2. CTV Kitchener had a normal newscast but the question is where is Will Aiello? He has been off for quite sometime.
Based on this thread, looks like Will is due to return in the new year. One of the posters, "vidman", looks to be a staffer there:
"He took some time off and will be back. He's still part of the team. We have to manage vacation requests for the holiday season, so you'll see on-air personalities in rolls they don't regularly do until the new year."

I happened to hear this live. Heather Seaman, in for usual anchor Stuart McGinn, began her 6 am newscast sounding like she was about 3 feet away from a mic, echo'ing and far away in a room - distractingly distant. (It sounded like, say, a Zoom call when someone has a great-sounding USB mic or headset mic but the wrong input is selected and the laptop's terrible built-in mic was used. And that may have been exact the case especially if Seaman was broadcasting from home.)
Moore's board op (I believe usual board op Nick Maiorano was out on vacation) made the wise call to then drop out of that newscast after less than a minute due to the audio problems, and Moore began his show a few minutes early, joking he didn't have the extra few minutes of prep time (but admitted they'd been prepping for hours, as is usual - I think they have the 5 am morning meeting - by that point).
(Not sure on this, but I believe Moore may have then thrown to traffic himself but it was just the sounder and no traffic segment.) But they then cut back to Moore to riff and re-introducing Seaman whose mic quality was normal. But when Seaman threw to traffic, that traffic segment didn't happen either so it was back to Moore and that's where you heard (and the show audio) had the "train wreck" comment. Things improved from there.

The answer, at least this weekend, is Davelle Morrison, a real estate agent and regular guest who comes on every Saturday and Sunday and talks about buying and selling houses.
She's not terrible, but she admits she has no radio experience and it just shows how thin the bullpen is now that the place is almost empty after all the cuts.
I caught both days of her fill-in as well. As you say, not terrible, and she sounded more comfortable on the Sunday, but a producer (board op?) Jody had to pipe in with the station ID and other cues here or there. Also some confusion about the "640" branding. Good enunciation and a pleasant voice, however.
Pics from her social media.

It's just a parody cover and not real. "Fuxleyland" is a fictional label, if you search that you'll see some other comedic artist rendering covers like this one.

Surprised but pleased to hear what I have to assume will be the last Ben Mulroney-hosted "Toronto This Weekend" live on Sunday morning. With his assuming Kelly Cutrara's spot five days a week beginning Monday, there's no way he can continue doing 7 days in a row..
I'll be very curious to see what replaces him next weekend. I hope it's not several hours of rerolls.
I notice this morning, Ben did use a tagline along the lines of "You're listening to 640 - live on weekend mornings, as always". Smart play by Bendixen against the 1010 TV simulcasts, but I agree we'll have to see next week and beyond if they'll throw another weekend host in that slot or slice up some of the week's preceding segments, maybe from Ben's own show!
Interesting that they still haven't updated their schedule page - which features both Cutrara and Dani Stover, both of whom were purged last week.
The "Contact" page too:
Incidentally, occasionally hosts have said "My producer, Dani" and I assumed it was Dani Stover doing multiple duty as part of her role - but based on that contact page it's Dani Von. Different Dani.
SOWNY » DaveTrafford Returns To 1010 » November 23, 2024 2:16 pm |
Looks like it's just an airing of an episode of his podcast of a few years, "On The Ledge". Not sure what prompted this unless they didn't want to go up against that AM640 fundraiser (which is at least live) with rerolls. Trafford previously said he was banished from his "roundtable" duties as apparently management (at some level) felt his podcast enterprises/production firm might be seen as competition to Bell's/iHeart's.
Anyway, 1010's formal schedule had re-rolls of Deb Hutton's show in that slot (and Jerry Agar rerolls after that - and Vassy Kapelos after that) so I suppose at least we're getting something not recycled from the preceding week.

I enjoyed this as well. As you say, Mike immediately addressed the "elephant in the room" by asking "What happened at 640?" near the top to get that out of the way or not attempt to gloss it over, and it was an interesting discussion. Cupido also appeared on Ted Woloshyn's podcast and is doing the rounds to promote her new book.

I might think for consumer-grade service to the home there wouldn't be any legal resource to claim work loss of productivity/wages, etc. as it would be "residential" service. But if one leased a business-class service to the home (business package, guaranteed static IP, etc. - and perhaps associated webhosting not on your equipment, but as part of the package), that may be different.
SOWNY » Ex-NBC Anchorman Brian Williams Tries To Resurrect His Career » October 31, 2024 6:32 pm |
Deadline today had a bit on Brian Williams:
Brian Williams’ Amazon Election Night Special Signals Streaming’s Emergence For Live News Moments: “It Might Be The Next Big Thing”
And The Ankler talked a salary angle:
TV News' 'Perfect Storm': Brian Williams' Humble Amazon $; Star Exits; Power Struggles as Election Stress Mounts
"On-air guests from news outlets including Axios and Politico will appear alongside Williams, who is fronting the endeavor for a mere low six-figure sum, The Ankler has learned. (In the heyday of his NBC News anchor days, it was reported he pulled down $10 million a year).
This is how weird things have become in the news business as this wild election cycle comes to a head. In an increasingly fractured media environment, the 65-year-old Williams has emerged as a fresh — even hot? — commodity with his return to a TV news arena that has forged no notable breakouts this cycle despite wall-to-wall coverage of the Trump and Harris campaigns since Joe Biden’s calamitous debate performance on June 27."

Yes. That's sprinkled throughout the first episode. The second episode even makes some meta references to the old series jumping networks and the number of seasons there were (and years it ran) as something the Bates character should know. Also, the original show's theme music is heard in the first episode on someone's phone.
Bates did "Harry's Law" for David E. Kelley over a decade ago where she played an attorney and I thought that a fun outing.

That's right, and I had forgotten about that. Bullard's Wikipedia entry has the dates (excerpt below). I believe he was joined by Judy Croon for that as well? I remember the banter between the two of them.
In August 2009, Bullard became the host of The Mike Bullard Show on Talk820 (CHAM) in Hamilton, Ontario, however his evening show was cancelled when CHAM switched to a country music format in July 2010.
From 2010 to 2016, Bullard hosted Beyond the Mic with Mike Bullard weekdays at noon on Newstalk 1010 in Toronto.
He returned to broadcasting in October 2018 on Sauga 960 AM in Mississauga as host with Lawrence Morganstern of the afternoon drive time show, The Getaway. The show ceased production in late January 2019.

I enjoyed his 1010 noonhour show, if only for the button-pushing and shaking up a few fairly standard surrounding hours. Condolences to his family and those closest to him.
The Michael Moriarty appearance on his talk show is legendary and Wendy Crewson's parody at the end is just the icing on the cake.

Alternatively, just ask your dealership. I'm sure they get people wondering about the same types of things and can advise. If you don't want to make a special trip in or phone call/E-mail, ask when you next bring it in for routine service.

From a cover story of "RPM Music Weekly" from 1967:
"It took a great deal of planning and deciding to bring about the drastic change in the policy of CKFH, and one that shook the listening foundations of habit listening Toronto. Rock and roll on CKFH? IMPOSSIBLE. As a matter of fact, the new CKFH regarded the term rock and roll as being their policy, but they were now hip to the MOT, that's Music Of Today, and it just so happens that with a population breakdown showing almost 50% of radio listeners being under 30 years of age, they were moving in the direction of capturing a good portion of this audience."

Why would anyone want to watch 90 minutes of news?
I don't believe the intention is someone watching it front-to-back through the total timeslot in one sitting. It's probably a lengthy block to allow people to come in and out as they come home partway through, or flip it on before dinner, flip it on during/after dinner, channel surf through it, etc. Grabbing any audience share they can by having people tune in whenever they want during that slot if only for half an hour or even 15 minutes. No different than maybe a morning or afternoon drivetime radio show where people aren't listening to the whole thing but only bits as it suits them.

Those are awful. It's been pointed out here before that at least he's supporting local radio, and that's indeed something - but the trade-off with that is putting a non-broadcast professional on the airwaves to ramble on for what feels like an hour at a time. (Not sure how long it is in actuality? 2 minutes? 3 minutes?) Talking about his gym club workouts. Talking about his last physicals. Talking about the galas he's attended. Zero of that interests me.
Worse is when he opts to break into song and the man simply can't carry a tune - painful.
And even worse, over the last few weeks poor Tom has seemed to have developed quite the stutter beginning his segments. There's always a "G-g-g-good morning, John" for the 1010 throws. Whether nerves or being on the line too long with anticipation, I don't think he has the self-awareness to listen to his spots or have a speech therapist coach him on some enunciation or nerve-calming habits. Just terrible.
I actually think I'd take those repetitive, produced commercials all day in 30-second bites than the rambling Tom, but it's definitely a tough call.
