Former morning guy and controversial figure, Dean Blundell, has announced he is giving up on his podcast and channel.
The key reason is that he has lost a bit of the passion. Podcasting has become increasingly hard to monetize and this factored into the decision to reasses things.
I could not agree more.
In the article in Broadcast Dialogue last week, Blundell adds, that political moves have also had an impact. "Canada especially, with the effect of [Bill] C-11 and C-18 [the Online News Act]. We’re pausing to reassess.”
I feel podcasting is a long lonely road.
Some issues are:
1. The time it takes to build an audience
2. You have to make time to listen, unlike radio, where you can turn it on an there it is
3. Loyalty is a challenge
4. Your competing with millions of podcasts
5. It is a cluttered world
6. Show me the money

More time for Dean to call everyone who disagrees with him a Russian asset personally paid by Putin.

I guess there's no money in trying to be a liberal version of Rebel News? Monetizing podcasts may be difficult but it doesn't help if your product is crap, as Blundell's was.
