I can't entirely answer your question but I once worked for a time with John (J.D.) Roberts, when he was doing radio/TV in Toronto.
He certainly did not strike me as the Fox News type. In fact, his first stateside gig was with the CBS affiliate in Miami.
What changed?
(And don't get me started on Michael Coren...)
He's about as above reproach as 'The Reverend' Al Sharpton. Wherever there's a buck to be made.

I've often wondered if some of the more strident talk radio hosts actually believe much of what they say. Adler's defence that he was just reflecting the views of his audience says a lot.

It's a small detail, but John Roberts had let his hair grow grey over the years -- almost white actually.
I noticed recently he's now dying it back to brown with a bit of grey on the sides.
By and large, though so many people in the TV news business, especially, are more entertainers than actual journalists.
It's all as the Caribbeans say, "mas" to them.
The same is true to radio talk show hosts, many of whom are not journalists anyway.
Nothing wrong with being an entertainer, just don't pretend to be actual journalists.
I'm looking at you Jerry Agar, Bill Carrol and the like.
Adler might have started out as a journalist, but he's been a right wing pundit and entertainer for many more years since.

How about Amy Goodman (CIUT 89.5 M-F 10am) Is she entertaining us as well? Or is that, to your mind, the real thing. Honest to goodness journalism.

She got her face smashed by cops while reporting the '08 RNC Convention. JD Roberts is under strict instruction from his makeup professional not to turn his head too fast for fear of disturbing the grey powder in his hair. Make of that what you will.
