Reshmi Nair and Supriya Dwivedi Compare Toronto AM Radio Experiences

I had Supriya Dwivedi over to talk about why she left AM640, then Reshmi Nair over to talk about why she left Newstalk 1010, so yesterday I thought they should meet and we should talk about all of it. This was a wild 100 minutes with Reshmi and Supriya not holding back. Reshmi goes off on Mike Stafford's use of a racial slur, Supriya goes off on John Oakley's far-too-late defense of her former colleague, and I receive the biggest laugh in the history of Toronto Mike'd when I ask them if AM radio is a safe space for women of colour.

Two of the worst radio hosts I ever heard, regardless of gender, race, discrimination, misogyny, blah-blah-blah.  They were just bad at their job.

As the token leftists on conservative talk stations their job was to be hated by the audience.

Reshmi did not show up to her job half the time.
Not a good work ethic, always complaining and making excuses.
She's part of these woak snowflakes and karins that are in areas like lesleyville.

Re: Reshmi Nair and Supriya Dwivedi Compare Toronto AM Radio Experiences

There's alot of women with ethnic backgrownds who are not woak snowflakes and show up to work.
Why 1010 even wanted to hire reshmi surprised me.
Hope she did not lie in her interview with 1010 or 1010 did not get tricked.

Bold assertion. I guess you've never listened to Jim Richards.

We actually couldn't name another woman of colour with a regular shift on 1010 or 640 since Reshmi and Surpriya left.

And you talk like this woman was hired at 1010 straight out of college. She had worked for other Bell Media properties, including CTV, CP24 and Quibi before moving to The Rush. Reshmi is a savvy vet.

But kudos to you for the funniest sentence I've ever read on this board:

I'm not sure about that assumption - at least, I don't remember it that way. Her co-host did go on medical leave, but after flying solo, I believe Nair had already departed Bell when they began the "in for Reshmi Nair" phrasing for all the subsequent hosts, website wasn't updated, etc.   That went on for some months and much speculation on what was happening (mostly at this board). I assumed they had to finish out a contract term, she had accumulated vacation/leave, or there were offboarding negotiations happening so they couldn't develop a new show and open up that spot to a permanent host while all that was transpiring. She did imply on a prior Toronto Mike'd visit that it was her choice to move on.

Unfortunately, I have, over many years until I stopped a while back because I couldn't take it.  I just assume he must have incriminating photos of Bell executives in the company of minors, or barnyard animals.

No no that's Vassy Kapelos. She's the one that always has better things to do than her CFRB job.

Back to the podcast - I found the Oakley excerpt interesting. Was he implying (in his typical pusillanimous manner) that the 'woke' forces within the station leaked the story of Stafford's quips to the outside world?
EDIT - just reached that point in the interview. Please disregard.

"Carol MacNeiled" That's amusing. I thought that would've referred to an off-air nic fit rage.

Yes. I don't have a time stamp for you, but it's during this conversation from October 2025.

Thank you! They'll be back. But first, Supriya will return with Stafford.

I didn't enjoy either one professionally, but I thought it was a great interview, Mike.

Yeah, you definitely have a talent for making people comfortable enough to truly open up.

Re: Reshmi Nair and Supriya Dwivedi Compare Toronto AM Radio Experiences

Reshmi Nair was fine as newsreader. Dwivedi was good as a commentator which she has gone back to. Both were out of their element hosting a talk radio show. It's not as easy as it sounds, apparently.

I like that vasi's a centrist.
That balences out her lack of comitment.
Don't forget, unlike reshmi at the time, vasi still works for CTV news channel and the iheart talk radio network.
Reshmi had no excuses because she was only on 1010 and not on both cp24 and 1010.
And she did not have to report from ottawa.

Supria is OK (though I find her delivery somewhat annoying).  But I'm certainly reminded why I couldn't stand listening to Reshmi on 1010.

She spends a good chunk of the podcast lecturing about fairness, context, and how words cause harm. But the moment someone doesn’t fit her worldview, those standards vanish. The tone turns abrasive fast, and everything becomes moral certainty.

The clearest example is how she talks about Mike Stafford. She casually claims he “gets away with it” and paints him as racist almost immediately. That’s simply not true. He lost his job, his 25-year career, his income, and his professional identity, with no severance. That’s acknowledged in the conversation, yet she keeps repeating the claim anyway.

That’s the pattern throughout. When it’s about her, intent matters. Context matters. Proportionality matters. When it’s about someone she disagrees with, none of that applies. Accusations come easily, consequences barely register.

You don’t have to like Stafford’s jokes to see the problem here. What’s troubling is how casually she throws around labels that destroy people’s lives, while insisting everyone else be endlessly careful with language when it affects her - talk about double standards!

"Lesleyville Karen" is an apt description!
