that?

Read the decisions, the CRTC doesn't stipulate when the transitions occur, I imagine the owners all had to negotiate it with bell

"Where".. admittedly I never noticed that none of bell's station logos have the city name included.... good observation, I wonder why that is

However, the frequency was in the old logo... albeit barely

I'd argue that "99" doesn't communicate the frequency at all in 2025 -- that's the biggest part that makes the logo not even look like it's for a radio station.

By that standard, the only major Toronto stations that pass the test are CBC Radio 1 and 680, nobody else mentions "Radio" or "FM" in their logo...... CILQ, CFNY, CIND, CHUM, CFXJ, and so on...

My Broadcasting is running a survey about its new Brockville stations with a $100 gift card at a local pizzeria if you're the lucky winner. You can see the questions being asked here.

What the heck is HomeTown TV 12 and why is their journalist being blatantly biased? "(MyBroadcasting) is committed to delivering high-quality local content and engaging programming." Yuck......

What I meant by that is that “99” is useless in identifying it as a radio station, not the lack of the word radio.

The bias is just republishing press releases without doing any actual journalism

Re: Changes coming in Kingston?

From what I see -

The answer is - it was taken from an email we sent the advertisers + a bit of writing.

I would be more than happy to answer any of his questions
