While most who visit here are well aware of what a VPN is for, there are some who have no idea. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and essentially fools other sites into thinking you're in a different country. 

That's a big deal if you want to watch something on, say CBS.com, whose videos are geoblocked in Canada over rights issues. Using a VPN set to the U.S. eliminates the problem and you can watch or (in the case of some radio stations) listen to whatever you want.  

But a VPN is generally subscription based and many simply don't want to pay for something they may not really need. And that's where Proton VPN comes in. It has a pay version, but it also provides what I'm told is an excellent - and just as importantly limitless and fast - free network which will never cost you a dime. 

The catch? While most VPNs allow you to set for almost any country on earth, the freebie only gives you access to three places - The Netherlands, Japan and - here's the key - the United States. Which means you can download it gratis, set it to the States and watch whatever you want from there.

A caveat: I have a paid VPN (Nord) which is great. So I really don't know the Proton product. But many reviews, including this one, say it's the best freebie out there and works great.
