Can you elaborate on this weird anomaly? What do you mean?

The Male 18-34 sample is small and very unreliable. The 640 morning show has been frequently #1 in it. Common sense says that's extremely unlikely and is probably driven by a number of meters you could count on one hand (or finger)

Is AM 740 a 0.0 now? Or was it also accidentally left out?

Yikes.  Some rough results there for some.   Indie should be pleased.

1010 and CHUM may need a leadership change.

740, 90.3, and 106.5 were 0.0

Re: Fall 24 Numeris

How the mighty have fallen.  CFRB 1.1 only proves corporations such as Bell should not be approved to own a radio station.  They are just a bottom line organization and have no idea how to successfully operate in broadcasting.  Doesn't look good on the CRTC.  CFRB 1010 a sad case today.

At least CFRB can boast once again about being #1 (or number 1.1).

To bad it wasn't 1.0. Then they could be 1.010.

Re: Fall 24 Numeris

Does that mean 640's Greg Brady gets more than twice the listeners that 1010 star John Moore does?  Ouch.  There's no Jiffy App for that.

Not exactly but close. Brady gets about 63% higher than Moore in the demo. However, Moore leads in total listeners (59% higher than Brady).

Huh?
Rogers has the first, fifth and seventh place stations in their home market, Bell the third and sixth and even near-bankrupt Corus has fourth and 12th.
Except for Boom, government, non-profit and smaller company stations are not exactly hitting it out of the park in this book in this limited demo.
Being on non-stereo AM in talk/news/sports format is going to limit the audience for CFRB and the others regardless of who the owner is and each station is limited to spending what their revenues allow, regardless of owner.

You know part of my life is in New Jersey / NYC area.  I remember when WRKS 98.7 (R&B powerhouse) was bought up by ESPN for sports..how big a deal that was.  They don't (subscribe to?) ratings but WFAN 101.9 NYC gets a million listeners.

TSN needs to be on FM in Toronto.  perhaps 106.5 would sell?

One meter should not carry that much weight, but it does. Numeris sends out less than a thousand to a market with a population of 5-million. I recall a story about a station (in the same group at which I worked) losing one full share point from book-to-book so they investigated with Numeris.  This panel member had found a job, which meant they couldn't stay at home with the radio on all day, as they had been doing.

The system is broken and everybody knows it. For the good of the industry it would be nice to see the "Big Four" take Numeris to task - but when three of those "Big Four" are always on the podium ratings-wise, would you expect them to rock the boat? Especially when said boat is already taking on water?

Re: Fall 24 Numeris

What an outdated way of measuring market conditions.

An online survey with a simple questionnaire for your top four stations would gather a Lot more data.

Send the survey across standard social media and then publish the results.

Re: Fall 24 Numeris

The Numeris ratings for the GTA are statistically flawed because there are too many stations with tiny shares in a very large universe.  Several years ago, I had a meeting at Numeris with a small struggling GTA broadcaster.  I asked what the PPM sample size was, and they said 600.
In round numbers, the GTA universe is 5,000,000 population.  If we want 95% confidence in our survey results, and a margin of error of 1% (they claim they are measuring shares like 0.3), you need a sample size of 9585.  You can play with a calculator here, using your own assumptions:
https://www.qualtrics.com/blog/calculating-sample-size/
Conversely, a sample size of 601 gives you a margin of error of 4%, so at least half the stations surveyed have meaningless statistics.
The challenge is the Numeris is controlled by the biggies (on the top half of the list), so why would they vote for change (and extra expense)?  As the Brits would say f*** you, I'm all right Jack.

In order for that to work, it has to be adjusted to include 35-40% Can Con.
It will sound slightly different, but I suppose it can be done.
I kinda like the idea of restoring Dancin' Oldies though, myself...

What would being on stereo AM change for anyone in the year 2024?

Re: Fall 24 Numeris

I've created a basic survey for anyone who wants to do it (one page, multiple choice) and if enough people do it, then after a month, I'll post the results.

In his regular column on the latest numbers, consultant David Bray also expresses skepticism about the results. Includes other markets, beyond Toronto

See it here.

Hardly average listeners here... on this board CFRB and 640 are likely to be at the top, so the results will be meaningless.
