As a fellow fan of the Cobbles I think CBC has done a pretty good job of keeping it about 2 weeks behind for the last 10 years or so.  Before that Corrie was preempted for hockey playoffs and the Olympics and any sort of World sporting event.  That meant Corrie could be anywhere from 3 to 6 months behind.  To catch up, they began showing hour long episodes 5 days a week.  Once they caught up with a 2 week delay they cut back the airing of episodes.  It's been ok ever since.  So hopefully CBC will find a way around it.  I do know that they also repeat the day's episode at 12:30 am.  And there's the omnibus on Sunday.  I PVR it so hopefully the magic machine will catch it whenever it's on.

I was listening to John Moore during Eclipse-lapalooza on 1010 today when he called in to Richard and Terry to report on his experience.  He sounded very odd, noticeable lisp and difficulty speaking - almost like he had just gotten out of dental surgery, or had too many neat scotches.  Any insights?

I agree about Amanda Galbraith.  Between the laughs, the hyper-speed talking and the melding of words I have found her to be unlistenable.

The other person who seems to find glee when reporting serious news is Victoria Matiash.  When she covers the newsbreaks she has the unmistakable sound of someone who has a smile permanently planted on her face.

I really liked him.  It was a weird direction to take considering the stable of guest hosts they could have used.  The tone seemed to suggest that he is being given the opportunity to be the new permanent host.  Otherwise, why would they put someone on from BC with Coach Turner sitting with him silently guiding and helping him through?

That list is very interesting.  I'm surprised there are so many Super Bowls but I'm also surprised that Michael Jackson's Halftime Show numbers were extricated from the overall numbers for that specific game.  Would the Super Bowl numbers not automatically include the Halftime Show?  And if not, are the ratings calculated as an average over the fluctuating numbers during the entire viewing period?  Sorry for the weird questions, but I find this fascinating.

It's on par with a far different historical moment - the moon landing in 1969, which garnered between 125-150 million viewers across three U.S. networks. It proves that broadcast TV can still attract eyeballs, if only the proper programming is there (not to mention weeks of hype about Taylor Swift, who was on screen during the game for only 54 seconds in total.)

But wouldn't the eyeballs from 1969 be a larger percentage of overall eyeballs during that time?  And in 1969, there was only one way to get eyeballs - television (barring movie theatres).  In 2024, as per the above posts, there are many, many different eyeball gatherers.

When I was a kid I saw Jesus Christ, Superstar.  I had a profound effect on me and still does.  I promised myself if I ever met Norm Jewison I would ask him about the final scene where a small figure appears at the bottom of the screen.  Was it an errant cameraman, was it symbolic of Christ rising, was it, was it, was it?  Later highdef versions allowed for an image of a Sheppard.  I was fortunate enough to meet Norm at a private birthday party.  Here was my chance!  I had been waiting over 45 years for this moment.  I was very nervous.  He was delightful.  He looked at me with those mischievous eyes and said "it is whatever you want it to be".  I felt like Ralphie when he learns secret of Little Orphan Annie's decoder pin. But all in all, in was great meeting and hanging out with him that evening.

I don't miss her but it was kind of fun listening to her after she changed her outlook, or when someone told her to change her outlook.  It was a complete 180.  But you could always tell when she was trying to stop her head from exploding.

Maybe she's involved in on-going contract negotiations.  For them to announce she would be back today and then have a no-show tells me something fell through over the weekend.  If I recall, Scott fell off the face of the earth around the same time of the year that she did and they started together. OR, she may be having health issues which I hope is not the case.  Not a fan but I certainly wouldn't wish her ill.  I suspect John Tory may find a permanent home on The Rush.

I think we're on Week 3 of Reshmi being missing. On Monday Deb Hutton was hosting and said she would be there for the remainder of the week.  John Tory just mentioned he would be doing a couple of afternoons next week.  I presume he'll be doing The Rush.

In the beginning of her disappearance it was announced that she was at home recovering from a bug of some sort.

This has all the earmarks of a Scott McArthur or a Jim Richards although the fill-in hosts are still saying they are sitting in for Reshmi.

I don't care about the ads per se but all day long on 1010 an ad will start, get cut off with another ad and then resume after the second ad has aired.  I thought this might be a bit of a glitch but it happens constantly.  For instance, 2 seconds of an ad gets interrupted by a CRAVE ad then back to the 1st ad.  Drives me a bit mental.

Not much of an apology given by Reshmi to Jim Richards on Thursday. At least she played the clip.  It was cringe worthy.  But she never did apologize.  She went on to talk about her 7-year old son asking her after he spent a few minutes outside in the cold, and I'm paraphrasing,  "Momma, will Olivia Chow allow people to build tiny homes for the homeless that John Tory cancelled?"  Yup, I sure was up on politics and local mayors when I was 7. Good grief.

When Rogers carried Leafs TV I switched providers. I presented the cable boxes to my hubby as a Christmas present.  He looked at me like I was crazy until I told him I was giving him all of his Leafs games. I became a hockey widow - LOL.  A friend said to me that not only did I pay for the whore, but I invited it to live with us.  But that's another story.  Now that we have relocated to NS where Rogers does not operate, other than cellphone service, hubby misses more than 30% of the games due to blackout.  We have Prime, so I wonder if this might be a viable solution?

I know this is a Southern Ontario forum but an odd thing happened on NS's 89.3 Rewind around 11:40 this morning.  The song playing at the time was Chilliwack's "Watcha Gonna Do When I'm Gone".  About halfway through the song the air went dead.  I was running errands so when I got back in the car the station was still silent.  However, the playlist on their website indicated that the next 2 songs were to have been "Another One Bites The Dust" and "The Best is Yet To Come".  More running errands and I was back in the car at about 12:15 pm.  New host and music had resumed.  I couldn't help but think that the morning DJ may have been fired and was giving the big kiss-off to his bosses during his last shift.  Or it could have just been a glitch with some very coincidental music choices. Any insight?

I've found frontline linesmen/workers from all the various companies (Bell, Rogers, Hydro, etc.) do go above and beyond.  It's the suits who eff everything up.
On another note, I just got a text from Rogers today offering me 150.00 credit.  Just have to click on the link to claim it!  HAHAHAHAHA

I have had two calls from "Rogers" over the past few days. The first was an offer of a 30% discount on my cell bill because I pay on time every month (I'm on automatic payment).  I told the woman that I couldn't understand her very well so if she could please email me the information, I would be happy to look at it.  When she asked me for my email address, I hung up.  The second call came in and the only word I understood was "Rogers".  I politely told him to eff off and hung up.  This isn't a Rogers thing.  It's a scam.

It reminds me of my many years working across the street from Much Music.  Every year when they were preparing for the awards, or even just a visiting celeb musician, a large gathering of 13-year old girls would raise their ear-piercing screams as only 13-year old girls can.  I worked on the 5th floor in a building where the windows did not open but, I swear, those screams could've broken glass.  It was torture.

Far be it for me to defend Reshmi Nair, but "efforting" is an old wire service term for attempting to get details on a breaking story. When I worked for both Newsradio in the late 70s and Broadcast News in the mid-80s, we would hear it and use it all the time.

It's one of those weasel words used in news, like "new top," which is an older copy story with an update on it at the beginning so editors would know that though the last part was a repeat, some fact or detail in the first paragraph was new.

Otherwise, a "new top" was what my girlfriend came home with after a shopping trip to the mall!

Thanks for the explanation.  I learned something new about this. BUT, Reshmi uses it incorrectly according to your info.  She applies it, for example, to the police, explaining that they are efforting to get more information on a case as opposed to her, as a news reporter, efforting to gather more intel for her story.

Anyway, not a big deal but it is most annoying.   Just as an aside, the word is highlighted as a mis-spell and suggestions are "affording" and "effecting".
