I don’t get it. Is every segment done at CTV Toronto and other local CTV stations pre-recorded? Like weather and entertainment segments?

I think CTV2 should ditch the Informercials on weekday mornings and pick up syndicated programming instead.

Last night I caught a post game report from Rahim Ladhani on CP24, making Bell's decision to send two people to Seattle even more baffling to me.

Didn't catch the CTV local news in Calgary, but both Globals local package and CBC Calgary were superior to what their networks do in Toronto. Now I was only there for six days and I only watched a few of the casts but first impressions do stay with you. The radio in Calgary and area was on par and in some cases better than Toronto IMO.
Beware of tourist-ear (to steal a term from RadioAaron). I find I'm much more easily impressed by radio and TV when traveling, mainly because everything sounds so fresh. I wonder if Calgarians would think positively about Toronto media versus their own.
I find I’m generally impressed with Toronto radio, especially the news radio stations. In comparison to what we have in Calgary, 680’s readers are really smooth and keep the whole all-news rhythm going. TV on the other hand I’m not that impressed with (except for CP24). Every TV newscast has some kind of flaw that I can’t really get past.
And regarding CTV Calgary, they consistently put out good newscasts. They even have TWO certified meteorologists, and can muster up full-ins if either of them are away (take notes CFTO).
I know CTV London and CTV Windsor both have certified meteorologists and they share Julie Atchison and Gary Archibald for both stations. For CTV Kitchener they don’t have a meteorologist they instead have a “Weather Specalist” and yes CTV Kitchener had a lot of different Weather presenters over the past years. For London radio AM980 is the only AM station in the city and it is more of a talk station now since they ditched the non-stop morning news and afternoon news so

Speaking of Kimmel and radio, CFRB's John Moore told his audience on Thursday morning that WKBW-TV in Buffalo is one of the stations no longer airing his show.
This is completely incorrect and I have no idea where he got that information. I watched his comeback show on Channel 7 Tuesday night and there was no censorship. The station is owned by Scripps, and is not affiliated with Nexstar (which controls WIVB and WNLO) and Sinclair (the owners of WUTV and WNYO.)
But since neither of the latter are ABC affils, the show aired as normal in that market and of course, on City TV here.
One area where they're not seeing Kimmel is Rochester, where ABC is on WHAM-TV. Channel 13 there is owned by Sinclair, which is part of the boycott.
That is also the same with WJET-TV Erie PA and WSYR-TV Syracuse because they are both owned by Nexstar Media.
| SOWNY » Toronto Has The Most HD Radio Signals In Canada » September 22, 2025 3:55 pm |
None of the radio stations in London ON has HD signals except 104.7 from Woodstock which counts as part of the London market that has HD1 and HD2. The problem is that the HD signal cuts out if you are in downtown or other parts of London etc. Hopefully in the future one of the London stations could get HD signals. My guesses are: 92.7, 93.5, 95.9, 97.5, 98.1, 102.3 and 103.1. Now I know K/W has only one HD station and that is CKKW Bounce 99.5. Even Windsor has no HD stations at the moment unless you tune in the Detroit FM stations that has many HD stations to choose from.

Bell doesn't spend a lot of money on CTV2 other than some local news. However, the second networks schedule often rivals the main network. Look at all of the NFL games that CTV 2 has and some of them are from streamers that only appear OTA on CTV 2. I have always thought of them as the overflow network for CTV. Their actual program schedules are way beyond and superior to anything that new PL, VR, RO or A channels ever had. It is just too bad that their channels, like all other local outlets have little connection to the local communities they serve. No local programming other than news.
Surprisingly when they do have the news on VR, its very Barrie oriented and still the region around. I'll give them that.
I watched CKVR’s newscast before and it is really good compaired to London’s newscasts. When CTV London does their newscasts the first is local news then after the weather segments it is usally a mix of national and international headlines, I flip it to CTV Kitchener after that. Although every Wednesday they have a sports segment called “The Tee Up” with Brent Lale who used to be the sports anchor before the sports segments were cut. At least they showcase their local sports talent in their communities.

And look what Bell did to their local news stations. They axed the local noon newscasts except for CTV Toronto and replaced it with a feed from the CTV News Channel. They shortend the 5PM newscasts and at 5:30 it is the National News even though CTV Toronto has a 5PM newscast now they no longer simulcast CP24’s Live at 5. They also axed the weekend newscasts at almost every CTV station except for CTV Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. I watch CHCH news on weekends for news since they axed it on CTV London and CTV Kitchener. Even though I found CTV Kitchener’s weekend newscasts more informative than London’s. But still they axed it.

They only care about their main CTV network and not CTV2 much. CTV2 usally airs reruns of shows and movies. Also I wonder how that CTV Your Morning brand to local stations such as Ottawa is gonna work. Too bad CTV Kitchener airs the national version instead of a local one like Ottawa does. I think it would be better to keep the national version of Your Morning on CTV News Channel. On the bright side for CTV2 Windsor airs the AM800 morning show on TV weekday mornings same for CBC Windsor they air Windsor Morning from the radio on TV, while CTV London airs repeats of the 11PM newscast. The only local morning show for Ontario I watch in the mornings is CHCH Morning Live which is excellent.
This is true. I live in Barrie not far from their CTV2 (CKVR) station - is deserted maybe one or two cars during the day in the parking lot. The station with so much history went to sh*t.
Staff working from home?
But they still got a news anchor, Control Room staff and a weather person still working there right? I think CFPL-TV’s lot is the same size as CKVR’s. But CFPL-TV’s studios and tower is located near Commissioners and Wharncliffe. I know CHST-FM used to be there until they moved to a new location near the Western Fair sometime in 2021. So you might see a few or more cars parked at the CFPL-TV studios then CKVR.
