Bizarre 3D Printed Robot Claims To Be Able To Decode Numbers Stations

Ever heard of numbers stations? We've talked about them here before. They're those odd shortwave stations where someone simply counts out a series of digits without any explanation. They've been on for years and are generally acknowledged to be sending coded messages to someone far away. Most think the Russians are responsible but no one knows for sure.

Now along comes a robot whose maker claims can possibly decode those and all mysterious signals that all floating around out there. I'm not sure if it works, but it's certainly a cute little device!

3D printed robot receiver listens and cracks any coded messages broadcast from the world

Re: Bizarre 3D Printed Robot Claims To Be Able To Decode Numbers Stations

Haven't listened to these things since I graduated from university (my last paper was on differentiating pirates and clandestines, and I think I had 'numbers' in the discussion. It'd be interesting to know what if anything of the sort still graces the SW spectrum. I do vaguely recall hearing speculation that some numbers signals were located to Langley VA area. I doubt only one side ... Chrisphen, thank you for that link. Nice!

I haven't heard one on the shortwave bands for around a decade, so who knows if they're still active.

Cool story RA, the cute devices remind me of Marvin the Paranoid Android in Hitchhiker's...

The article also reminded me of episode 6 season 3 of the brilliant tv show Fringe: the writers came up with a perfectly reasonable, super spooky, science based explanation and storyline re: number stations and their purpose.
