He's long been a favourite of some on the board, thanks to the way he deflates the talent with a pithy comment during his all too-infrequent appearances on NT1010.
On Thursday, Robert Turner was on the first Roundtable, where it was revealed it was his 27th anniversary at the station. He started as an intern while still in high school, and he showed management at the time how valuable he could be. The operator who worked the all night show failed to turn up one morning and Turner was told to take his place.
He's done many other assignments since then, but that's how it started and he's now the Program Director, which is no small thing.
Pretty amazing in this day of constant cutbacks that he's stayed at the same station for almost three decades, through different owners, and started his radio career in the major market in Canada.
Good for him. I just wish he was on air more often.

Indeed! I would also like to hear him more often.

Didn’t Turner used to do an hour on-air before Moore came on? Pretty sure when I worked an early shift that Turner was on really early, like 4 - 4:30am but I could be wrong as that was a while back.

Dave Quinn was another 1010er who had many pithy comments. They were mostly sports related.

Yes, Turner took over "The Early Edition" from Iain Grant. It ran 5:00-5:30 am when John Moore's show began at 5:30 am. Newscaster Dave Agar would eventually join Turner to riff on stories of the day. I think the station's live programming only ever began at 5:00 am; rerolls until then.
The old lineup here suggests it ran one hour long from 5:00-6:00 am in the Bill Carroll era when Bill's show began at 6:00 am.

Thanks AspectRatio, appreciate your detailed response, I was after the Iain Grant era and only know Bill Carroll from the Frank Leo adnauseam ads!
