That would almost be an example of a Toronto Station needing fundraising to stay on the CN Tower lol

This is the SIRA UHF TV Antenna system that was on the one of the near top faces of the tower (iirc it was on the north face, just below the top mount of the tower). The frequency range of the antenna was sufficient for CITS when originally on RF 36, and also for CHCH when they moved to RF 15 for digital in 2012.

After the ATSC 3.0 re-pack, CITS was re-assigned to UHF 14. The antenna was able to handle UHF 14. T
In both situations, CITS and CHCH used mask filters for their signals, and were on a combiner. CITS also had to purchase a specialized filter to avoid causing potential interference into wireless/cell spectrum at the lower end of RF 14 ( Thanks to Mr. In Phase for explaining this filter requirement to me...) A recently retired engineer from CITS used to joke that it was "their North Korean missile launcher"

The side mount of the antenna was required due to CITS originally being on air as RF 36 UHF, while CHCH was still on RF 11 VHF.  Later when Toronto 1 launched, their Hamilton re-transmitter was on RF 15 UHF, and Craig / Toronto 1 were able to combine their signal and use the CITS antenna.

After the demise of Toronto 1 and Sun TV, CHCH was able to obtain the RF 15 UHF assignment, and use it for their digital transition.

Both CHCH and CITS maintained their same RF assignments and power levels for the move to the new tower in Flamborough. CHCH chose to purchase the same model/series of the SIRA UHF antenna, largely because they had experience with it and performance would be predictable, The new SIRA UHF at Flamborough is Top Mounted, instead of Side Mounted like it was at Stoney Creek.

CHCH Alvinston re-transmitter also use a SIRA UHF panel type antenna. Again, due to the ATSC 3.0 repack, CHCH-DT2 was re-assigned to RF 14 UHF. The original RF 51 UHF antennae at Alvinston would not function at the lower UHF frequency. The Alvinston SIRA is side mounted. While the original CH 51 top mount antennae is still in place at Alvinston, the

These last pictures are of the original "tower" built in 1954. The tower just dismantled was built in 1960 when CHCH disafilliated from CBC to become independent.
The 1954 installation is based on a unique Canadian design, the Wavestack,  by RCA in Montreal.  The "tower" was actually steel pipe, which had a paddle probe at the bottom to excite it as a waveguide.  At the top, the cylinder had resonant slots cut into it to give skull-shaped pattern.
When colour TV arrived, the bandwidth of the cylindrical waveguide was inadequate at the higher frequencies where the colour subcarrier information existed, so coaxial cable was retrofitted to the outside of the cylinder, and connected to the slotted antenna at the top.
RCA made these antennas for the entire VHF band.  The Channel 4 version (Sydney, Nova Scotia) was about three feet in diameter.

Great info - I also remember the RCA Turnstile antennas "batwings" used for low band VHF - CKVR used one.

Im even worried about channels like CTV2 Barrie, which used to be vibrant local channels under the wrath of Bell Media now - it just runs Seinfeld and pointless shows and now even less local news.

The FM signal will be mostly for Owen sound and area maybe as far as Collingwood to the east due to the escarpment (blue mountain) it wont reach as good as the AM one.

Once every ten minutes is too little for you?  So you don't want any songs back to back?

Everytime he did a break he didn't go to commercials.  And he also spoke over some intros of songs so he had lots of songs back to back. When I heard him, it was a bit closer to what he did years ago on CFTR.

So he's hitting posts well. Good to know, but also expected from someone in the biz for many many years.
It does surprise me that he's not on CHUM or Virgin (better for CHUM) to cover his voice in the Toronto market.

Bell Media would just get rid of him in the end anyways.

My new car came without an option for SiriusXM or a test period, and although I think the radio operating system in it (beware of Mazda 3s!) is horrible, I'm grateful for the lack of the satellite option. There was no way I would ever subscribe to this service, but like Forward Power, I've heard they never stop bugging you to renew. Who needs the constant huckstering and hassles?

Love the Mazda 3!

So do (did?) I, having had three of them over the years. The old kind made it easy - six AM choices and 12 FM on the radio, with a tuning and a volume knob. You could change stations or tune manually without ever looking at the radio.

Not with the new kind. True, it has a "favourites" screen where you can pick the stations you like, but forget manual tuning while you're behind the wheel. To get to that particular menu takes so long and so many screens, you'd definitely have an accident if you tried it in traffic. Plus they have this round "Commander" joystick that is very awkward and the number of menus you have to go through and then click through to get to where you want is absolutely absurd.

So I agree with you on the Mazda 3s - of old. The new ones are a nightmare, A classic case of improving something so much, you made it almost unusable. I find it happens a lot these days.

I still have the older one (2013) bought new and yes it has the older school radio with the knob and center tuning knob.   Reception is decent.   I think all the newer cars have the same menu touchscreen stuff so its not just Mazda.  Actually from what ive seen, the Mazda one is still the one thats nicely put together let alone the car itself.  Its great and fun.

However in the car rarely listen to radio itself its mostly my streamed music.

My issue with it when I had it for free when the car was new and still persists today (except not when using the actual Sirus XM phone app) is the horrible sound quality.  Its like a bad MP3 from back in the day with the low bitrate distortion.  Literally  hurts my ears and is worse when played on a good system.

So Dan is midday on Bounce's 25 stations across the country.  Did he say when this starts?  I noticed that Bounce is mostly in smaller to medium sized markets with Winnipeg, Hamilton and Kitchener/Waterloo being the largest.  Tarzan should be a good addition with their 80's, 90's, and 00 music.  I certainly will be tuning in to listen.

Dont forget Barrie/Simcoe County and into the Muskoka's at 104.1 which used to be "The Dock"

There is also a 107.5 FM station in Barrie. I am not aware of how far their signal reaches south , I do know Rock 95 can be heard into the north of the GTA . https://1075koolfm.com/

Both 107.5 from Barrie and Rock 95 are directional and fade once south of Steeles Ave meanwhile 93.1 booms into the city.

Suggestion:   dig your golf kart out of the snow bank and tune it to FM 93.7 which is another Bayshore entity.    You might be pleasantly surprised to catch a strong signal in Midland (across Georgian Bay with little to interfere w. it)

Well at least it's still owned by an independent radio company-so still staying true to the "indie" spirit. Hopefully they take the station in a more Adult Album Alternative (AAA) direction, this would fill a true niche! You could go from: 10,000 Maniacs to a great contemporary singer-songwriter like Ray LaMontagne to perhaps a lesser played Hip tune then to some Massive Attack. Many cities in the U.S. have such a station, it's time for Canada to catch up.

This would be a great format!  The closest to this is iheartradio's streaming station called "Freeform Radio".
