Nice to be able to hear KIXQ-Joplin MO and KKYR-Texarkana TX on 102.5 instead of  Buffalo's K-Hate.

All of the other ones noted by RadioActive were also heard here in 'southern' North York (Hoggs Hollow)

What I thought must surely be The Grand turned out to be far grander - KRQV aka Classic Hits 93 at 92.9.

There was a country station identified as Star 104 at 103.9 but I wasn't able to I.D. it. 

It's been a long time since the skip has been that good for me. Unfortunately, I had to take my dog to the vet for a previously scheduled appt. so my time was limited. He ALWAYS comes first, even during good DX days (Dog days?) But it sure was fun while it lasted!

Nice catches. That was the main area.
KOBC 90.7 was one of three stations in my very first E-skip opening ever way back in 1977.
 

In addition to KIXQ Joplin, I also logged on 102.5  KBLS Fort Riley, Ks, and KKCV Rozel, Ks. I also had 102.7 KLDG Liberal, Ks, 102.7 KJYO, Oklahoma City, plus 96.9 KQOB mentioned above. All logged at Coronation Park in Oakville. My DX-286 worked amazingly well. Several of these stations were received in stereo.

Nice country for a cottage. Years ago my Union used to put on schools up at Chaffeys Locks. I loved it up there.

It's now 5:45 PM. I only just learned about this opening. I just took my radio out onto the patio here in London. I tuned across the band and there doesn't appear to be anything unusual.

Can be like that. Bermuda remote SDR had top of band to NB QC and eastern ON (Ottawa area) a few days ago for a few hours and I had nothing at all...not a hint of skip. I;m between Peterborough and Orillia.

I owe you a longer explanation. I'm frankly exhausted from working this opening. I have enough recordings to go through that I needn't worry about spare time for awhile. Just because one does not have any skip does not mean you're outside the cloud. If the end point is in the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean or whatever body of water, and there are no stations to be heard in the 'received' zone, you won't of course hear any. That was probably my case with Bermuda. Picture a cloud very high, signals bouncing off it. That clud is roughly the midway point benween the signal and your radio. A path from N-S will be crossed by one that's E-W. Think of it as a circle of reception. The other factor is recepption generally extends from 400-1500 miles, with slight exceptions where it's very short or very long, or where two clouds line up magically almost and you get two hops and a considerable distance. We'd have to calculate locations and paths to know your situation. I would not have expected you to get nothing in Kingston ... not in this situation. That's a bit odd but not unheard of.
I can engage further on this. Though I'm no expert on the science. I'm not ready to do that right now; this put me behind a few other things.
 

Really interesting, thanks! I’ve caught things with this radio before (just a Yamaha component system with a wire antenna) and I’m free of buildings, etc. Bit just the usuals at their usual strength.

Hams in Texas yesterday reported QSOs with operators all over central and eastern Canada.

He had Venezuela twice yesterday on channel 2 analog. (Bill Hepburn, who is responsible for the tropo forecast maps).

Wow! That is impressive. And I thought getting stations from the Mountain time zone was good. Back in the 80's I logged KTVS ch 3 in Sterling Col and KDUH ch 4 in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Barrie 3 was a major skip-buster for me as Kawarthas are just east. I could get skip but it took effort to move the antenna rotor 'just-so' to allow a strong-enough skip signal in. Anyhow, the one time I had KTVS CO with a perfect local-like signal was when a small plane hit the CKVR tower many moons ago. It was a tragic incident - several people died.

When the above occurred, I was heading east on Townline Tunnel Road in Welland, about a kilometre west of the tunnel.  I thought that the signal jumping might have been amplified by the terrain, but checking the forum here once home revealed what really was happening.
