A lot of bizarre hires there recently..... maybe a format flip is imminent? Their ratings have been declining for years now.
The playlist is as bland as plain rice maybe a dash of salt.

What are they doing with the CTV2 Channels? Honestly, living in Barrie and the local CTV2 channel is so sad. Besides a few good shows its just infomercials and lucky if you catch the news. I drove by the station one day during the week and maybe 3 cars in the parking lot. Sad.

Yes, but with a Canadian twist. The old USA Network I used to watch on my C-Band satellite dish decades ago was really good, making a lot of its own shows. Now it's mostly reruns of the various Law & Orders. Hope the Canadian one is better.
Yes they had a great show called "Silk Stalkings"!

Im still wondering why they left their UHF Channel 55 CBC French antenna mounted on the CKVR tower in Barrie since 2011, not on the air. Its in the middle point of tower (white checkered wrap-around panels)

How old is that picture? That looks like the ch. 3 bat-wing antenna on top.
It is from then, but I live in Barrie and can confirm the Channel 55 UHF wraparound antenna is still on the tower.
Also the new digital CKVR antenna atop made the tower look much shorter than when the batwings were up!

When I was up in Ottawa a couple of weekends ago, many of the signals from the Camp Fortune site were definitely at reduced power, presumably from auxiliary antennas or sites while the CBC antenna work was underway. In addition to the four CBC stations, that site is also home to commercial stations on 93.9, 94.9, 100.3, 104.1, 105.3, 106.1 and 106.9, as well as most of the TV stations in the market.
Thats almost more than the # of CN Tower stations!

Come up to Orillia! Where Buffalo stations are almost like locals. The signals seem to be funneled and enhanced by double lake skip across Lake Ontario and then Lake Simcoe. Drive along Hwy 11 from Barrie heading east-northeast along the waterfront and you can easily get the Buffalo superpowers on any decent car radio.
In my driveway I can get WDCX in HD more than the nearby local in Bracebridge. Almost all of the Buffalo stations have been easily received in my house with the exceptions of 93.7 and 104.1 as locals are on these frequencies. I have a large Televes antenna on my roof and can also receive most of the OTA TV stations from Buffalo as well. Its definitely a strange anomaly enhanced due to my location as I live at the highest point in Orillia with clear line of site of Lake Simcoe.
I noticed this driving on highway 11 even the Toronto stations stay stable but once you get past orillia they die off. On the 400 Toronto stations will get to about Mt St Louis ski area and once you turn the hill they die off because of the hill (near coldwater) if it wasnt for the hill it would travel into Muskoka for sure.

Speaking of USA Network, back in the 90s CKVR Barrie had USA Network made tv shows being aired.
Silk Stalkings
Renegade
Pacific Blue
Monday Night Raw
How would they obtain these shows back then and no other channel here?

We're very lucky we only get the remnants of hurricanes here and tornados in Toronto are rare, as well. But I wonder if anyone here has ever been forced to work at a radio or TV station when all hell was breaking loose outside weatherwise?
It never really happened to me, except for having to stay for coverage of a few massive snowstorms. There was one night I briefly thought about sleeping in the station's tape library instead of trying to venture home. Fortunately, most of the way was on the subway, which was not affected by the deluge of flakes. So once I trudged to the nearest station, I was almost home free.
But there is one scene I will never forget. We were doing the 6 PM news after a huge summer rainstorm, something of a record setter. They were showing viz of the various flooding scenes around the city, taken by various camera operators who fanned out to catch the worst damage.
And that's when I saw not only my neighbourhood, but a street about two blocks from where I live. The pictures showed an almost unbelievable scene of water over the tops of cars and a nearby Esso station on the corner with flooding halfway up the pumps. It was stunning and while I got through those newscasts, the only thing I could think of was my house and my basement - and what I was going to face if I could even get home.
I can't explain it, but when I arrived hours later, my place was thankfully untouched by the damage and there wasn't a drop of water anywhere in my house. But seeing the neighbourhood you live in pictured on your TV screen when you're very far away from it and not knowing what's happening is an indescribably disturbing feeling.
I can only imagine what the people in Florida are going through. Was this from back in 2012?

CBLT is still on the CN Tower. They moved from VHF (5) to UHF with the transition to digital.
They operate on UHF channel 20 (actual RF channel) but still use the "virtual channel" channel designation of 5.1
Their channel 5 VHF antenna was located immediately above the original FM broadcast antenna on the CN Tower mast
Since they were no longer using the channel 5 VHF antenna, it was removed, which in turn created space to install a new FM antenna used by the FM radio stations
Im guessing upon removal it goes all down the skypod, thru the restaurant and down the main elevator to the scrap?
