SOWNY » Fake sports sound » March 28, 2024 11:08 pm

Is it just me, or is every NHL game I watch these days carrying fake crowd noise.

I know this all started in the Covid era when games were playing in empty arenas but recently this has become more than prevalent.

I can hear the "natural" sound during quieter moments but when things get exciting the canned stuff gets added.

What's the point? Do they think we can't hear the difference???

Sheesh!!!

Might be just a rumour ...

From jonah @yyzsportsmedia:

Multiple sources tell me that tomorrow* could be a very rough day at Bell Media. Word is multiple radio stations could be sold and or shuttered completely. I've heard as many as 50 could be effected. Word is staff meetings, shareholder and press releases to come in the am.

SOWNY » Bad Boy Furniture Officially Bankrupt » January 27, 2024 5:19 pm

Ironically, Bad Boy was recently featured on Terry O'Reilly's Under The Influence show.

Interesting stuff about Mel Lastman and the history of the store starts at about the 6:45 mark here:

Ahhh ... so that would mean maintaining strategic market position while creating dynamic impact. It's all so clear to me now ...

From Broadcast Dialogue...

“An award-winning strategic and creative marketing leader with almost 20 years of experience delivering impactful results in the media industry, Jackie has helped chart Corus’ brand identities and increased their impact, while contributing to key programming, formatting decisions, and marketing and promotions across the company’s 39 radio stations and podcasting,” the company said in a statement. “A strong, empathetic leader who motivates her team for success, she is passionate about connecting talent with brands and audiences.”

Can somebody translate this for me into English - as in, what does she actually do based on her alleged experience?

I suspect that the photo is real and captures some sort of publicity stunt. Paging Mr. Marshall ...

Great documentary, and it covers a lot of ground beyond the Comiskey Park "moment."

As always, PBS does a superb job of putting it all in context - and some of the ramifications (musically, socially and politically) are still being felt today. Miss this doc at your peril!

Remember back in the 1970s when Radio Shack sold an adaptor so you could listen to FM on your AM radio? Methinks it's possible to do the same in reverse.

Way back in the old days, if you owned reel-to-reel tape, it was recommended that you store your tapes in a "played" position.

Another reason why magnetic tape (including VHS & Beta) should be stored in a "played" position is that the tape will be evenly and tightly wound.

Tapes stored in a "rewound" position are more prone to damage due to uneven tension as a lot of air is introduced into the tape pack.

In other words, be kind and don't rewind.

And someday there will be a generation who will have no idea what this is all about.

Sorry. Must have gotten confused with what makes up an hour of Corus radio programming.

Hey kids,

Just want to put in a plug for "The Story Of Late Night" - the version you never saw.

A lot of folks complained earlier and elsewhere on the net about CNN's presentation of the series - interrupted by commercial breaks that reduced program content to about 35 minutes per hour-long broadcast slot.

Luckily, CBC Gem has a more complete version of the series - adding about ten minutes more per episode, elevating the entire documentary from very good to great.

In addition, the final episode has about 15 additional minutes that includes the January 6, 2021 incidents in Washington D.C. plus the impact of Covid-19 on the late night scene.

Enjoy!
