His name is Lamont Hollywood and up until Monday, he was the longtime morning co-host on a San Francisco radio station. His sudden dismissal in the face of cutbacks after 37 years on air prompted him to post a blistering Facebook message against the corporatization of radio - in this case Cumulus - which he says is more interested in money than running decent radio stations. 

And he doesn't mince words.

"For years, giant corporate conglomerates bought up hundreds of radio stations using massive leverage, only to spend the next decade slashing real human talent, gutting local newsrooms, and replacing live voices with syndicated feeds and automated voice-tracking just to pay down interest on executive balance sheets. Oh , and to preserve executive salaries and bonuses.

The suits in corporate headquarters treat a radio station like a spreadsheet, completely blind to the fact that radio was built on authentic human connection, community trust, and undeniable personality. They think they can algorithmically automate decades of trust, local flavor, and real intimacy with a community. When companies gut the very voices that give a station its identity, they destroy the soul of the medium and push loyal listeners away."

Not sure if he's blown any chance of ever returning to the medium with that statement, but I can't say I disagree with him. The problem? Did he just destroy his chance of getting hired anywhere else? That's the danger when you go online and write a screed (even if it's true) against your former employer. Would a new one want to trust you on their airwaves?
