Back in the late '80's, while attending King's in Halifax, I had a PT job doing traffic reports for the morning and afternoon shows on CBC. The reports were local and, if you can believe it, we relied on a CB radio with input from traffic reporters driving around, as well as truckers and the interested public. I sat at my little desk in that historic building, gathering information, quickly typing it out and running my sheet into the studio.  The hosts of the afternoon show hated it because those shows were national and "no-one across the country cares about the damn Armdale Rotary at rush hour".  But it helped me with my KD and Bologna costs while earning my journalism degree.

If not for streaming, I would be sitting in my office in NS pining for the days where I would be sitting in the Gardner traffic going to and from work listening to my favourite radio station.

I watch Corrie and a few years back one of the bad-un characters was a hospital radio host/DJ.  It was interesting to see him at work.

My time  there was 1974-75. You likely remember the name Ray Arsonault , if you were around at that time. He replaced me when I moved to Ontario. I also was morning man on Chtn Charlottetown for a year after returning to the Island in 1977-78.

I would have been 10 during your time, just before music started to mean something to me.  The memories are there but just a little foggy.  LOL

The article makes much more Murphy-esque sense.  Ryan Murphy always has some twist. I might continue to watch with this in mind.

I watched the first episode just because of the Ryan Murphy connection.  I thought there HAD to be something nefarious going on but nope, just a bunch of drivel.

I love all the _________ That Built America.  Especially when they cross over.  On The Food That Built America you will often see the same actors crossing over between Candy, Fast Food, Breakfast Cereals, etc.  The innovations that went into everything that built America is fascinating.  My Journalism Professor, Stephen Kimber, just published a book called The Phelan Feud (The bitter struggle for control of a great Canadian food empire) promises to be a good read based on my fandom for these TV shows.

Canadian production companies that are signatory to the WGC Agreement would be without writers, American Studios are signatory to the WGA so, if there was to be a strike, it would be Canadian content that would suffer.

As a fellow fan of the Cobbles I think CBC has done a pretty good job of keeping it about 2 weeks behind for the last 10 years or so.  Before that Corrie was preempted for hockey playoffs and the Olympics and any sort of World sporting event.  That meant Corrie could be anywhere from 3 to 6 months behind.  To catch up, they began showing hour long episodes 5 days a week.  Once they caught up with a 2 week delay they cut back the airing of episodes.  It's been ok ever since.  So hopefully CBC will find a way around it.  I do know that they also repeat the day's episode at 12:30 am.  And there's the omnibus on Sunday.  I PVR it so hopefully the magic machine will catch it whenever it's on.

I was listening to John Moore during Eclipse-lapalooza on 1010 today when he called in to Richard and Terry to report on his experience.  He sounded very odd, noticeable lisp and difficulty speaking - almost like he had just gotten out of dental surgery, or had too many neat scotches.  Any insights?

I agree about Amanda Galbraith.  Between the laughs, the hyper-speed talking and the melding of words I have found her to be unlistenable.

The other person who seems to find glee when reporting serious news is Victoria Matiash.  When she covers the newsbreaks she has the unmistakable sound of someone who has a smile permanently planted on her face.

I really liked him.  It was a weird direction to take considering the stable of guest hosts they could have used.  The tone seemed to suggest that he is being given the opportunity to be the new permanent host.  Otherwise, why would they put someone on from BC with Coach Turner sitting with him silently guiding and helping him through?

That list is very interesting.  I'm surprised there are so many Super Bowls but I'm also surprised that Michael Jackson's Halftime Show numbers were extricated from the overall numbers for that specific game.  Would the Super Bowl numbers not automatically include the Halftime Show?  And if not, are the ratings calculated as an average over the fluctuating numbers during the entire viewing period?  Sorry for the weird questions, but I find this fascinating.

It's on par with a far different historical moment - the moon landing in 1969, which garnered between 125-150 million viewers across three U.S. networks. It proves that broadcast TV can still attract eyeballs, if only the proper programming is there (not to mention weeks of hype about Taylor Swift, who was on screen during the game for only 54 seconds in total.)

But wouldn't the eyeballs from 1969 be a larger percentage of overall eyeballs during that time?  And in 1969, there was only one way to get eyeballs - television (barring movie theatres).  In 2024, as per the above posts, there are many, many different eyeball gatherers.

When I was a kid I saw Jesus Christ, Superstar.  I had a profound effect on me and still does.  I promised myself if I ever met Norm Jewison I would ask him about the final scene where a small figure appears at the bottom of the screen.  Was it an errant cameraman, was it symbolic of Christ rising, was it, was it, was it?  Later highdef versions allowed for an image of a Sheppard.  I was fortunate enough to meet Norm at a private birthday party.  Here was my chance!  I had been waiting over 45 years for this moment.  I was very nervous.  He was delightful.  He looked at me with those mischievous eyes and said "it is whatever you want it to be".  I felt like Ralphie when he learns secret of Little Orphan Annie's decoder pin. But all in all, in was great meeting and hanging out with him that evening.

I don't miss her but it was kind of fun listening to her after she changed her outlook, or when someone told her to change her outlook.  It was a complete 180.  But you could always tell when she was trying to stop her head from exploding.

Maybe she's involved in on-going contract negotiations.  For them to announce she would be back today and then have a no-show tells me something fell through over the weekend.  If I recall, Scott fell off the face of the earth around the same time of the year that she did and they started together. OR, she may be having health issues which I hope is not the case.  Not a fan but I certainly wouldn't wish her ill.  I suspect John Tory may find a permanent home on The Rush.
