Are the old CHIN AM towers on the island dismantled, or are they just out of service?  While shipkeeping on Toronto's shipping channel in 2016, those tower lights always seemed a friendly beacon as I would sit in the officers' dining room.

IIRC that is/was an OPP communications tower

The OPP tower is east of the former CHIC 790 site, now CHLO 530 (located between the 6th line and Trafalgar Road).  FWIW, that site has quite the history.  CHIC 790 had a 10 tower array at the site. It was also the original site of CFNY-FM (formerly CHIC-FM after moving from 2 Ellen Street in Brampton) before moving to the CN Tower.  I believe it is also the site of the failed application by Evanov to move CIDC-FM closer to Toronto.

Big strong wind blow very fast!

Of course I mean the powerful windstorm experienced by a large swath of southern Ontario in May 2022. I don’t remember what date, but it might have been Victoria Day weekend.

That Derecho did quite a number in certain areas.  It almost looked like a dark curtain rolling in and the winds were nuts 

I remember that storm. I was home when it happened that weekend and was watching it inside from my back patio door.

The thing I remember most was there was a sudden and expected 'wall of white' that rushed by right in front of my eyes and I had no idea what was happening. You could not see anything outdoors while it was going on, although it was quite noisy.

It did not last long and things cleared up pretty quickly after that if I recall correctly. That's when I first heard the term derecho. (Up until then, I thought it was one of the Marx Brothers!)
