SOWNY » WHAM 1180 Rochester noontime anthem » May 22, 2019 8:08 pm

WYRK 106.5 Buffalo plays the National Anthem everyday at noon. They honour and dedicate this moment to a Western New York service man/woman. Nice touch.  Used to always hear it before their signal was taken over by ELMNT.

For most of its history, WSM was owned by the Nashville-based National Life and Accident Insurance Company, along with WSM-TV, and the Grand Ole Opry. The stations' call letters derived from the company's motto, We Shield Millions.

Couldn’t hear 106.5 WYRK today. Tried again tonight and only getting a bunch of static. Sounds like new local station is up and running doing tests on their signal.

Hi Peter !

You and I worked at C.H.S.C. St. Catharines in 1975-76...

I even made at least  one appearance  on your overnight country show and after 40 years I'm going to come clean....my conscience has been bothering me for these last 4 decades....when we were chatting live on air on your show at about 2 a.m. I was under the influence (cold Blue) after a night out watching Winston James at the Queensway hotel. I hope you're not too disappointed in me but I feel certain to this day it just had to have been great radio lol...

Nice to have you with us...

Have you seen  the Youtbue videos that Rick Murray made featuring the staff at C.H.S.C. ??  Lots of the old crew featured...if you haven't seen them give them a look...

New to SOWNY,finding some topics very interesting and informative.
Just some background. Worked in Radio for 11 years. Always say that those years were the most fun and satisfying in my entire working career.
In 1969, I starting out at CKOT 1510 Tillsonburg working for Mr John Lamers Sr and Jr and Robert Lamers (engineer)
In 1971 I was the all night country
jock at CHSC St Catharines for 7 years.(The Midnight Cowboy.) What a fantastic gig,6 hours nightly spinning country music to SOWNY.
In 1977, Dave Charles hired me at CFGM 1310 Richmond Hill. Worked with likes of Frank Proctor, Dave Johnson, Gord Ambrose and Ron Knight.(anyone know what happened to Ron?)
I look forward to participating in your forum.
