Re: Why Is This Cable Station Allowed In Canada - & Does Anyone Watch It?

It turns out, some are not just pulling the Russian stations, they're adding Ukrainian ones. The companies doing it aren't the big ones - VMedia and toober - but the latter's app is available on Rogers and Bell and can be used to watch some of the besieged country's surviving TV stations online.

There are also a few stations available on Bell Fibe.

All of them are being provided free of charge.

They're almost certainly not in English but given the devastation, these pictures don't need a thousand words.

Canadian carriers add Ukraine channels to basic packages

No, that was a lie spread by dimwitted political tribalists.

Lead paint was a popular snack amongst children because of its sweetness. That doesn't mean it's good for them.

The BBC has taken to the so-called "Deep Web" in order to make its info available to Russians, who are being prevented from accessing the truth about what's really going on in Ukraine.

Re: Why Is This Cable Station Allowed In Canada - & Does Anyone Watch It?

The CBC is among many large networks that have been forced to stop reporting any news from inside Russia, after the Kremlin quickly passed an edict making it against the law to report what they term "fake news" about the Ukraine war. The penalty is an immediate 15 years in prison for relating any but Putin's side of the conflict.

"In light of this situation and out of concern for the risk to our journalists and staff in Russia, we have temporarily suspended our reporting from the ground in Russia while we get clarity on this legislation," a CBC statement reads.

It's just another crackdown on freedom that had been regained there after the collapse of the Soviet Union. But that doesn't mean they won't keep covering the story from the outside. You just won't get much reaction from Russians, because no Western reporter will be free to safely tell the truth about what's going on inside that autocratic dictatorship.

Re: Why Is This Cable Station Allowed In Canada - & Does Anyone Watch It?

This will maybe motivate Canada and other countries that have pulled out of shortwave over the years to at least rebuild some shortwave transmitters for contingencies. RCI dismantled its shortwave array outside Sackville, New Brunswick several years ago, and sold off the land, so we have no capacity to restart shortwave transmissions the way the BBC has.

From the Toronto Star:

Russian-language propaganda stations spread hate in Canada for Ukrainians, say critics

There are several Russian language shows on CHIN Radio, although I have no idea what they're saying. I'm hopeful they're on the right side of all this. But unless you speak the language, how can you tell? Is the station monitoring what's going out over its airwaves?

Re: Why Is This Cable Station Allowed In Canada - & Does Anyone Watch It?

Hackers have attacked the so-called "Buzzer" station, an infamous and very mysterious radio signal that's been coming out of Russia for decades. But what does the actual station do? No one in the west seems sure.

Who’s behind the Buzzer? The chilling mystery of Russia’s ‘ghost’ radio station

Meanwhile, in an almost unprecedented and stunning series of developments, several pundits have appeared on Moscow's heavily censored TV stations criticizing Putin's unconscionable foray into Ukraine. Some very rare moments, indeed, and perhaps the first sign of an internal revolt?
