Do The Producers At CTV Toronto News Talk To Each Other?

The question is pertinent after what I saw on Monday's 6 PM newscast.

It actually started at the tail end of the 5:30 National News, when they ran reporter Sean Lethong's kicker (the last feel good story of a newscast) about the Blue Jays winning the A.L. East crown. A perfectly fine way to go out.

Anchor Sandie Rinaldo said goodnight and CFTO instantly ran their own local news intro. The lead: the Blue Jays victory. They then threw to Lethong again for a live hit and he introed the same piece viewers had just seen less than 30 secs. earlier. So viewers saw the exact same story twice in two minutes.

But it didn't end there. At least those were two different shows. A few minutes later in the local 6, the anchors threw to a clip of Mayor Olivia Chow complaining about a lack of funding to house refugees. That was followed by a throw to reporter Beth Macdonell, who introduced her own report on the same subject.

And yep, sure enough, that exact same 30 sec. Chow clip viewers had just seen turned up in that story, as well.

Preparing for a newscast is a busy time. But there's no reason for the same material to be repeated within seconds of each other not once but twice. It does not help their credibility.

They need to talk to each other better to figure out how not to let this happen again.

Speaking of sloppy, NBC Nightly News also relayed incorrect facts in a copy story about singer Cat Stevens not being allowed into the U.S. for a tour because of visa issues. Anchor Hallie Jackson informed viewers that Stevens was best known for writing songs like "Another Saturday Night" and "Peace Train."

While he did compose the latter tune, the former was actually written by Sam Cooke, who had the first hit with it in 1963. Cat Stevens' version made it to #6 on Billboard in 1974.

Well, I didn't expect this. CTV's noon news was replaced with their national CTV News Channel feed. While Truth and Reconciliation Day is a federal holiday, which includes broadcasting, I didn't expect for them to give the crew the afternoon off.

Their regular 6 & 11 PM local shows will go on as scheduled.

Global Toronto skipped a noon newscast altogether and ran one of those renovations shows instead.

CP 24 aired local Toronto news at noon and DID NOT become a repeater of the national news feed.

CHCH TV over the air was down at noon and last I checked 2pm. Cable is fine.
Unrelated but Mohawk College CIOI 101.5 FM transmission has also been down at least 5 days now.

Did CTV Kitchener had to do this during last night’s 6PM show during the intro?
