Indeedy bbqguy1962. A reimagining of the Secret Policeman's Other Ball with performances by Yungblud, Wolf Alice, Rowan Atkinson , Midge Ure, Gary Numan, the Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Goldfrapp, the reunited Police as the main musical act, and then the surviving members of Monty Python Eric Idle, John Cleese and Michael Palin featuring Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and Billy Connolly filling in for Gilliam, Chapman and Jones would be a wonderful, wonderful thing. I'd kill to see something like it.

Next topic for the pop culture media vultures when it comes to The Engagement: Will there be a prenup?

Also a possible talk radio topic to get listeners calling in. "If you were Taylor Swift would you ask for one?"

It was neat seeing inside the guts of TMZ. Like a tabloid mag version of The Pitt.

Thanks for posting it Brad.

There's a link in this post to the ad-free music available for streaming.

https://x.com/torontolibrary/status/1960326596616659096?t=u6v8f3b4utzTUjV22zrBRw&s=19

If radio hosts are looking for cool topics this fall, the Toronto Public library has a lot to offer.

There's some pretty sharp tech available including recording equipment, computer gear to transfer VHS tapes to disc, free music instruments to borrow. There are useful, interesting courses in business, writing etc.

All free with your library card.

With TPL online there's a ridiculous amount of magazines on practically any topic you can think of along with The New Yorker and other iconic publications.

Not to mention the some of the libraries themselves.. some branches are worth looking at for their beautiful architecture and their place in the history of the city.

It'd make a nice break from the usual city hall chatter while we're waiting for the first NHL hockey games...

Just a quick reminder that, as already mentioned by RA, the once and future? mayor John Tory will be sitting in for John Moore on Monday for Newstalk's MITM show.

As the man himself has been known to say, govern yourselves accordingly.

p.s. Holy moly, we're about a week away from the Labour Day long weekend, can't wait to hear what Boom FM radio has going on for listeners.

On Thursday's first Moore In The Morning roundtable, Newstalk's program director and regular roundtable contributor Robert Turner did what he does best with his observations and thoughts, he both entertains and makes you think about something from a different angle.

During the discussion around Doug Ford's energetic? very vocal public response to the situation with the man now facing charges for (allegedly) attacking someone who broke into his home, Robert breezily and enthusiastically announced that Jerry Agar had just asked to take September 3rd off and without missing a beat Robert invited Doug Ford to fill in and do Jerry's show for the two hours.

I don't think he's joking, or is he?

What are the chances someone from Doug Ford's team was listening to 1010 and relays the invite to Doug.

Could Doug Ford actually end up filling in for Jerry Agar in September?

It would be quite the way to start off the fall radio season...

Cool move Robert Turner.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/digital/top-podcasters-favorite-episodes-biggest-challenges-1236343446/

pretty interesting article from the Hollywood Reporter featuring a wide range of popular podcasts and the brains and voices behind them who talk about their favorite episodes, their approach to building a show and how they think AI will continue to impact the business in both positive and not so positive ways

it's a good read if you want to find a new podcast to listen to, if you're a podcaster or thinking of testing the waters

speaking listening? of which Marc Maron's WTF pod is a treasure trove of great conversations. I spent an enjoyable chunk of time this afternoon listening to him talking with Aaron Sorkin in an episode recorded during the first go round with the Orange One (some of the things they said reminded me of a few posts here on the big yellow board) and Sorkin's Broadway production of To Kill A Mockingbird with Jeff Daniels.

Marc's conversations with Robin Williams, Eric Idle and John Cleese are also really REALLY worth the time to hunt down.

I think John Tory was trying to bring classic morning show upbeat energy and instead just sounded tense. And rushed. For most of the breaks without a guest or the roundtable contributors to talk to, he talked AT the listener, his delivery was surprisingly flat and... overcaffeinated?

Of the two weeks he filled in I tuned in multiple times only to have switch the radio off after a few minutes. And I felt kinda bad about it. There were a few breaks he came close to recapturing the John Tory that had been a solid radio host, when he was chatting about his mom, and generally during the roundtables.

All it would take would be for someone to put together a couple of clips from the morning show of John Tory's two deliveries (flat and hyper vs  radio friendly and approachable) and have John Tory listen to them. I believe John wants to do the best job possible when he fills in on MITM. Airchecks can be uncomfortable for both the on-air talent and the PD but it's usually worth the time.

Do they even do airchecks anymore?

Edit: there's always the podcast available for a proactive special guest host to review and learn from and it'll be interesting to see or rather hear which John Tory fills in on MITM the next time John Moore takes time off.

I hope John Oakley has a super vacation.

This ad came out around the time Jerry was away for his second knee replacement surgery and I suspect he voiced it on the fly in his bathroom or other convenient environment without taking a moment to gather and position the usual pillows and blankets voice actors use to improve the warmth of the sound quality for impromptu voice work.

I hope Newstalk gave the company a discount on the cost of this kneedlessly spotty spot.

this "cancellation" feels like a move in a poker game we might or might not learn about down the road

watching clips from the show on YouTube is one of my fave ways to chill out, particularly the Colbert Questionnaire clips, most are amusing, some are excellent, entertaining and a pretty much foolproof cure for the blahs and the blues and the middle of the night willies.

if the show does end, I hope Stephen will finally give us his own answers to the Questionnaire

I think he's got a lot of options for the next move in his career. A Colbert version of The Actor's Studio with James Lipton would be wonderful. (sidebar: I've always thought John Moore would shine in a similar role.)

Attached is Anderson Cooper's conversation with Stephen Colbert about grief. It gives an idea of the terrific heart and scope of the man working within the corporate limitations of his current broadcast gig. It's well worth watching.

https://youtu.be/YB46h1koicQ?si=H8XsVmlAAP_uJYp9

Finally, wouldn't it be a lot of fun if Newstalk 1010 on-air hosts answered the Colbert Questionnaire as a tribute if and when the show comes to the end of its run.

Came across this on YouTube. It's Ben Mulroney being interviewed on the Quillette podcast, talking about his life, soup to nuts, how he went from law school to working in media, negotiated his first appearance with CTV using his law background, and much more.

He discusses exactly how the Exeter BLM scandal unfolded, the impact the misrepresentation of what went down had on his wife, why he walked away television and what he's doing these days. He doesn't pull any punches.

It feels like Ben's speaking up now not just to clear the air, but perhaps in preparation for a new venture, whether that's on or off the air is up for debate....

Another reason why it pays to have a back-up internal antenna! If your phone and TV service are both kaput due to an outage, you can still watch something on the tube. Otherwise, you're pretty much out of luck for the night - unless you have an old DVD player hanging around somewhere for tonight's entertainment or have a radio to listen to the Jays game.ย

If not, you're pretty much shut out. Not that you'll be able to read this until tomorrow...

I had and used my Chatr data so was just fine watching YouTube etc until the Bell WiFi came back. And I do have an old Sony dvd player that weighs a ton and still works like a charm so my back-up had back-up. Good thing too to because I'm strictly a hockey fan, baseball is several innings too long ... but if and when I get a tv I'll definitely get a back-up internal attena, thanks for the suggestion RA.

Midtown/downtown Toronto businesses and homes that use Bell are SOL this afternoon. Phone systems are hamstrung with companies unable to transfer incoming phone calls to extensions, stores can't process customer purchases, home owners can't access their WiFi and on and on.
