SOWNY » CTV Logo at London's Covent Garden Market "Gone". » April 6, 2024 4:16 pm

Yes that's right they removed the CTV logo from the iconic Covent Garden Market in downtown London. Now I did not take a picture because my phone is getting fixed but now Classic Rock 98.1 moved into the space where CFPL-TV did "A Mornings" from the Covent Garden Market until they scrapped the morning show back in 2009. Now I don't know if 98.1 will still brodcast out of their studio on Richmond Row. but I saw someone in the new space when I was there yesterday. So I am beginning to wonder if it was part of the Bell cuts or the Covent Garden Market has cut ties with CTV London.

SOWNY » Ever Wonder Who Picks The Radio Station Playing In A Waiting Room? » March 17, 2024 8:23 pm

My local car repair garage in Stratford has CJCS 107.1 and sometimes 107.7 2Day FM on.

Other busniesses I been in London like Forest of Flowers has 103.1 Fresh Radio on. My friend who works at a sporting goods store has 95.9 CFPL-FM FM96 on or 103.1 Fresh Radio on sometimes. Also I was getting a bite to eat at a McDonald's in London and they had 98.1 CHFI not the local Classic Rock 98.1. I know they were streeming it but it kept cutting out many times. But then a few weeks later I went to that same McDonald's in London and they had 104.5 Fresh Radio from Cornwall on. Another McDonald's in London had 95.5 Hits FM from Bellville on. I don't understand why the 2 London McDonald's I been to had 2 non local radio stations playing at those locations.

SOWNY » Corus Launches New Radio Show Across Ontario, But Not On Talk Stations » March 16, 2024 6:02 pm

Does Joey Castillo has a weekend show slot on Fresh 103.1 in London? I heard him this morning on 103.1 while doing some arrends. I also thinks He does the afternnon drive show on 91.5 The Beat in Kitchener. I cannot stand him. He is not funny and cool. I switch to a different station the moment I hear him.

SOWNY » Spence has Competition » March 10, 2024 5:34 pm

All the time when I am in the Toronto Area I listen to Z103.5, 99.9 Virgin Radio or any other Toronto station. I hear the Spence ads and it is getting pretty annoying with that "Wooooo" sound at the end of the ad. Just like the Matress Depot ad from London which they stole the Spongebob Sqaurepants theme song. If I do hear that Spence ad again I will tune to a different station just like Matress Depot in London.

SOWNY » MTV2 will be discontinued on March 29, 2024 » March 9, 2024 7:52 pm

Over on the Canadian Digital Home site another Paramount owned channel is pulling the plug later at the end of the month. MTV2 will be removed from TV providers such as Sasktel, Telus, and Hay Communications. From the wikipedia article it says: "In Febuary 2024, Hay Communications and Telus announced on their websites that the channel would be wound down permanetly on March 29 2024. This would leave the main MTV channel to be the last remaning Paramount Global channel owned by Bell Media."
We had Paramount Network shut down at the end of 2023 here in Canada now MTV2? Who watches MTV2 anyway. But the american one is staying on. No word if that one will be shutting down too.

I noticed as of this weekend. CING-FM Energy 95.3 tweeked their slogan From "Welcome To The Party" to "Play All Day". Maybe because they dropped that slogan because Corus scrapped the Saturday Night party show called "Turn Up" that was heard on95.3 and other Corus stations such as 103.1 Fresh London, 91.5 The Beat Kitchener, Magic 106.1 Guelph Fresh 93.1 Barrie and 100.5 Fresh Radio Peterborough.etc.

Nice to see that they updated the screen graphics to not promote weekend news in Windsor.  Sadly the person who does that was probably let go.

Sanjay Maru still works at CTV Windsor as a reporter. I think they do all of the on screen graphics out of London. Even the rebrodcast of the 11PM news in the mornings they still promote "CTV News Weekends" on the screen which no longer airs on the weekends. thanks to the "Bell Bloodbath" cuts to these legendary TV stations.

Also part of the cuts. CFPL-TV London video cameraman Jim Knight was a victim of the Bell cuts. He worked at CFPL-TV for 46 years.

CTV Kitchener noon news replaced by a game show, kind of ironic.

Yeah. It is kind of ironic. Did they let go of Daryl Morris who was the news at noon anchor? From what I can tell a few people at CTV London were let go according to what Carlye Fieset mentioned on the night the newscast aired about the cuts. They moved Amandalina Letterio to the 11PM anchor. At CTV Windsor Stefanie Masotti is just the sole anchor on the 6PM news and Ricardo Venenza does the 11PM news. Bell should have NOT bought these TV stations in Southwestern Ontario. Now the only weekend news on TV i will have to watch is CHCH which has an excellent newscast and it is not owned by a big greedy telecom company.

Global did not do a noon newscast on Wednesday. It was replaced by a year-ender featuring the network's correspondents recapping the news of the year. Given that it's now been three days, my guess would be there won't be another noon show until after New Year's. We'll see on Thursday.

No nooner again from CIII and, according to the listings, there won't be one on Friday either. (They've scheduled a rerun of Mercedes Stephenson's "Chat With The Prime Minister" instead.) It's the first time I can recall Global giving their morning staff the entire week off.

Spreading good vibes, saving money on overtime or both? Hard to say, but the same sked notes that the noon news will be back on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Still, perhaps they missed out. This is the one week the majority of people are home from work and could actually watch their noon show. By not doing it, even if low rated, there are a lot of eyeballs that will have never seen it.

Did CTV Toronto air their regular noon newscast?

Speaking of holiday news shows, it's interesting to me the decision each local TV station here made.

None of the big four (CTV, City TV, Global, CBC) did a noon newscast. (City TV never does, the rest do.)

CTV did only a half hour news at 6, and only on CP24, because CFTO was carrying non-stop football all day. They only had in one anchor (Rahim Ladhani) and one reporter (Beth McDonnell) and the rest were pre-taped stories from other CTV stations around the country. There was also no weather person, which is sadly becoming all too common at the station. The 6 was then immediately repeated on CP24, which needed to fill the time. They also announced at the end of the newscast that there would be no 11:30 update.

City TV did its usual 6 o'clock hour long show, but nothing at 5 PM. It also skipped the 11, showing a Christmas choir instead, an annual City TV tradition stretching back to the Colin Vaughan era.

CBC did no news shows, 6 or 11.

And while I believe Global did a National show at 6:30, there was no 5:30 update and nothing at all at 6 or 11. Instead they aired "A Conversation with the Prime Minister" where their 6 PM news would have been.

All totaled, excluding cable, there were only two actual local newscasts on the air in Toronto on Christmas Day. Neither were especially well staffed.

CHCH did not have a Morning show or the 6 and 11 newscasts on Christmas day, CTV London CTV Windsor and CTV Kitchener did not even have newscasts on Christmas day ether. On the other hand CTV London at 6PM had the Celebration of 70 Years of CFPL-TV on Boxing Day which was a nice thing to air. No 11PM newcast on that day ether. I believe CTV Barrie had no news on boxing day? Correct me if I am wrong. CTV Kitchener had a half hour 6PM newscast and the normal 11:30PM newscast. CTV Windsor had no news on Boxing day as well. So you can say that people in Windsor could trust the Detroit news on those days where CTV Windsor does not have any newsca

I lived up in the Owen Sound area when CKNX TV was still an affiliate. CBC ended that affiliation and put two UHF transmitters on the air. I don't know if those transmitteres are still on, or if they shut them down when digital was mandated.

I think I remember the day CKNX TV shut down. Also did you know that Scott Miller the CTV London reporter that covers stories for Midwestern Ontario? He worked for CKNX TV and still is based out of Wingham today. So at least residents still get local TV news coverage for Midwestern Ontario from CFPL's newscasts.

I guess Ad block extensions might be a thing of the past soon. On another hand I noticed that they updated the interface when you watch their newscasts. I will put screenshots to show the difference.
Thanks for the help guys.

SOWNY » Where do you get your traffic reports from? » November 30, 2023 10:27 pm

So in London we only have 2 talk radio since 1290 CJBK shut down in June of this year. We got CBC Radio 1 93.5 FM London and 980 CFPL. CBC London has 2 shows. One locally in the morning for London and a regional show for Southwestern Ontario like Windsor, Sarnia, London etc. On the other hand 980 CFPL AM used to have a non stop all news show where it would report traffic and weather during the non stop news. But they instead air shows like The Morning show with Devon Peacock and London Live with Mike Stubbs who used to be on 1290 before he moved to 980 sometime in 2016 or 2017. Don't get me wrong Devon Peacock and Mike Stubbs are very good show hosts. I think when the pandemic hit back in 2020 and many people were working from home. There were less people on the roads in London and not much to report on unless there was a car accident on Wonderland Road or Oxford Street. So that's why I guess they had to cut the non stop news show on AM 980 CFPL.

So the question is where do you get your traffic reports from? For me I would listen to CBC London's Morning show for Traffic.

This is a similar move of like what Disney did to their channels in the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia asking people to sign up for Disney+ to continue enjoying the shows they love. Surprised that the Disney channels are still on the air here in Canada and in the US. Maybe the shows that aired on Paramount Network will be exculsive to Paramount+? We will have to wait and see.
