Sweet Sass was in the video, but that's not her voice on the song Closer Together. That voice on Closer Together actually belongs to Martine St. Clair.
 

Bill Atanasoff has passed away. Bill Atanasoff was a former City-TV cameraman who was struck by a driver on November 9, 2010, while on assignment. Bill suffered severe head trauma, a broken neck, broken pelvis and two broken legs, but despite living the rest of his life as a blind quadriplegic, his story was not a sad one, but an inspiring one.

On September 29, 2025, Peter Gross visited me for a lengthy chat about Bill. Peter arrived with several pieces of audio, featuring Jim McKenny, Lorne Honickman, John Whaley, Al McCormick, Bill's sister, and Bill's caregiver. He also recorded a conversation with Bill himself, about the accident, about his life in the years that followed, and about his incredibly inspiring attitude.

Seems that anyone the least bit educated or passionate about the medium (then again, we ARE talking Bell exec decisions, here!) would realize the historical value of anything and not toss them, though that was common in decades past for movie studio elements too. Is it possible they already had an earlier standard def digitization process that had been completed on them, or these tapes were merely secondary "safety" copies or dubs/dupes housed off-site for the recommended archival process of not everything being in one physical location (fire, flood, etc.)?

If you caught the 299 Queen Street West doc, as I did, you'd see that the older MuchMusic footage was actually courtesy of Retrontario and not Bell Media. That's because Bell doesn't have the good stuff from the 80s.

I had Supriya Dwivedi over to talk about why she left AM640, then Reshmi Nair over to talk about why she left Newstalk 1010, so yesterday I thought they should meet and we should talk about all of it. This was a wild 100 minutes with Reshmi and Supriya not holding back. Reshmi goes off on Mike Stafford's use of a racial slur, Supriya goes off on John Oakley's far-too-late defense of her former colleague, and I receive the biggest laugh in the history of Toronto Mike'd when I ask them if AM radio is a safe space for women of colour.
