This is really bizarre but I just listened to the HD 3 on 95.3 FM which used to carry CHML and the RDS still lists the station and they are carrying the static from the AM signal from AM 900. Someone asleep at the wheel or is this a statement.
i came to say this, i was playing with my HD receiver an hour ago and the 95.3 FM HD3 is still active and still playing static!
i wonder if its a AM tuner they had set to 900 at the FM site... and i wonder if it has been picking up any DXing lol!

It's not. It's the STL's dead air.

Why 108? Two football teams. Not a place to count on for Rock. Sports radio it is. Go to 97.7 Htz FM if you want Rock.

I'm genuinely curious to know what you expected to hear other than static/dead air. The station ceased operations, I'd expect nothing but static.

They're talking about the static on 95.3 HD3, which is rather odd.

I'll take your word for it, I don't have HD radio. But if that was the subchannel dedicated to CHML and CHML no longer exists, what else would be there other than static?

Very generous of Corus Entertainment to not have a gag order clause in Rick Zamperin's severance package.

There's two very easy options.
1. Get rid of the sub channel
2. Replace CHML with another station
Still static right now with the RDS reading 900 CHML. Does not make sense. Would be interesting if another signal leaked through on the frequency but that has not happened when I have checked. I guess it's pretty much a dead zone.

I like to think the call letters "CHML" now stand for:
"Corus Has More Losses."

There's no such thing as static on HD. It would either be silent or off. So it's actually re-broadcasting static.

It's starting to look like HD could become the next AM Stereo (not in a good way). In the U.S. they are now testing radio over ATSC 3.0 UHF signals.
On paper it appears that the coverage of the Michigan test beats all of the HD signals. WOMC-HD-1 and 2 breaks up in Sarnia as you drive. I have heard WOMC's standard FM broadcast in the London area many times.

At 190,000 watts, I can see why WOMC could be heard in London.

Same with Erie’s 103.7 signal. Except it is at 50,000 watts. Another example as well is WQLN 91.3 from Erie.

Guessing if Corus has all their subchannels assigned, they won't move or duplicate one to fix this. Also guessing if their HD channels in each market are managed locally, well, the Hamilton engineers aren't around anymore to remedy this.

I am not overly familiar with the Erie radio market. Are 91.3 and 103.7 the only FM's that can be heard in London on a regular basis? 103.7 gets into the GTA under tropo conditions and I once got a Country station on 98.9 mixed with Rochester.

If band conditions are favorable it is not unusual to receive WOMC in London, unfortunately their 190 kw is on a relatively short tower which limits the signal's distant range. You can to some extent increase power to make up for a shorter tower but height still gives you the long distance range.

91.3 and 103.7 are the 2 FM's that can be heard in London under clear conditions. Sometimes the Detroit/Windsor stations can overtake the Erie stations such as 93.9 and 97.9. I know I picked up a station from Rochester last summer on 97.9 which was rare.

Oops! That was a typo. I meant 98.9. The Buzz was mixed with the Erie Country station. I have only heard PXY in the GTA once or twice and that was due to exceptional tropo conditions.

I heard 100.5 WDVI in the GTA also from Rochester NY which was an Hot AC station before flipping to Country sometime ago.

Oddly coincidental that CHML "went dark" on the 21st anniversary of the big blackout.

And it's situations like the blackout trhat make local radio so important. The day of the blackout I was listening to CBC Radio I. But their local London program was unavailable and we were getting the feed fro Radio I in Toronto.

CBC Radio in London aired local Toronto programming outside of the Ontario Morning slot prior to 2015. We always got Here & Now.

When I was out in Oakville earlier this week, there was no static on 900 and I heard muffled pulsating voices on the frequency. Unfortunately, not strong enough to identify. Has anything appeared at night?

From Kawarthas I have heard IDs from three: WABY Watervliet NY (Rock-pop); WKDA Franklin TN (adult standards), WURD (African American talk, possibly also the one with jazz. I haven't set up my outdoor antennas yet for the coming AM season, or done any serious listening. These just from quick moments on a portable. One London DXer also heard a Georgia African American gospel station. With CHIN running daytime only on 1540 at night, a few of have heard ZNS1 from Nassau Bahamas. Last night they were running African American gospel music.

In addition to WKDA and WURD being there most of the time on 900, In Toronto I've been hearing a lot of WFIA Louisville at 6 a.m. with religious programming. WKDA for me seems to to be most dominant during the nightmiddle. And as I type this Cuba (Radio Progreso) is in there with the same programing as on 890.
Other 900s noted since CHML stopped coming down for breakfast: WCPA-Clearfield PA, WJWL-Georgetown DE, WACA-Laurel MD and WKDW-Staunton VA
